Wayne Kivi's Achievements

  1. I tend to use a ball for a couple of rounds unless, as many have said, it shows any cart path or tree damage. I don't like to use balls that scuff easily from normal use. My shag bag is getting heavier and heavier every season.
  2. When I was 75, I shot my age twice with a 74 and 71 (career best) from the white tees. Now that I'm 83 and playing from the forward tees on a championship course, I usually shoot my age 3-4 times a year with the most recent, three days ago, shooting an 81 with winter rules (preferred lies). I play with two guys that are 88 y/o who shoot their age once week. Also, remember that the older you get, the easier it is assuming that you take care of yourself and do a lot of stretching.
  3. I have a pretty good outdoor net 7' H x10' W and a decent mat that I have painted with setup and swing path (to help my occasional OTT) lines. I usually play 3x/wk and always hit balls between rounds and plus a few before I leave the house. In the winter, I move my net into my basement (8" ceiling) along with my mat and hit balls 3-4x/wk for 45 min depending the weather as we try to play golf if the temperature is north of 35*. I'm guessing from some of these comments that I'm overdoing it and should cut back on my practicing. I have lots of back issues that cause me lots of grief and frustration. I do lots of stretching before hitting balls or playing. At my age, 83 y/o, and golf is pretty important in my life and allows me to maintain segments of my prior skill level. As I write this, I realize that I will definitely cut back which will probably help my game.
  4. I have, for the majority of my golfing career, always bought used clubs from various sources including ebay, PGA store, and Callaway Preowned as well as other sites. I am also a hobbyist club builder and keep a running communication with many professional club makers including Tom Wishon and some of the clubmakers on YouTube. There is little difference between new and good used clubs, assuming that they fit your specs. I'm a retired teacher and live. on a budget. I have bought new clubs, my last is a set of Cleveland Halo irons to help with my game (83 y/o). I know my specs and my game and try to match them up with my equipment. The most important thing is to know your game and trust the seller. Be careful out there.
  5. I have numerous back issues with strenuous, protruding discs, and spondilitis. My back was tightening up so badly that I almost had to give up the game in spite of my daily stretching routines. I started taking a Liposomal Tumereric (Synchro) daily which has really quieted down the inflammation and got me back on the course. I'm 83 y/o and shot my age last week. I'm now in a golf performance program with an emphasis on avoiding injuries sponsored by my local healthcare group and TPI. I'm also curious about the benefits of Yoga.
