  1. Played 18 Saturday. 48/45 for an ugly 93. The front I couldn't hit an iron. The back was solid, but my putting has been woeful. On the plus side, did a great job recovering after the front 9. Only trouble I had was putting on 17 where it was in a really rough spot and I could not keep it close. I think a trip using the putting mirror will help everything out.
  2. I agree with you in one sense. You earn the score for the most part. You hit a bad wedge to 3-4 foot instead of a foot and miss it? You're own fault. 30 mph winds? Add a few strokes to your expected. There's a difference though between playing poorly and getting lucky and playing well and not getting lucky. For instance I hit a ground ball that scooted over 4 hills and rolled to 10 foot. I hit the 10 footer. Does that make it better than a shot that lands to a few feet but hits a ball mark and the putt misses? There's earning it and being gifted it. I'd say there's only maybe 1-2 strokes you can point to during any given outing where any sort of luck would be a factor. Putting is one, especially on greens that aren't maintained well. But I think you can also look at a round and say I played better than the score would indicate: such as having a really bad start, but finishing the back 9 really well. Sure you had two bad holes that blew up a score, but take those out and you probably would look at a totally different scorecard.
  3. I played Talon Thre is a difference. For instance, you hit great drivers and your irons are just slightly off and you find yourself just off the green. Maybe a gust of wind knocks a ball down. A putt rolls true than hits a bump. Something along those lines where you know you're playing well enough to score but just aren't putting up a good score. I've had a few of those rounds where 4-5 shots could have gone either way and went against me. Those can sometimes double up where you end up in bad lies and the like from a ball that normally is on the green. Cuts both ways too. I've hit enough ground balls that somehow roll to ten feet that keep a round from getting truly ugly.
  4. Played 36 this weekend, none at my usual course. Drove out to Phoenix and played 18 at Greyhawk. Great course out there and loved the atmosphere. It rained on us and the wind howled and switched directions that only one or two holes the wind was into us. As for the golf it was up and down at best. Sunday I played another local course. Greens were not in great shape and putting was a chore. Hit some really good wedges at times and some that were plain pitiful. Did manage to hit a 35 foot bomb for a birdie on 17. That was the lone highlight of a round where I never really got going and the driving was meh. On plus side, smashed a driver 280 in front of a group letting us play through. Probably the best one all day.
  5. I hate the opposite where you play a good round and look at the scorecard and it was a bloodbath. The best is where you shoot a good number after a really poor start. That gives you so much confidence going forward.
  6. played 36 this weekend. Saturday I think my blood sugar crashed on the back. I could not focus at all. Simple things were impossible as I was so tired and had no food I simply mentally collapsed. I've never had anything at all like that before. Sunday, on better rest and actually eating before I played I shot 88 with the winds picking up to 35-40 miles per hour on the back. Highlight of that was hitting a 4 iron 170 yards into a dead straight ahead wind and putting it to 30 feet with everyone else 20-30 yards short. I had to hit that thing nearly perfect to get it over the bunker but low enough to keep it under the wind.
  7. Played a ton of golf the last week: I ended up deciding to play in Vegas and take a week off from work. I never broke 90, but to be fair a lot of the greens were rocks and I couldn't stop the ball. I ended up playing Coyote Springs (2x in a day) Angel Park and TPC Vegas. Coyote Spring remains my favorite although I started to like TPC Vegas a lot more the second time around. That was Tuesday-Thursday. Saturday and Sunday was back to my home course where 15-20 mph winds were typical and gusts near 30 were consistent. I hit 2-3 shots that got thrown by the wind, but overall think I started to turn the corner. We shall see.
