I'm not going with and yes, it is a surprise and they will be traveling by car. I want them to experience the people in the rural areas and hopefully make some new friends! Thanks for the comments.

I like to arrange a golf trip for my son and his wife to travel for 12 months and play golf across the US. Any suggestions of golf courses and/or accommodation you can recommend will be appreciated. I actually have no clue where to start other than Dover (DE) where we live.

Kenny, that is the reason why we did not even mentioned it when we did the bookings, also thought all courses allow disabled golfers, but unfortunately not when you are in a wheelchair. As he will say "my handicap is my wheelchair" - 17 and always play from the front tees. We went to Ireland and 2 courses refused to let him play, so did one in England and one in Spain. Wrote a letter to the local governing bodies - 8 years later and no rely. We made a lovely video with great music of disabled golfers which we presented to sponsors. I will find out how to take some content out and then post it in this forum, I am sure a lot of guys will love to see how these guys enjoy the game.

Agree with you! I just don't like the statement he made as I believe golf is for all, so is tennis and all other sport. There are some courses not allowing my disabled friend to play - tired of this BS

I was very slow when I started to play some 30 years ago, I took a lot of practice swings in the bunker and stand in line of playing partner's put. Should you not ask how many of those players (those with one ball in his hand and one in the pocket) do not have a clue about the rules and etiquette of the game? They go for a lesson or 2 but have no idea what is going on, all they are looking for (same as all of us) are those good shots that makes you come back again and gain.

Huge golf fans do not make statements like that! There's simply no other sport embraced and loved so passionately by rich and poor, men and women alike in the world. By the way, if your venue is the host of a PGA Tour event, it does not mean you run the events.

I don't use them but it's legal according to the USGA and R&A rules, your local Amateur Governing will normally follow the rules of both the R&A and USGA. If your distance-measuring device is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect your play like gradient, wind speed and temperature, then it's is not permitted. Some guys will take a long time before they address the ball and others not, think you will get a lot of different comments on slow play or not. I don't have a problem with the device, as long as the user enjoys his round, it's all good by me.

Congrats on your first, so cute. This remind me of 31 years ago with my first. I counted the toes and fingers, run to a public phone (no mobile phones those days) to call my mom & dad - completely forgot to look if it was a boy or girl.

Thought I share the below trip with you guys… We were 8 guys who went to Ireland for a week to celebrate my 50th and played 5 courses. Normal fines were the order of the day like: 1 Tequila: on-course swearing | club throwing | 2 shots getting out of bunker | late for breakfast 2 Tequilas: go to bed before 2am | more than 2 shots out of the bunker (there were more) The results Day 1: 93 Tequilas Day 2: 2 Tequilas Day 3: 18 Tequilas (1 guy had 11 – only took 5 and the rest the next morning before breakfast) Day 4: 33 Tequilas Day 5: All fines were cancelled – could not handle anymore! What's the lesson we learned? The fines-master is your best and only friend, treat him with respect. Don't get too friendly with the gay barman after a round of golf and lock your door of your hotel room when you go to bed. The barman will use your toilet while you are sleeping, get undressed and jump into bed with you! Never visit a local pub after your golf round and try drinking Guinness Beer with the locals. Do not mix Guinness with Tequila. Your “new friend” will take you to his home and you will miss the next day's golf. Can you image how your friends will look for you in the morning, especially when they have no idea how they got to their hotel? Don't be surprised if most the caddies at some courses are over 60 years of age and carry two bags. If you go to bed at 4am, take 6 tequilas before breakfast and tee up at 8am, you will not break 120 even if you are a 7 handicap. It is also not a good idea to play skins worth $10 per skin. When you can't run fast (very fast), I will not advise you to start a conversation with a father of a lovely lady. To approach a total unfamiliar person, just because you saw him chatting to a girl, you can certainly not tell the guy how much you like the lady at the bar, how well she is build and have the courage to explain in detail what you will do with her. Yes, the guy will also “chip in” with some thoughts of his own, but once he realized that you two are talking about two different girls and the one you like is his 22 year old daughter – then you run and rely on your friends to apologize on your behalf. Not a regular alcohol consumer: It's not a good idea to play golf with 7 buddies if it's your 50th birthday and don't win the competition - not even if you are thousand miles away from home and your family (yes, including your wife). You will have 7 guys complaining about your mom giving birth 50 years ago, question why you are not a girl (just because they will have more “fun” with you) and please do not try playing 18 holes the next day. You might just look down the first fairway after you're first shot and find the ball is still on the tee. Keep golfing ......

And finally something I hope to make you smile. Four old men (82, 83, 87 and 90) went into the pro shop after playing 18 holes of golf. The pro asked, "Did you have a good game today?" The first old guy said, "Yes, I had three riders today." The second old timer, "I had the most riders ever, five." The third, "I had seven riders, the same as last time." And the last said, "I beat my old record. I had 12 riders." After they went into the locker room, another golfer who had overheard the conversation, went to the pro and asked, "I've been playing golf a long time and I thought I knew all the terminology, but what the heck is a rider?" The Pro responded, "A rider is when you hit the ball far enough to get in the cart and ride to it!"

A recent study found that the average golfer walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year. This means that on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon! Kind of makes you proud. Almost makes you feel like a hybrid……

A new golfer confidently stepped onto the first tee all kitted out with new gear. Squaring up to the ball he turned to his caddie and said, “This is my first game you know. It would really surprise my friends if I got a hole-in-one on my first stroke.” “It certainly would,” replied the caddie. ”Especially since you are facing the wrong way.”

You guys mention the price of clubs - what about apparel like a polo shirt for $80 and more. I was in this business for a long time. I'll be surprised if they pay more than $20 for that shirt, including shipping. And then there is one company charging hole-in-one achievers more than $100 for a framed certificate?
