  1. I always start with 3 balls in my pocket. If walking with my carry bag, then an additional 3-4; if using my push cart or riding, an additional 6-9 (plus any foundlings).
  2. I'm just sittin' here trying not to be too jealous!
  3. Obviously, it depends on how high the chances of rain are . . . But, if 0% and no/light wind, I’m perfectly happy walking my round in the 40s-50s. I like the 70s as well but I don’t like weather hanging over my head like the sword of Damocles.
  4. A damp and cool 36° morning. May have to opt for bowling instead of golf. I have developed a fairly wicked pull on my first tee shot of the round regardless of whether or not I’ve hit some balls on the range. First shot on the front 9 is usually 6 or 7 iron. According to Shot Scope yesterday’s 6 iron was 210 yds (very funny, SS, but I ain’t buying it — you had me on the wrong tee box). Need to find a way to get over that. On the upside, the pulled driver seems to have calmed down a bit — a few more yards and more FIR. Will be interesting to see if the Terra Forza shaft test has much impact. Hope everyone struggling with loss, health issues, and life challenges finds a way through to peace and positive outcomes.
  5. It's an okay morning here in the Mitten state -- rain last night, more after about 4:00 p.m., and Friday-Sunday look to be borderline, at best. But, we'll find ways to stay amused. Walked my first 18 of the season yesterday at the sister course of where I usually play. Started out miserably but ended up playing okay. Driver was averaging 5-10 yards longer than usual but iron play was inconsistent. And don't get me started on my putting. I'll get 9-holes in today at my home course today to see about getting a better handle on irons/putter. Before that, however, getting an estimate on redoing one of the bathrooms -- yanking tub and installing walk-in shower. Can't possibly run more than about $1,000.00 -- right? Have a great day, y'all!
  6. I used the first generation of Arccos but they were terribly inconsistent so stopped. Used Swing U much of last season which had, for me, a fairly steep learning curve, but provided very interesting SG data that showed I was better at some things (e.g., sand shots) but much worse at others (e.g., approach shots) than I thought -- very useful but the app is still complicated for me to use correctly and consistently. Just received a new Shot Scope V5 and one of the sensors promptly broke (head twisted off leaving post embedded in the grip). Waiting for a replacement but still trying to remove the post. Will see how it goes.
  7. Got hit by one in Texas years ago. Scary while happening but the recovery can be incredibly stressful, especially for young ones. Glad everyone is okay and hope the clean up/rebuild goes well.
  8. Finally got the Trackman data from my fitting session last week. The number that jumped out the most to me was the angle of attack. Over all the swings with my stock driver shaft and the two Terra Forza shafts, my AoA averaged just over +1.1° (had a one of -0.3° and two at -0.7°). In my head, I'm swinging more up than that. Hmmm. The fitter is putting me into the Orange shaft -- the one that had the tightest dispersion for me but not the longest distance. I also got a cryptic notice from UPS that a package is coming sometime next week. I'm assuming it is the TF shaft since all our other recent purchases/packages are accounted for. Looking forward to giving it a go on the indoor sim at my course (Uneekor) and the outdoor monitor (Trackman) at a range down the road before going to the course with it (I'm already behind in skins totals for the year with my buddies and can't afford to fall farther behind).
  9. Good morning, y'all! Cloudy all day with a high of 45°. Hadn't planned on playing since the local university is winding down its semester and the students will be out in force. Truth be told, I don't usually play often on Saturdays because of the large number of yahoo golfers we seem to get who only seem interested in drinking and doing stupid things in golf carts. [Insert you favorite "Get off my lawn" meme here.] Tomorrow, however . . .
  10. I know what you mean. I hadn't started to play when I worked in Wichita Falls (1977-1981) but knew people who did. Those winds would have been difficult!
