Skrizan's Achievements

  1. Learn something new everyday. I have always used solvent and tape and thought the air was only to help if the grip was not sliding all the way on. I have a large compressor and have used it before when having issues. I have never had a problem doing steel shafts, but have run into issues and even wrecked a new grip when trying to install on driver with a fat graphite shaft. (That was before I knew about the compressor trick.) It sounds like maybe I was not using enough solvent. Maybe I will try again sometime, but I had Dicks replace my hybrid grips with graphite shafts this year, and I did the irons myself. Had no issues with solvent and bench vise and a piece of inner tube rubber. Also, I use a curved hook blade commonly used for cutting asphalt shingles to remove the old grip, I'll have to check out the heat method. I already have a heat gun.
  2. I ditched 5 wood and 4 iron when I got Callaway Steelhead 3 and 4 Hybrids. I have a PING G410 3 wood, but I'm not sure I should, as I make more mishits with it than my 3 hybrid, and honestly I don't think I can hit it much farther than the hybrid. When I redo my bag I may consider a 5 hybrid and get rid of the 5 iron. And either a mini driver or 2 hybrid in place of the 3 wood.
  3. Just cut some arm and head holes in these burlap bags, have a whole wardrobe. Hideous.
  4. Thanks for the feedback Arod, I plan to retire in around 4 years. Before I do I want to replace my whole bag and plan to get fitted when I do. Given how much it will cost maybe I should do it in phases. Probably start with Driver first, since mine is 5 years old.
  5. I see a lot of posts mentioning shafts. I have never been fitted and with my 90-95 swing speed (sometimes hitting a max 100-105) I have always just used the stock Regular flex on every driver I've owned. Am I missing the boat not trying different shafts? I currently have a PING G410 Plus with Alta CB Red 55 shaft.
  6. Golf season is no longer than seven months in Michigan so you have to have other hobbies to stay sane. January and February are the worst, with only hiking deer and turkey hunting grounds or maybe ice fishing if there is any ice. March is ugly also, but had a few 70 degree warm spells and actually got 36 holes in this year. April is usually when most courses start to open. (weather permitting, is ugly this week, snow flurries possible, but maybe 60's next week!) And I will hunt Turkey from late April and into May depending on when/if I get one. My golf leagues will start weather permitting last week of April, and I will get as much golf in as the wife will allow all summer and into fall. Will get some camping in during the summer also, and if my daughter, son--in-law and grandsons camp with us my son-in-law and I will play a course nearby. In the fall and winter I will golf until it gets too cold. I will hunt turkey and deer with bow, and gun if necessary, but bow is more satisfying.
  7. Had a friend who played the red ones for a bit. Of course we made fun and called them pink. Couldn't see those things in the air for anything. I got some Srixon Qstar Tour Divide yellow/orange with clubhouse credit from winning golf league. Very easy to see them in the air and in the rough and woods. Also great for putting alignment, but as others have stated I hated the feel and did not like the distance I got with them.
  8. Both! I use a cart bag usually, but I was lucky enough to be drawn second at end of league party last year and best prize available was a nice Cleveland stand bag. I wouldn't purchase both though, but is nice to have both as I walk in the spring and fall, when course is closed and when they won't let carts out because it is too wet. The cartbag has more pockets and a cooler pocket and if riding I would definitely stick with it. Some courses only give you a plastic bag with ice and your beer, so the cooler is nice. The stand bag is much lighter and I can pack it light for pushing it on my Babgoy cart.
  9. Kudos to everyone putting family/kids first. You hear that time flies, but never really believe it until you are in your late fifties, and it seems like it was yesterday that you were raising your little ones... Even for us with a lot of time, you need to decide how much time and money do you really want to spend to get better? We would all love to be scratch, but for most, that will never happen. So we need to be realistic and just enjoy the game. I used to be happy with bogey golf, sometimes breaking 90. But with more time, the internet and video, now I am trying to break 80 instead of 90. I say I would be happy with that, but obviously I would just want to get better. So I enjoy the good rounds, and shake off the bad ones. Life is too short, so maybe we should play much more than we practice.
  10. I agree the mat can definitely hurt, especially with the over the top, too steep swing I have been fighting for years.
  11. Ditto, the winter before last I hit a simulator a bunch and it was great. When the weather finally broke I was in great shape and good form to start the season. This past fall I messed up my elbow trimming a tree for hunting (tennis elbow, tendon issue) and I developed some neck shoulder pain also, both on my right/trail arm. Tried to hit the Sim once and neck and shoulder were killing me after. Ended up doing PT for both elbow and shoulder for a few weeks. Elbow got better, shoulder not so much. I hit the Sim the other day and I sucked, but I felt ok after, so that is good. I do have a 9 foot putting green from Amazon that I practice on almost daily, since I am in IT and work from home 100%
  12. Got 6" of snow here in Michigan yesterday, so no. But seriously, I play 2 9 hole leagues on the same course and never birdie every hole in a season. I did birdie holes 9, 10 and 11 on another course my first round this season, so maybe not impossible, but highly unlikely for sure.
  13. @DKScott has the friend who was getting the extra distance, I just commented on it.
  14. If I could gain 30-35 yards on my drive I might just have to spend $600, but seems unlikely.
  15. Sticking with the PING G410 plus that I got for $329 at Spring golf show in 2019. Was a great deal and a great driver. I hit the PingG430 and Stealth last year on simulator and really didn't see any improvement in accuracy or distance with my swing. I'm sure the new 10k drivers are awesome, but not for 5 to $600 dollars. I miss the days when the new models were $300 and the previous year models were marked down to $199 or even $150. Alas, those days are gone.
