  1. This is a great point about a lack of promotions. And I think it hits the nail on the head. My friend was buying some new shafts for his irons about 3 months ago, and asked me my opinion on LA Golf. I had never heard of it. Granted, I’m not on any social medias. But still, the fact that I didn’t know anything about it suggests that they didn’t invest heavily enough into telling people they existed. It’s like being lost in the woods with a flair gun and shooting it in the middle of the day. Some people will see it, but your impact will be limited.
  2. I’m not the one who tested this, but I’ll still share this because I thought it was interesting. My friend has recently gotten into flipping golf clubs. We live close to The Villages, so it’s very easy to find GREAT deals on golf clubs by using Facebook marketplace. He recently found an almost brand new L.A.B Putter for cheap. The reason the person was selling it was because they wanted a different model (I’m not sure which model he bought). My friend was quite intrigued and considered simply keeping it, his wife won’t let him though. He still took the putter out and putted on a practice green for around an hour. He really liked it. Said the ball rolled well. Felt like it was very forgiving. And most importantly, he felt like it was easier to put a good stroke on the ball. Here’s the interesting part. A couple days later he went out to play a round and decided to use his own putter. He said it was the worst day of putting he’s ever had. His distance control was horrible. He kept coming up well short on longer range putts and he was racing past the hole on anything short or medium distance. My friend is a very talented putter and has always had a great feel for distance control. Competing against him is the most frustrating thing ever. You can out drive him by a full club or two. Hit the green in regulation with ease while he is struggling to be chipping in the same number of shots. No matter how good or bad the chip is, he’s probably going to make the putt and tie the hole. To hear him say he couldn’t get his distances figured out was very out of the ordinary. I don’t have much to say about the LAB experience. My friend spoke very highly of it. But I found it fascinating that his regular putting was so easily influenced after a single session with a LAB putter. I wonder why that is.
  3. Break 80 again. I broke it twice in November 2020, and I haven’t done it since. Take my handicap from 16 down to 12. Putt better than 2.2 putts per hole for the season.
  4. Hi! I bought a new set of irons recently. A set of Maltby TS4 irons, 4-GW. The GolfWorks website says they are forged from “1025C carbon steel”. I have no idea what that means beyond that it is the most common steel used for forged golf clubs, and that it is untreated. Which means that it is susceptible to rust. This is my first set of brand new irons, and I want to protect my investment. Both the aesthetics and performance. I use a wire brush and towel after each shot. After each round I use a small spray bottle and spritz water onto the clubs and use a wire brush to clean them and I dry them thoroughly. Is this everything there is to do to maintain these clubs for a long time? Is there anything else I should be doing? My father had the idea of after drying the clubs putting just a little bit of WD-40 on the clubs to help prevent rust. A quick google search about how effective WD-40 is at preventing rust will offer mixed results. Quora says “Water Displacement formula 40 (WD-40) is not a rust inhibitor”. The Garage Journal says “WD-40 only lasts about 3 to 4 months as a rust preventative. Just plain old oil works better than that. Other products work better.” Finally, the WD-40 website itself says “a thin layer of WD-40 Multi-Use Product to act as a barrier between the metal and the moisture in the air, preventing rust from forming.” Any experience or advice would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you for your time!

  6. Hi! I’m from a small town in FL. I’m just outside of the villages, which is a golfing retirement community known for its golf. I really enjoy golf but don’t take it too seriously. Playing well is fun, but playing at all is fun too! My WITB: Driver: Cobra Radspeed (red, white, and blue), 10.5 degrees, with a Hzrdus Smoke Yellow shaft, Stiff Flex, 65 grams. 3 wood: Cobra F9, 14 degrees, with a Fujikura Vista Pro, Stiff Flex, 60 grams. Irons: Maltby TS4, 4-GW, with Stiff True Temper Score steel shafts, +1.5 inches longer than standard First wedge: Cleveland RTX Zipcore, 52 degrees, 10 degrees of bounce (I don’t know anything about the shaft) Second wedge: Titleist spin milled wedge, 56 degrees, 12 degrees of bounce (same story with the shaft) Third wedge: titleist wedge, 60 degrees, 4 degrees of bounce. Putter: 2020 Ping Anser Sigma2 37 inches) Ball: Vice Pro Drip There’s a lot of things I would like to get adjusted and tweaked (especially with the wedges) but I really enjoy my bag and my clubs!
