  1. Maybe. I tend to play wedges very well and hit that shot like a put. I think it is how my eyes perceive the angle of the face. I know it works well for many people it just hasn't been consistent for me. I am hoping that having the club more upright when soled will help. Thanks
  2. I have played toe down shots like that. I found that I often lost the angle of the face to the left doing that.
  3. I am thinking about bending my lob wedge 2 extra degrees upright. I tried using a chipper when I had an extra club to burn. I liked it for shots just off the green. When I put a 5 fairway in my bag I took it out. I rarely use a lob wedge beyond 50 yards. I really liked the upright nature of the chipper around the green 10 yards and in it helps the use of a putting stroke. What I want to know is has anyone tried this? What are peoples thoughts about issues I may not be anticipating. I will do it with a High toe wedge.
  4. I also picked up 4-7 yards per club with the Chrome Tour over last years Pro V1x I played.
  5. I tested balls all of my rounds in March. I used the Pro v1 & X & Left Dash, TP 5 & X, Z Star, Tour Response, Chrome Soft, Chrome Tour & +. About Me as a golfer. I am 68 I hit the ball straight but can fade and draw the ball. I can spin back L wedge to 9 iron back and prefer a hop and stop shot. I play a new lob wedge each year and sand wedge every other year. My irons are refinished KZG forged III with traditional lofts. My lofts are 4 degrees between each club. I drive it about 240 and can hit an intentional pull about 260. My drives are straight, my miss is off the toe. Wedges and Iron play are the strength of my game. I played all of these balls at least 3 rounds. What I was looking for was feel and spin from 90 yards to the green. I only wanted a ball that I could predict what it would do after the bounce, did it stop or release or spin back. Chrome tour X and Pro v1 x spun back more than I like to see. Z Star released more than I liked and so did the Left dash and Tour Response. Tp 5 x and Left dash felt to firm on the green side shots for me. Irons and full swing wedges: I liked the Tour Response and the Chrome Tour and the Pro v1x best. They consistently responded as I like stopping on the green very quickly. Long clubs and driver: Chrome Tour and Tour Response were the straightest off the tee and with hybrids and fairways. My dispersion with the Pro V1x was just bigger with the long clubs. I played the Chrome Tour for 5 more rounds to be sure. I tracked every shot and figured out all my yardages with each club. I bought two four dozen boxes for the price of 3 dozen at Dick's sporting goods. I am playing the Chrome Tour with triple track and I love them.
  6. I really love the Accra iS 7 shafts in my irons. They time up very well for me and the feel is incredible.
  7. Well this makes lots of sense. I know that I can make most truly straight putts. How many of those do I see in a round? Only the ones where I miss the break low and have straight back up the slope. So much of putting is matching line and speed. I like die in or capture speed for my putts because I know if I leave my putts inside 3 feet I will make most second putts. Living in the Greater Washington DC area the courses here tend to have very nice greens with challenging breaks and speeds or I won't play them. We have so many great options. Practicing with the same putter and routine is the biggest help for me now. That said I have a custom build putter made just for me too.
  8. Next time I donate I will pay attention to the confirmation number. I never did in the past and don't know how I would find it now. Thanks.
  9. I have donated a few times over the years and never have had the banner. I am not complaining and you said to tell you.
  10. KZG irons are some of the greatest forged irons out there. I still play mine that I bought in the ninetys. I had them reshafted and refurbished and they are back in my bag again. I tried to get a new set but they are nearly impossible to get in the US.
  11. I have worked in and out of the golf industry for years. I have been a starter, marshal, club fitter, food and beverage manager and General manager. I agree when you work full time in the golf industry you don't find much time to play. I have found a job working one day a week as the counter person and over seeing the food and beverage operations for the pub not the events. I am allowed to play whenever I want on weekdays and after 12 on weekends unless I fit in as a walk on without a set time. The industry is work like any other job field and is fun if you work in a good team and environment. Working for an owner that is barely making ends meet is hard. Working in an operation that has money and an open mind is great. I have worked in the military and restaurant business as an owner for many years. The leader sets the pace in all businesses.
  12. To be clear I have a custom putter fitted and made for me. I have had it for over 20 years. It is never leaving my bag! I paid $150 for it. I would pay up to about $1,000 to get a putter built just to fit me. To answer the question. I have tried to replace it over the years with something that people would admire. My arrogance got in the way of my play. I won a Scotty Circle T, for a closest to the hole in a big money charity outing. It was not set up for my game and didn't work as well as my custom! Sold it for over $2500 I went through a putting slump and bought a Bettinardi SS9 Hexperimental from a friend for $500 and sold it for just over $1000. When the Evnroll ER2 won the best putter from MGS I got one. All of those putters felt amazing and looked great, everyone admired them! None of them were as good for me and my putting, as the custom putter made for me. The best thing I did was realize that the putter that was made to the weight, lie, loft, length, balance and grip I need may look plain and simple but I putt the lights out with it! With age I have learned That My game is where my pride comes from not the equipment I can put in my bag! I can afford to bag 5 star Honma clubs covered in gold. So what! They don't make me a better golfer. I will play what gives me the best chance to score! You will find nothing in my bag for popularity.