  8. haven't been on in awhile due to a computer malfunction, a broken up relationship and overall a few terrible weeks. Golf story: I've shot 80 once after going one over on the back at my home course. I've never even come close to trul y breaking the 80 mark needing a bunch of birdies to make it, or needing some type of miracle shot. With that my story: I started off two weeks ago playing 9 and not doing so well before I bailed. I wouldn't have broken 90 had I kept going as my game was rusty after a few off weeks. Thursday I went out and played by myself after having most of the day off and shot a 81, missing two 7 footers on the last two holes for birdie. Had I hit both, I'd break 80 for the first time ever. I felt good coming into the weekend but last weekend was a crapshow. Saturday I broke my 60 degree wedge over my knee in fustration over several skulled/bladed/chunked/terrible shots. That was the low light of the day, up until my girlfriend broke things off. I never realized how happy I was until that moment, which shook things up. A sunday round had me well above theoretically breaking 90 and it was on the 13th hole I called it quits. My golf therapy was not helping as slow play kept her on my mind way too long. On top of that situation work got real rough. Think every thing, from coworkers failing, to equipment busting. My mental state did not help. After possibly the roughest week at work, I took off Friday to reset things. I had no one to hang out with so decided to head to the course. I think I shot around an 85 give or take with a big comeback on the back. Somehow in my state I rallied on the back, shooting a 41 or 42. Saturday was my usual time to play but my partner decided to bail. I was 1+ through 6 holes and had the two easiest holes in front of me. I proceeded to double both. That effectively took away any shot at breaking 80-- so I thought. That day the reads on the green I was seeing were phenomenal. 30 foot putts to 5 inches, 4-6 footers dropping left and right. Still the doubles on 7 & 8 kept me from getting under 80 shooting another 81. Sunday I had the green reading on lock and just felt at ease. After a long week and breakup somehow I was starting to get over it. Golf helped me cope and it would give me the best gift besides my hole in one. I started the front off with a bogey bogey start on two holes that I usually can walk away +1 or if I'm doing well even. That generally says to me, it's going to be a tough grind. In front of a foursome I knocked the ball to 7 foot and rolled in a birdie. Another double on the next hole ruined that momentum and the rest of the front went pretty mundane until I hit a 27 foot bomb on 8 for my third second birdie. I took a pretty nice 41 considering the two doubles, but the back nine would start off badly. Two bogeys over the first two holes would require me to par out to break 80. The momentum maker: a low running 9 iron from 35 yards to 6 foot and hitting the putt to save par. After that it was par city to the par 4 17th where I nearly drove the green and hit a chip to 7 foot. The birdie put me needing just a bogey to shoot 79. I didn't need the extra cushion, sinking the 4 footer to shoot a 78. My first round under 80. To me golf has been a place to relax, a place to challenge myself and more importantly gave me the only high point of last week. It may be small, but even thinking about it puts me in a better mood.
  9. Rough day weekend for me. Shot around 100 Saturday. Weird day. I felt like I was playing well-- just couldn't score. Around the greens I was atracious and then my putting was woeful. Sunday was more of hte same, although the first 8 holes were great and the wheels fell of on 17. Shot a 92, but was on track to beat 90 but somehow hooked a wedge into the water and then chipped one into the hill....which rolled into the water. On the plus side, my driver is getting back to being not just useful but my best weapon. My chipping and putting is what is killing me right now.
  10. Played twice this past weekend. First round shot 88 including some relaly good shots. Felt like a day where I wasted a bunch of shots with some meh putting. On the other hand I finally sorted out my driver. The next round shot around the same. The course was slammed to the point I had to give up after 12. Another round at or near 90. Looks like I finally busted out of my really bad golf trend and starting to put together some really decent rounds. Just need to score better.
  11. Thanks it was the first time in about 4 months I broke 90. This weekend here looks to be great weather wise so I'm planning on playing a good amount this weekend.
  12. Finally broke 90. Played with the Wilson Duo Urethane and loved the ball. I can't wait to get out again after the first itme in two weeks.
  13. I played WeKoPa Saturday and it was an adventure. I hit about 3-4 hosel rockets, 3-4 dead push fades with the driver and had about 3-5 pars. The interesting fact was I could tear up the course for a hole or two, then would hit a disaster hole or two. Pushed my final score about 90, but I was playing a lot better than I have in weeks past. I'm hoping the trend continues.
  14. I played twice this weekend both times only getting in 13-14 holes. I recently decided to get lessons. They've paid off in that I'm no longer totally useless with certain clubs, but I'm still very inconsistent. I shot 93-94 both times, the second round was because I couldn't chip or pitch to save my life. After my second lesson today I have a feeling my driver could be good to go. If it is, I should be able to shoot a lot better.
  15. I used to practice bunker blasts in the snow. Problem was the ball would stick to the snow after one shot.
  16. I'm guessing you had a yellow ball?
  17. I played 7 holes last weekend. I quit. I wasn't having fun spraying the ball all over the place and frankly the pace of play was 5.5 hours. It was atrocious. The twosome in front of me didn't even acknowledge my existence when I pulled up behind them and it was enough. On the plus side I broke down and got golf lessons. So far I like the results.
  18. Shot a 92 yesterday. couldn't get it going fully, but thought I turned the corner with the driver. Last 3-4 holes I was hitting some bombs. Then today happened. I hit 2-3 good ones and the rest were mediocre or downright terrible. Irons are a mixed bag. Then 16 hit. A par 3 down hill 30-40 feet playing 170. I hit 7 iron the day before but the pin was another 15 foot back. I decided to go with a soft 6 instead of a hard seven. I shanked the first one, then pulled the next two. The last one I shanked right and had enough. Wooosh woosh woosh snap. Broke the 6 iron. I wasn't done yet. I got down to the green and didn't find a single ball. That mean the shaft had to take another beating. MY partner could only laugh. 2015 was my best year by far, but the last 2 months have been awful. I lost any siwing I had and the 6 iron was 2 months of frustration coming out.