  11. I'm right there with you. Just got back in. The only time the wind was a big factor was, of course, on my approach shot on the last hole. Big gust of wind in back swing that I couldn't stop and resultant chunk into the water. Didn't ruin a good round -- just aggravated a mediocre one. Oh, well. Maybe Sunday's round will be calmer.
  12. I’m really interested in how the Mindset affects your approach to each shot — do you go all Jason-Day-3-step process even if the Mindset logo isn’t visible?
  13. Hope everything goes well and you are back in the sun soon!
  14. Good morning! More rain last night but looking better this morning. High temp going to be in the 50s but sunny. And windy. I used to play a lot with a single-figure hcp who would not play if the winds got above about 15 mpn ("Even the pros won't play or practice in this wind!"). Got to thinking about that this morning and wondering how y'all feel about it. What is your wind cutoff, either sustained or gusts? Have great day and fantastic weekend!
  15. Just beat the rain to get in 9-holes. When posting the score I looked at my history and 7 of the 8 scores being used for HI are from 2023. Today's might make the 2nd one used from 2024. On the upside, I talked myself out of the one "hero shot" I could have tried today.
  16. I think numbers HI will be much more volatile early this year. Due to the April 1-October 31 season here some of my 2023 rounds are still being used. Once those are off the books I’ll have a clearer sense of where I stand and how things are going. And I have to remember that I told myself no “hero shots” this year — broke that rule the 2nd time out.
  17. Good morning, y’all! A mixed bag this Thursday morning. Cloudy and cool with rain possible this afternoon and — say it ain’t so! — snow flakes this weekend! Playing earlier than usual today to beat the rain but hoping not to rush myself. Got a new Shot Scope V5 hoping to get more detail about my game with shot tracking. However the first sensor I tried to insert twisted apart leaving the post embedded in the grip. Tried to get it out with pliers but the top of the post just shredded leaving the rest still stuck. SS is sending a replacement but I’m a bit leery of trying the others. The new GHIN handicap numbers are interesting. I play a lot of 9-hole rounds with my older friends so I know that the old system of pairing 9-hole rounds often resulted in an artificially low number, but WOW! The new system has caused my hcp to jump 1.5 strokes already and my season only started on April 1. And, yes, I have played very poorly, but still. It makes my goal of lowering hcp by a full stroke this year seem a bit more challenging. Happy birthday, @GolfSpy SAM! have a great day, everyone.
  18. Wowser, what an adventure! And I thought my drive was going to be a bad one. Glad you made it down/back safely (and found your wallet). Hope Mark made it through the storm as well. Looking forward to hearing about the actual Terra Forza fitting experience.
  19. You’d be forgiven for thinking she’s had a hard day if you didn’t know there was a small bowl of Wheat Thins just out of the frame.
  20. In my fitting the pressure plates were used to get the algorithm's recommendations but not when testing the two TF shafts I hit. It will be interesting to hear from others if the same process was used.
  21. Good morning, y'all! Looks to be another nice day in central Michigan before the weather turns progressively colder and wetter for the rest of the week. I understand CBS has another "Heidi" incident on its hands because of coverage of the Masters. I don't quite understand the sequence but apparently the network got into its Billy Joel concert programming late and cut away from it in the middle of "Piano Man"! Yesterday was lovely -- and frustrating. Gorgeous day on the golf course -- but absolutely abysmal play on my part. First round with new Shot Scope V5 -- but 1st club sensor I tried to insert twisted apart leaving part of the sensor post stuck in the grip (SS has already replied and replacements on the way). Lawn tractor wouldn't start -- but it was just low battery so got it started and took the tips of the lawn. I hope everyone has a great day at work, home and.or on the course!
  22. Looks to be a beautiful day here in the middle-of-the-Mitten. A bit breezy but near 70° and sunny. Maybe time to break out the shorts (and the accompanying OB stakes. On the downside, however, lawn tractor wouldn’t start this morning (hoping it’s only low battery), and the funny pages are looking too much like my life some days.
