  1. So I did what you suggested here and choked WAY down on the ol dirver this last week. I hit about 6-8 practice ball with the grip and was swinging maybe 50%, and things looked fairly good to go. First tee, sliced, but nothing terrible like usual. Pretty sure I was just trying to grip it and rip it, so not really what I was going for. But for the rest of the round I focused on keeping it in play and this really did help. I had more then 5 straight down the middle picture perfect. Only was getting about 230/240 so nothing impressive. But I was in the fairway and was giving myself a better second look for sure. Thanks for the tip. I plan on slowly decreasing the how far I choke down slowly but surely till I get a better handle on the swing.
  2. Looking forward to hearing how the 60 works out / compares
  3. I would try three a 3 wood off the tee if I had one. I haven't had a three wood in my bag for well over 15 years, so at this point I don't even know if getting another new club is worth it or just stick to 4 Iron off the tee and playing it that way. I do want to get a driving iron for sure. Maybe a 2 so I can get a bit most distance while still keeping at iron style swing.
  4. I have slowed my back swing down a lot since one of by buddies pointed out that I was coming back WAY to fast. His actual words were "OK Rham how about you put it in play next time." I agree that getting like 240-260 in the Fairway is way better than 290 OB. But can't get better if you aren't playing what you like lol. I know I just need to practice more in all honestly, My hands get ahead of the club head and thus slicing hard OB.
  5. A few weeks ago I had had enough of just shank after shank and losing the ball with the driver, I put that sucka right in the bag and finished the round with Irons off the tees. I didn't do any better but sure didn't do any worse. I also didn't lose a bunch of balls. Come the next round I still had a slice but it wasn't pronounced to the point that I just couldn't find the ball. Long story short, my buddy and I decided that a proper club fitting would be good for the both of us. So hearing that you got some great results already, it lends me to want to do this quicker
  6. Nike... My first real set of clubs and the ones I still use today are Nike SlingShots. I have one of the last versions of their Victory Red Drivers I still use. I used to only play Nike balls. I wanted .. no I needed everything nike named/branded/sold in my bag so I could play better. s***** shot over water with a rando tree ball found. Obviously it went hard right and dead center of the pond was due to nonNike ball, so doe that even count as a stroke? Now being a fair bit older and not having all that extra disposable income cuz you know having a family and all that. I play just about anything and everything I can get my hands on. I play a fairly cheap ball, that is if I am forced to go out and get some new ones. I just got some Lazrus wedges cuz they were cheap and I needed some wedges and I'm not making the Korn ferry tour this season (or any of the folllowing either_, let alone the PGA. So biases BE GONE> although I REALLY REALLY want Nike to come back into the club realm. I could use a new set of Irons, a nice new driver, and maybe a fairway wood or two... just saying.
  7. I actually just bought the set you are referring to. I did the discounted ones that were considered "dinged / scratched" and only plaid $99 (with express shipping). I have two full rounds in with them and have let my buddy hit them as well on the range. I have had zero issues with them and again my buddy seems not to notice any real difference between the Lazrus and his taylor made's. That's not to say the TM's aren't a "better" product. But for our weekend warrior outtings them seem to work out just fine. Also, these are the first wedges outside of the PW and AW from my Nike set that I have ever used more then just a rando shot with someone elses clubs, so I don't have a lot of base comparison off of. That being said if you aren't a scratch golfer or out all day everyday getting them Par rounds in, I would say they are worth the 100 bucks.
  8. I DO the exact same thing!! STUPID hard right shank with the driver, then I tell myself that next hole if this dang driver slices I'm using irons the rest of the day.... Then I get that ONE sweet picture perfect drive, straight down the fairways, hits about 260-270 then rolls a bit. The golf gods or devil gives ya that good lookin one only to crush your hopes the next tee shot. So to address this I have really tried to have a pre shot routine and also to relax and not over think the driver. When I line up the irons, there is almost zero worry or thought. But the driver I think to much and feel like I am standing there forever. Stay calm and start the routine then hack away.
  9. Kettle bell work outs are by far the best bang for your buck imo. If I have a limited amount of time, I can go into the garage grab ONE KB and I can make my life miserable in about 30 mins. That KB doesn't even need to be that heavy to get a lot of work in. Youtube would be your friend doing KB workouts if you haven't ever done / messes with KB before.
  10. Do you strictly play the Chrome Softs, or jus Callaway in general? I have been enjoying how the WarBirds have been treating me off the tee to the green. I really don't like the way the feel while putting. I play ProVs on the green but have a box of Superfasts (I think that is was they are called) that I am going to give a try this weekend. But was just looking for different opinions on types of Callaways
  11. I like to play Callaway Warbirds from tee to the green, and have been using them most of this year. Then when I get on the green I finish out with a ProV1. I like the way those Callaway's hit/feel on most every shot except putting. I have and still do play most other Callaway balls, but the Warbirds are my go to right now. Using the ProV's on the green and only on the green is a safer bet for me seeing as I am probably about the same Handicap as well(not real sure, but I know I am no where near a scratch golfer.) So to avoid being to upset over losing balls all the time, I play a cheaper ball and putt with the expensive ones.
  12. Are you saying the Callaway is a cheaper urethane ball? and the ProV's play better due to the cover type? I have a real bad habit of getting WAY to invested into sports and hobbies, I have several already(BJJ, MMA, Cycling) that I try to keep myself from going full bore into golf. At one time about a decade + ago I would be able to keep up with this convo but now I'm outta the loop of what is what, so just trying to clarify what you were meaning
  13. Agreed!! I play Callaway mostly as of late due to getting 15 for about $20-ish the last year or so. The warbirds have treated me fairly well and I really can't complain, mainly due to not being that great at the whole golf thing away. The one thing I don't like about cheaper/harder balls is the feel when putting. I really like the way a ProV1 feels when I am putting. I recently bought a dozen just for putting because I like the way it feels. So tee to green I play the Callaway's I have stuffed in the bag, regardless of type. Then when comes time to finishing out on the green, just do a quick ball switch and call it a day. I don't feel bad about losing a handful of Callaway's throughout the day, I would feel REAL bad losing $55 worth of balls.
  14. 1. Been playing since middle school way back when. Started off like most ppl with some used clubs from garage sale. At one time I had an actual wooden wood that I played with, it didn't last long, but I have used one. Best round - 86 Normal run of the mill weekend between 95-115(wide margin I know but it all depends on how I am feeling/swinging that day) 2. Just getting out and about doing something different and hanging out with friends. I can be having the worst day or the best day imaginable, either way still enjoy getting out and seeing whats what 3. One of my buddies told me about this and how you can get clubs to test out and you actually get to keep them afterwards. Plus all the helpful tips and practice information that available. He strongly has encouraged me to look at the practice tips and tricks portion. Also said if I am not going to upgrade my clubs, I should at least try the lottery testing 4. College station, TX and home course Phillips Event Center Bryan, TX 5. Locally there is only two open courses to play, and three REALLY nice course that are members only which sucks. Great weather most of the year, but the summer time you can get beat down REAL quick in the heat of the day. 6. GIS work for the local University
