Sorry, off the main topic, but how far do you hit your driver. I am just curious, but I see the clubhead speed is high, but the smash factor is low, and the loft is like a 6 or 7 iron.

i’m working with my club fitter on getting a driver that will work for me. the bad numbers on that table are due to my driver having a shaft that i have no business swinging.

when i square one up and time the crazy whip from my driver right, they carry 330-340. i get next to no run though because the ball flight is way too high. more often than not i get an ungodly amount of side spin and hit a mile high ballooning drive off to the right

With that speed and being new to the game, I'd buy the cheapest balls possible as you are going to be losing them by the box.

I'd wait until you are striking the ball more efficiently to even consider what is the correct ball.

i was considering using LostGolfBalls.com to do my “testing“ for exactly this reason.

Where was the fitting, where are you going for the fitting and what was the explanation on why the g410 was the recommendation? What do you want from new irons? What else did you try and did the G410 only provide you with distance gains?

Pretty much all irons in the market are good and everyone has their preferences. The challenge is finding the right head/shaft combination that delivers the club correctly for you.

You indicated you hit your irons ok, why not start with the driver and some lessons?

i’ve got lessons in the works already, and am in the process of a driver fitting.

from my irons i’m looking for better accuracy, consistency, and the ability to hold a green well. i don’t care if i lose some distance as long as the distance is consistent. i’m also looking for something that will suit my game as i get better, which is happening quickly

i got fit at Pete’s Golf on Long Island. i’ve got no qualms with the fitting whatsoever. they were great. the 410s were chosen because i’m so new and on paper should fit the game improvement category. dispersion was a little better but distance was a little outrageous. i don’t need a 210 yard 7 iron.

  4. hey everyone!

i’m new to the forum and also new to golf. i picked the game up two months ago and have gotten out 3-4 times a week since.

i’m about a 20-22 handicap, but that’s more due to being horrible off the tee (another story for another day) and not a reflection of my iron play

im currently playing with my dad’s 22 year old TM LCG irons. i went a few weeks ago and got fitted, and the recommendation was for ping g410 irons.

my hesitation with ordering the set is that i don’t really need the added distance of a GI iron. with my old hand me down set, i carry a 7 iron 200 yards, and hit the 3 iron 260+.

im going back for a second fitting in a week or so to look at some players irons and see how i hit them. i’m planning on trying out TM p790 and p760, titlest t100, srixon z785, mizuno mp18, and ping i210.

any other recommendations are welcome as well as any input on what i’ve selected.

thanks, happy to be here on the forum.

Honestly I think the what worked best for me was I bought sleeves of a lot of balls and found out through playing what worked best for me. This is how I landed on the Srixon Q star XV and I love how I hit it and how well I am able to play it.

    thanks Tom,

that seems like a pretty good way to weed out what does and doesn’t work for me. i’ll check out the Srixons as well.

  6. hey everyone, i’m new around here and also new to golf. i picked the game up two months ago after years of nagging from my father. turn out quarantine cabin fever will lead a man to try new things.

i currently play noodles because they’re cheap (read free) because a lawyer that i do business with gets his firm’s name stamped on everything humanly possible.

as i get deeper into the game (fittings, lessons, etc) i want to be sure that everything i’m gaming is right for me.

about my swing and how i hit the ball :

ive got 135 club head speed on my driver, 105-110 on my 7 iron. i put a lot of spin on the ball and am actually a decent wedge player around the green for being so new.

id love to hear everyone’s recommendations.

pics attached bc i know that my swing speeds don’t correlate with being so new to the game. i’ve been on forums enough to know “pics or it didn’t happen”
