I found an article on a random website named Golf Ace Nation (https://golfacenation.com/do-golf-balls-go-bad/). Here is what they said about golf balls in water: "When golf balls are exposed to water, they can absorb moisture, causing them to become heavier and lower their compression. As a result, they may lose distance and accuracy, leading to poorer shot-making." They also discussed the effect of cold on the golf balls.