  13. I play golf for fun! Every round is practice for those rounds I play for money. Each year around this time I go out and play with intent for tracking and figuring out my yardages for the new year. I use the entire card for this. In the top corner of the score bax I indicate the club I teed off with ie a d in the corner. When I shoot the yardage for the next shot I finish the box this the yards left to the flag. I then mark the club I will hit in the box below. If I mis the green or hit it I mark the next shot distance from the hole. I note SL for short left lr for long right and so on. The box below has club on the green would be P off the green would give wedge loft, on green distance is in feet off is in yards. Mishits I make a small dot in a corner of the box. Side hill lie I mark a diagonal hash mark in the corner. Chocked down or knock I make a dot on the left edge of the box. The score I mark in the bottom row - for par 1 for bogie and a circled 1 for birdie. Doing this enables me to figure out the distance range for each club. I also do this if I am struggling to score. My warm ups mostly entail hitting lots of chips and putts before the round. I use three balls and hit my lob wedge from the same area to the same flag Stock then High then low. I then go putt the results like I am in a round. I hit long 50 yards and short wedges green side. Just going to the range and hitting balls almost never happens and by choice. I would rather go play 9.
  14. I also had Irons I loved for 20 years. I just sent them to theironfactory.com now they are back in my bag and the love affair is back on. Way more cost effective than the two set of irons I have tried in the intervening years. They came back like new.
  15. My best golf purchases: 1. KZG Forged III irons (refinished and regrooved this year) 2. Positive Putter P2 (custom built for me, I have 2) 3. Cleveland CG12 DSG RTX wedges in 54/10 & 58/10 4. Taylormade MD 4 Tiger grind 56/12 bent to 54/10 & 58/14 5. Garmin Approach Z80 My worst golf purchases: 1. All the putters I ever owned that I was not fitted to. 2. The first Cobra driver to win MGS highest rating (early years when you had 5 testers and rated them) I don't even remember its name it was straight but very short) 3. Taylormade SLDR 4. Birdieballs putting mat (just to big to use in my house) 5. 20 or so random clubs I didn't get fit for!!!
  16. That may be the case. The ball I have came from Dick's and doesn't have that alinement aid.
  17. I also bought them hoping for your results in my game I would love to get balls for 35% less and keep the results I am used to.
  18. The Maxfli Tour ball is what I was using. I did not hit it on any cart paths or trees, the scuffs came from my MD4 wedge. I like to fly the ball close to the hole with spin around the greens more than pitch and roll. I also have brand new wedges with fresh grooves and faces. I didn't find the ball to spin to a stop the way the Callaway Chrome Tour Srixon Z star or Titleist Pro V1x do for me. I am glad you enjoy the ball and that it responds for you the way you need it to. No ball is good for everyone's game.
  19. I bought a dozen of these to test. I wanted to find a second tier priced urethane ball. I liked that the compression was a bit lower than tour balls and higher than most of the soft balls. It felt good and flew well. It was a fairway finder with the driver to a point (I'll come back to it). It was as long with my irons as any of the soft balls. They spin around the green (50 yards & in) was not as good for me. Full and 3/4 wedges were good for hop and stop. The overriding thing I found with the ball was it scuffs to easily! After every hole that I hit a full or 3/4 swing wedge the next drive spun off the fairway. Finally I noticed the large scuff on the ball from my wedge. The savings are negated from the buy price if they can't be played after any full swing wedges. I would need 5 or 6 balls per round. Playing with the scuff turns the ball off the planet if I go after one. I do not slice and rarely snap hook (a handful a year). I sliced a ball 40 yards and snap hooked one. Both balls were struck in the center of the face. (the TSR 3 leaves a distinct mark on the face). I also tested the Chrome Tour and that is the ball I will play this year.
  20. The shaft works great for me. I have played it for 3 or 4 years
  21. I would not use anything but the the Winn oversized Dri Tec wrap grips. My hands are to big for gloves, I wear a size 20 ring. That said any kind of cord grips are out. I need a grip that is soft to the hands. The Winn Dri Tec wrap grips are amazing. They are soft to the touch and the wrap grooves give them some extra versatilities. I know that I can drop my hands down one wrap groove down and take 7 yards off the a shot. I notice if I am gripping the club to tightly. They are amazing. The only draw back is they wear hot spots after about 40 rounds. I change most of them 2 times a year and my driver & lob wedge 3, my hybrids and fairway woods just once a year. These grips are also great for older arthritic hands. I would recommend them to anyone! In your own size.
  22. I decided to change my 58* this year. I ordered a Taylormade MG 4 56* Tiger grind bent to 58/14. The spin I was getting from my 54 was just so much better than my Renegar 58* that I knew I needed to switch the 58* too. I did not like the Tiger grind 60 bent to 58* when I bought it in MG 3, so I went with the Renegar last year. After a year of playing the Tiger 56 bent to 54/10 I knew I need to try one bent to 58/14. I like it for my home course where we have the rough grown deep and thick. I like to fly the ball closer to the hole out of the rough and this club stops better. I have never played a face that feels more abrasive. I had an old Titleist Vokey spin milled wedge that was a near match and I loved that wedge.
  23. Sticking with the TSR3 10* Accura TZ6 M3 65g I still hit it straight and 240-250 no changes needed!
