  1. Good morning all...after a couple of full days of work friday and yesterday some sunshine and golf are in the forecast for later today after church. SWMBO is having a wimmens meeting at our house tomorrow night so there were a million things on the to do list before the big event. I busted thru it yesterday so i would have some free time today. Then i hid the list so no overtime additions could be sneaked on to it. There will be some TM P-7CB comparison info to post later tonight. Have a great day!
  2. Thats the way i looked at it also. I think it depends on the stock options and your swing. When doing the TM fitting recently none of the stock options in graphite worked well for me. Probably because there were no 100g and up to choose from. If i needed graphite due to arm pain or something I would have to get an upgrade graphite shaft to get that weight. I dont mind playing a steel shaft and found a stock one that looks promising.
  3. I played at the Elkridge Club in Baltimore today as a practice round for a upcoming Sr. tournament. It is the first time I played there and it will definitely help. There are a lot of elevation changes that make a club or even two difference. It was good to see that as a preview. I played the back tees and shot an 80. I stayed out of trouble off the tee but lost a few approach shots with mis-clubbing and missed on the wrong side of the green. Knowing those things I feel I can improve on that score. The greens were about as fast as the backyard green so practicing at home should work out well for getting the pace correct.
  4. A second weak spot just above the rip. The other end of the net seems in better shape.
  5. I took the 5, 6 & 7 irons out to the pole barn for a net session this morning to work on my swing. Things smoothed out with the swing sequence and i am finding the sweet spot with the 7 so i switch to the 6. The first 5 or so balls are pretty good, i nut the 6th and the net doesnt flex?!?!? And i hear some noise from the trees beyond the door! I check the net closely and see a torn spot. Time to quit! Later today i will flip the net from end to end so there is a fresh impact zone to abuse. The net is about 4-1/2 years old and that impact zone spot does get exposed to the sun since i dont always close the doors. Anyway i may get to the course later today to hit some long irons. Hopefully some good swings and contact will give me good comparison data to the gamers.
  6. Way to go @BIG STU !! Alert the mods....we need a new user name.... maybe "1 Size Less Than Big Stu" Or is that too long?
  7. I have not had any hot flier shots. Carry distance for 8, 9 & Aw have been clustered long to short. I need more data for the 5, 6 & 7 with good swings.
  8. The progression measurement is consistent and I don't think it is realistic with my equipment to measure down to the 1/2 degree difference they have in lie angle's. Based on the ball flight, whatever the lie angle number is for the 8,9 & Aw it matches what I need that's for sure!
  9. I feel the P-7CB's were all very close to their spec. My old equipment has not been calibrated so my machine could be off a couple degrees from actual. But what I do expect is the repeatability and consistency of the data it supplies. For example I measured the 9i at 39*, the spec loft is 41*, mine are 1* strong so they should be 40*. My machine could easily be off 1*. The measurements of the other irons were consistent with the 9i measurement showing 1 - 2 degrees less loft than the spec + my 1* strong. This was also the case for the lie angle measurements compared to the spec #'s.
  10. I got out to play the first 9 with the P-7CB's this afternoon!! I played my own ball and dropped a ball to hit from where SWMBO hit her drive to get an additional swing with a different club. In general the 8,9 & AW were flush contact and dead on target. High trajectory, slight fade, landed and stayed within 3' of the ball mark. Playing my ball, I had an approach shot with each of those clubs land within 8' from the pin and made the birdie putts. The ball flight was noticeably higher than the Mizuno's, yardage was about 5 yards less. The Mizuno spec lofts are 2* stronger than the P-7CB's and I had the P-7CB's set up 1* strong. The 5 yard less distance is in line with the 1 to 1.5* more loft I measured on the P-7CB's vs. the JPX900's. The 5, 6 & 7 irons were not as good for me today but i was not making good contact. Toe side or thin misses that were left and short of the target. I only had 2 shots with the 7i and both were on the first two holes when I wasn't really loose at all. I had gone right from the car to the tee to get ahead of a foursome so I discount those 7i misses. I had quite a few 5 & 6 iron shots from the spousal units tee shot locations and all were thin or toey. This is after I was loose so I need to figure out what I was doing there. I had one flush 5i, a tee ball on a short par 4. I am very encouraged by the 8,9,A pin seeking ball flight. I don't care about the yardage difference, as long as that is consistent I will know what club to pull for X yardage. Outside of the P-7CB performance, the extra putting sessions I have been doing are making a difference. I had 13 putts, all on line and all first putt misses left tap in's. Getting a routine and sticking to it has helped my consistency. One downer is that I couldnt get my Mevo to give any good readings today. I was hoping last nights issues were because of it being indoors and limited ball flight to the net. But today was worse with it not even registering most of the shots. The ones it did 'see' were off by about 15 yards. I need to get that back to working.
