It has been a few years, but we are very happy to have PING golf clubs back as part of our Forum Member Testing! The PING s159 are the newest wedges from PING; however, it is not just new wedges that PING is excited about for this testing opportunity. They have also released their new WebFit App that aims to simplify the often confusing wedge grind dilemma.

PING s159 Wedge Features:

The s159 wedges are now offered in six different grind options, with two brand new grinds introduced for this series (the B and H grinds). As PING worked closely with their tour professionals on an updated design and look which would appeal to more golfers.

PING has included their Friction Face that combines face blast and their optimized precision-milled grooves for what they claim is "the launch and spin control to play score-lowering shots from every distance." Add in appropriately spaced MicroMax grooves depending on the loft; these wedges are packed full of technology.

All of their loft and grind combinations have been made available in two different finishes: The Hydropearl 2.0 Chrome and Midnight.

The WebFit Wedge App:

A simple step-by-step questionnaire based on what their wedge experts use to identify the best grinds and options for their tour pros, the WebFit app aims to simplify and find the best grinds and lofts for your game.
The entire process takes only a few minutes and provides several options that best suit your answers, making the choice of knowing what grind should work for you a whole lot simpler!

About The Testing Opportunity:

Four golfers will be selected to test, review, and keep a set of PING s159 wedges. Testers will go through the new PING WebFit Wedge App and then discuss their recommended specifications with a PING representative to dial in their specifications.

I am stoked to read about this. This is the year I upgrade my wedges. I upgraded irons & driver the last two years. Good luck to everyone signing up!

Would love to offer a high handicapper point of view as someone who's goal is to get out more frequently and take the game more seriously this year.  Currently have a pair of ORLIMAR SOS WEDGES that I cannot wait to upgrade this spring.

GolfSpy,

Looking forward to the opportunity to test these out. I've been playing my Vokey SM9s for the past few weeks and very interested to see how these stack up. Feel free to reach out with any questions or a conversation.

Mike

Definitely excited to give this a shot, been using a set of the Kirkland wedges for the past 6 months which are surprisingly good but always looking for something new to improve my game.

although these are the results of the ping web fit, i currently have, and absolutely love my glide 2.0 56 ES grind, it has something akin to an extra half groove on the bottom of the face which helps immensely out of the rough, so much so that although I am looking to replace my current line up of 50 / 56 / 60 to 50 / 54 / 58.....I would prefer to override the fit on the 54 12 S, to the E grind, as well as on the 58......so E grind for me if I am so lucky to have a chance at this opportunity.

I currently game the Ping i200s, nothing but great things to say other than a few of the plastic neck ferals have loosened / broken over time and that as technology / clubs have changed degrees, my club distances are a tad dated.  I will be testing out the i230 power specs and the brand new i530's that were just announced.

I am also stuck with the age old question of W and UW vs W and 50 degree S159....so I will be testing this out as well.

Lastly, although my activity on this site is not as high, I am on it often looking at all the new equipment, reading articles and following along.....

I will def post more so I can get involved more and give myself a realistic chance of becoming a tester.....

for example, I am in a G425 LST, which for 100 mph swing speed, is just a bit of a reach, my best drives are amazing, howerever, they are 1-2 per round.  I am most likely a prime candidate for the G430 Max or new 4k Max which would help out more my average drives.

Either way, I greatly appreciate you guys, and if selected am more than happy to discuss the pro / cons of the S159 from full approaches of 75 - 105 yards, 1/2 and 1/4 shots, all kinds of shots around the greens including short - sided pins from rough, sand, tight fairway, normal fairway to little flops to bump and runs, and the occasional bounce check....haha.....once every 2-3 rounds, esp with my very old Glide 2.0..........

Peace and thank you for all your great work!

The PING Wedge Fitting app was so easy to use! For someone like myself, who has gotten into golf semi-recently, I have never taken the time to learn the difference between the different wedge grinds and their advantages. Living in Salt Lake City, I have a need for a grind that is playable in firm and dry conditions and this app made it so simple to determine the H grind as the best option for dry turf. The gapping results page was also fascinating! I will normally carry a half PW about 150 (living at 4500 feet of elevation) and have always struggled from the 120-150 range because of poor wedge selection and gapping, but now PING has made it much easier to try to fix this problem.

Really cool stuff. Super helpful for people trying to better understand grinds/bounce and pick clubs that work best for them. A lot of this stuff can be very confusing so really enjoy these insights for such a quick survey. BOL to everyone!

Just now, Rhys said:

Have actually been looking at the ping wedges. Love their drivers so looking to try all they have to offer!

To be 100% honest I've played their irons and there drivers at different times in my life and I always had a "dead" feeling from the wedges BUT NOT these!!! They check all the boxes for me and look great at address

I almost went with the Ping wedges because I play most rounds early in the morning when it’s still wet, so I wanted wedges that performed well in those conditions. It would be an honor to be able to test these wedges against my current set of Vokey SM9s.