  19. We had a strong low pressure system move into the area on Friday night. Saturday was breezy, today was a bit less, although there were plenty of gusts in the 20 mile per hour range. Needless to say with a balky driver Saturday was rough and today was slightly better. The flat stick was working yesterday, but today was meh. Missed a lot of makable putts the last few days. I hit prob around 96 yesterday but a 45 on the back. Today shot 43 and was gunning for the first under 90 round in awhile before dark hit and my shots went to heck. On the plus side played last 18 holes with one ball, so my swing is coming around a lot better. The problem is still hitting off the heel of every club. Frustrating. Also- side note we had what I call an illegal pin position. The pin was set on a side hill, of a recently cut and aerated green. All four of us hit putts that didn't stop until it was off the green. Two of us actually hit putts that went up and then came back to our feet. It was easily the worst pin position of the day, mostly because anything that didn't hit the hole would roll 20 plus feet. Just wondering ever play a green like that?
  20. Last two weekends I've played 3 times and all have been disasters. My driving and irons have seemingly gone to the birds over the past month and I don't know where to start. At one point I shanked 4 straight long irons. Let's start with last Saturday which was a forced range session. Forced because the course was so jammed I couldn't have finished 9 before dark. So I went to the range because everything was so off. Driving was still awful although I got the irons to go where I wanted. I figured out the irons for the most part, although I've had a few hiccups. It's my driving that has stunk. I can't hit one straight and hit everything with a hard slice off the inside of the face. I'll hit one or two good ones and think I've figure it out but it's the most frustrating thing. On top of that my chipping has regressed to the point of complete suckitude. My pitching though has been pretty good, as I hit two with the most spin I've ever had to a few feet twice. Added to that my putting has been off, although the past two days I figured it out by holding my wrist angle. So to sum up: everything sucked, but now irons putting and pitching is serviceable. My driving still is awful.
  21. My elbows have been in constant assortments of stiff, locked up or downright unbendable over the last 5 years. Hockey has caused me to have them overextend and develop issues. I've found ice treatments are great, I use a regular elbow support you get at a sporting goods store sometimes and time is the best help. From experience, ice helps healing and cuts down the reaggravation period by at least a few days. If the elbow starts feeling stiff one ice treatment and a night in the support helps a lot.If it gets serious I tend to take a week off and ice up every day or so. If that doesn't help I've found cold laser at a chiropractors office really did some great work cutting down inflammation. Not sure if it was placebo or if it worked really well, but that solved the worse case I've ever had.
  22. Played two 18's. The first one I had a 4 hole swing where I could not hit a ball. The other 18, I couldn't do much of anything. I need to hit the practice area for a bit just to retool and refocus my swing. I have a feeling I lost a bit of my rhythm and how I get my hips involved. I'll prob try to play again this weekend but who knows.
  23. Finally got back to playing after a 2 week absence and really playing 3 times in the last 5 weeks. Both rounds this weekend I finished about 13 holes. Twice my stomach bug got to the point I couldn't think straight, other than hoping I didn't soil myself. I shot an 87 ish Saturday and was a bit worse on Sunday. Finally figured out my driver somewhat. Now it's more or less just getting a bit more consistent and then going from there.
  24. Got to play Wednesday, first time I've been out in a weekday in a long while. I showed up exausted, and found the course swamped. Our population just about doubles with the snowbirds and it was mobbed. I managed to get 9 in, but it was ugly. I couldn't hit my driver all day and my putts were mediocre. Saturday I played after throwing around the football with the coworkers. My legs were shot after playing nearly two hours and it showed. First round I've shot over 90 in months. Big key was the lack of any driving accuracy and my lack of touch around the greens. Not shocking considering how physcially spent I was. Hoping to play this weekend at least once or twice.
  25. Had an interesting round. Started off at 4 PM Sunday, which makes the first Sunday I've played in months. I lost every ball in my bag, but still managed an 86. How? A ton of pars and some really clutch putting on a few holes. My driving was erratic to say the least. My irons were not exactly crisp, but my short game has seemingly been excellent out of nowhere. (truthfully since I read David Pelz book on it). For a day I played like hot garbage, I'll take another mid 80's round. Only downside was I three putted 18 again. It's iether the third straight time or 2nd in 3 times. I have to figure that out.