  11. There have been a couple at different stages of my golf life... Waaaaay back it was a Powerbuilt Citation persimmon driver. Cant tell you loft or anything since it only had a '1' on the sole plate! With a DG X stiff shaft in it it worked great for many years with my heavily influenced baseball swing. Until the head cracked. More recent was the Ping G10 with a Prolaunch Red shaft. Played that successfully for many years. Moved to a Ping G410 then a Sub70 849 Pro in 9* which were fine until i needed more loft with declining SS. Now its a Ping G410 LST 10.5* / Hzrdus 6.5 shaft combo that is extremely reliable. I am not even looking to experiment, which says a lot!
  12. I spent some time hitting the P-7CB 8i into the net this evening. The feel was very familiar, balanced - not head heavy or too light that i cant feel it. It was easy to find the sweet spot. I was making solid contact but i dont have any numbers to share. The Mevo was not cooperating. The data was all over the place from 112 to 141 yards on similar contact quality. I tried a lot of adjustments over an hour but could not get it dialed in. I will try the mevo outside at the range this week and see if it works any better. I hope to get on the course tomorrow if the weather cooperates.
  13. Good morning....another cloudy day on tap with spots of drizzly rain.....unless the weather guessers are incorrect. THis is 5 or 6 days in a row like this. The other side of the Bay has been getting a lot more rain out of this weather pattern than us. Last Thurs I called for a practice round tee time over there for this week and the day I called the course was closed and they were going to be day to day after getting 5" of rain in a couple days. We had less than 1" in that time period. I will call them today and see what its like this week. Three small projects today, I hope to be done by 3.
  14. When it comes to putters.... If @EasyPutter is out then...... @cnosil......you're up!!
  15. After receiving a surprise package on Friday..... The box arrived intact with no crumpled edges, good job FedEx! Time for the Unboxing.... Taylormade packaging is very good with foam dividers in the box trapping both the iron heads as well as the shafts. This keeps the irons locked in place, no bag chatter during shipment is possible. I like the look of the clubs which is very clean and classic. There is no extra plastic inserts or bright coloring on the back of the club heads. Just the satin finish of the metal and black lettering giving a simple, all business appearance. The overall look, size and shape is very close to what I am currently using, the Mizuno JPX 900 Forged. Right away I notice the top line and offset is very familiar looking. Measuring with calipers, there is a 0.1cm difference in the width of the top line with the P-7CB (on top) being slightly narrower. Turning it over, the sole of the P-7CB (on bottom) is also a little narrower than the JPX900, Measuring a 0.3cm difference. I used my decades old Golfsmith loft and lie machine and GolfWorks swingweight scale to check the specs. My L & L machine has never been calibrated so when using it I don’t expect to get identical numbers as the factory but I do expect the relative difference between clubs to measure uniformly. For example if the factory spec is 63* lie angle for an 8i and my machine measures 61*, I expect my measurement for all the clubs to be 2* less than the factory spec for those clubs. For the number crunchers, here is a comparison of the loft, lie swingweight and length between the P-7CB’s and the JPX900’s. There is not much of a difference so there shouldn’t be a big adjustment in looks or feel going from the gamers to the P-7CB’s. We will see how the performance compares over the next few weeks. After a few swings in the pole barn into the net (more rain today) with the 8i I can't wait to get to the course and see what the shots look like!
