  1. I have a Garmin S12 and S20. Both are easy to use and good for getting basic yardages, which is just fine for on-the-course use. But their app is pretty basic and I'd like something more more advanced stats tracking.
  2. Golf Galaxy. And logged in with my Dick’s account.
  3. Code worked for me, just ordered 4 dozen! thanks @Tony Covey MGSfor sorting that out
  4. Related to golf apps, I have a couple questions about 'strokes gained'. 1. Are there any apps that track strokes gained without costing a fortune? I'm a cheapskate at heart and I'm not paying $19.99 a month for an app. 2. Do you get benefit out of knowing your stokes gained numbers? I currently use the Garmin app and it gives you pretty rudimentary strokes gained for driving, approach, and chipping. But I pretty much already know whether I'm driving it well or not and I know that iron play is my strength and short game is my weakness. So would I get any benefit out of it?
  5. mScorecard is a good one that doesn't get mentioned a lot. It has the GPS but you don't have to use it. You can use it to just track your scores and basic stats like fairways, greens, putts, etc. There are both iOS and Android apps, but if you use the website, it has even more capabilities.
  6. Reporting back after my trip... that was a great experience, wish I could do it all the time! I only used a caddy for the one round, considering it added about $200 to the cost of an already expensive round of golf. The main benefit was reading the greens, this guy was spot on every time. I didn't always hit the line that he pointed out, but I was always close to the hole. There were a couple times where my own read would have been way off. And it was really helpful for the downhill ones when he'd say 'hit this at 40%' or whatever. As far as off the tee or approach shots, he didn't recommend specific clubs (other than driver), but was very helpful in picking out what line to aim on and getting yardages, factoring wind and elevation.
  7. Not an easy issue to solve at a public course unfortunately. Playing ready golf, there’s no reason it should take more than 4 hours, even if you’re shooting 120 (ask my wife). The biggest problem I notice is where twosomes in a cart are tethered to each other. They both sit there until the first person hits his shot, then they proceed to the other one’s ball. Rather than drop you off at your ball, I’ll go to mine, then we’ll meet up.
  8. Going on a golf trip to Pebble Beach next week, and for the first time ever in my life, I will be using a caddie for our round at Pebble (also playing Spyglass and Spanish Bay). I want to avoid any faux pas and awkwardness. Any advice (besides tipping well)?
  9. Everyone is different, but for me it’s about a 1.5 wood. Just a few yards shorter than driver and 15-20 longer than 3 wood. the thing I like the best about it is I don’t feel like I need a different setup or swing with it, like I do with a big headed driver. Have been reunited with my 300 mini for a few weeks now and am driving it better than ever.
  10. Thanks for the info. Currently have a Garmin watch, but exploring my options for when that dies.
  11. I’d say you are the exact target audience for this club. I always hit my 3 wood better than driver too, and am not good at hitting up on the ball. But with this club, I tee it on the low side, normal ball position, and I’ve never driven it better. Distance is about the same as full sized driver for me.
  12. But my question is, is the yardage displayed on the watch the distance from the green to your watch, or the green to your phone? My daughter was trying this out yesterday and was skeptical of some of the numbers she was getting.
  13. Easier than it looks at first, but you need a perfect lie. I’ve only ever attempted it a couple times.
  14. Question for Apple Watch users - if you use an app like 18birdies or the Grint from your phone, does it get the GPS info from your phone? Meaning you’d have to keep your phone in your pocket and not in your bag/cart?
  15. I'm with you. I played the 300 mini for about a year and a half and I had some of my best consistent driving. Unfortunately, early this spring the face cracked. And this was before the BRNR mini came out. I refused to pay the high price that used 300 minis were going for, so I tried to make a go of it this season with a full-sized driver. I've had some good streaks with it, but also some runs of inconsistent driving. I recently found a reasonably priced used 300 mini on eBay and pulled the trigger. Just got it last week. So happy to be reunited!
