  1. Today is not a how did I play, but I am sure both today and tomorrow will effect how I play Wednesday. Spent all morning at the course shoveling the plugs off the greens, then shoveling sand from the truck into the spreader. Did front today back tomorrow.
  2. Played to day with soreness from a pulled hip flexor. Maybe I should play with this pain all the time shot a 78 and that was with quadruple bogey.
  3. First day out with the new Recoil 680 shafts in my Cobra King Tour irons. Shot even par 72. Great round. Sore back and all. Here is a photo of my 135 yard approach on the 10th hole. 1 put Birdie.
  4. i started my golf back as a teenager, 1970s. It was a bit of a rough start since I started with a used set of Spaulding blades with persimmon woods. Definitely not the best set to start with. After a few years of chasing the ball all over the place. I ended up buying a generic set of game improvement clubs (can’t remember the brand). I played these unto the early 80s. Got a little better and purchased a set of Titleist DTR irons. I played those for quite a while. In 2014 I was fit for a set of Ping G25. Honestly I played them for less than 3 months. Truly hated the pings. I went back to the fitter and traded the. In for a set of Mizuno JPX 850. I played with those clubs until June of this year. At age 65 I went with my current bag which is A full Cobra bag. (Photo attached). I am currently a self taught ( no lessons ) 9 handicap. I truly love the Cobra King Tour irons.
  5. This is my second post here but I wanted to add some info. i started my golf back as a teenager, 1970s. 6. Played 18 holes on Monday, I will have to say it was the worst day I have had in a long time. The only club I could hit was my 3 wood. Shot 92. No comes today, played the same course and shot an even par 71, the best round ever. not sure why the 2 totally different days in the same week
  7. Just ordered some UST Mamiya Recoil 680 F4, now have to wait for them to arrive then put them into my Cobra King Tour iron. The irons currently have KBS $Taper 130. At 65 I believe the $ taper are a bit to heavy for me now.
  8. Today was the best ball striking day I have had in a long time. Almost my first ace, the shot hit the base of the pin and spun out to 3 feet. Had an eagle on a par 4. The worst of it was my putting. Several 3 puts. Shot an 80.
  9. This may end up being a long response. I will start off by saying I am returning to golf after close to a 10 year break. So for the last few months I have viewed many you tube coaches, watched other training videos and guess what I thought was changing my swing to what many seem to think is better. Well when I quit playing I was at an 8 handicap. When I started trying all the so called corrections to my swing. I started hitting fat, topping the ball and just plain playing awful. Well today I decided that I was just going to play a practice round and try everything. Front nine I shot a 44. In the front nine I was trying all the swing thoughts and swing changes that the you tubers suggested. On the back nine I decided to revert back to my original swing. I shot a 38 on the back. The only thing I did change was my tempo. I decided I wanted to try by saying a phrase to time my swing (one banana.) I start saying one as I start my backswing and start my downswing at about when I am at the nana of banana. This seemed to really help. My ball contact with the driver and irons were all better and more consistent. Maybe that is all I need to do. Have a scramble tomorrow. Will be fun to see the reaction of other as I say one banana every swing.
  10. I will stat by saying I am new to the site. I am returning to golf after a 10 year break where I did not even touch a club. When I quit I was playing the Mizuno JPX 850. I started playing again in May of this year. I had a 9 handicap 10 years ago. The first few rounds I was awful in May. I could not hit any of my irons with any consistency. I am sure it was I lost my swing but of course as usual I blamed the clubs. At that point I purchased a set of Cobra King tour irons. After 2 rounds I was striking the irons with more consistency. And was bringing my handicap down to around 8 at this point. I have also won 3 closest to the pin recently. Is it the irons or am I regaining my old swing. Probably both. But the mental part of the game likes these irons better than the old ones.
  11. My current goal is to play as often as possible. I have got my handicap back to 8.5 and plan on improving that as much as I can.
  12. These ratings and numbers are what they are. A lot of how playable an iron is depends on you swing and your comfort with that particular iron. I took a 5 year break from golf, decided to get back into the the game at 65. I was playing a set of Mizuno 850, and truly struggled to hit them when I returned to play. I went out and bought a set of Cobra King Tour and have shot the best rounds I have ever played. So it truly has to do with what pleases your eyes when it comes to playability.
  13. Well I went over 5 years with out buying anything golf related. Actually did not even play golf for 5 years. Started playing again 3 months ago and have bought A Cobra LTDX driver and also decided I needed new irons so I got fit and bought Co ra King Tour irons 4 thru pitch. And 3 new Cobra wedges.
  14. Well to newer the question. I want to upgrade my driver. Been playing the Cobra FlyZ for a while. Just recently, 2 weeks ago upgraded my entire irons from Mizuno JPX 850 to the Cobra King Tour. There was a major improvement in my game with this upgrade. I have been on the course 3 times with the new irons and my ball striking has been great. I am hoping it is not a honeymoon period. a little background is I am 65 years old and took a break from playing for about 6 years started back to the game about 3 months ago. I would never have thought of hitting a 4 iron until I tried the tour 4 iron today. Hit 2 beautiful draw on 2 different par 5 eagled one and birdied the second. for me the upgrade from game improvement to player irons has been great.
