  1. Been tinkering with clubs all year. Currently: Mavrik max 9deg driver with hzrdus smoke black 70s Mavrik 3+w evenflo 60s Mavrik 5w aldil rogue white 130msi 70S Mizuno jpx919 hot metal 4-9, pw, gw, sw Callaway sureout 2 60 deg lw Oddessy triple track 7 putter
  2. Amazon essentials men's straight fit stretch golf pants, $22 . Just as knice as izod pants in same style, a little heavier fabric, I like these so much I wear them to work everyday. I have been playing a lot of cold weather golf , just wear some tsla base layer, and these Amazon pants, a tsla base layer shirt, and fleece lined stretch mid layer and a callaway lightweight windbreaker jacket. Have not been cold yet. Plus I look good. Always wear grey pants. White black or grey shoes, I rotate them, black or blue TSLA fleece lined 1/4 zip mock turle. Black or grey windbreaker, black or white callaway hat, black fotjoy or callaway winter gloves.
  3. So far, but I am fickle and love to tinker with equipment and swing. I really want to convert my great grand dads workbench into a club building station. I think all I really need a head pulling setup and a vice adapter.
  4. I recently added 2 fairway woods to my bag. Never played them before this past fall. I absolutely love my mavrik 5w with the rogue white 130msi 70S shaft. I can shape it. And it is a rocket. If I really attack ball with steep swing I can launch a 200 yard sky bomb. With a more even swing plane I get a beautiful trajectory with 220-230 yards with nice fade or slight draw. But what I really love about this club, if I put ball little bag in stance, aim a little right and close my grip, I can hit a crushing line drive draw that is a total rocket. I hit one today on a dog leg left, about 180 to a fairly tight left turn and downhill. I hit a screamer down left side about 20' high 10' or so from tree guarding corner of turn. This shot started turning in almost perfect spot. It just flew down left side of fairway. I was shocked and pleased when I rolled up on an 80yd wedge to green. Fairways where hard because of cold, but I think it rolled out to like 270 or 280. Now I am not saying this is a 270yard club, more like 220-230, but point is this club head and shaft is very workable. Its feels really small but so easy to swing and make strong contact. I also have the mavrik strong 3+. It has the hzrdus evnflo 60 S shaft. I hit this ok, but no where near as consistent as 5w. Maybe its the shaft , idk. I was thinking today, for me, for scoring, I might be better off leaving driver in truck and picking up a callaway 7w or the heavenwood. ( I think its a 9 or 11w) Before I drop 3+wood I think I will try a new shaft. Not unhappy with mavrik max driver either, but I cannot work that as well. I can get real long bombsout to 270 with a fade, but I am not confident in my ability to put it where I want it like I can with irons or 5w. I carry 13 clubs now, 5-9, pw, gp, sw and lw, mavrik max driver, mavrik 3+, mavrik 5w and putter. I can add another club and remain legal or drop driver and add 2. I do have a gap between 5w 220, and 5i like 190, I was thinking 4i, but 7w might be better. I could sell driver and get 7w with some change. Probable silly, but I have always felt a reluctance to play l a hybrid. To be honest I actually hate the look of a hybrid at address. Seams like a gimmick to me.... sorry for so many words.
  5. I have been a loyal callaway guy for 20 years. My first new set was a 3-PW steelhead x14 with stock callaway shafts circa 2001 or so Since then i have played callaway diablo edge r irons, circa 2010, callaway rogue irons cf 18 and finally callaway mavrik max. To be perfectly honest I sold the rogues for a small profit bought the mavrik max and jpx919 almost at same time. I played about 6 rounds with mavriks and then the jpx finally came in 3 days ago. I played 9 holes twice and 18 today. So here are my observations. The rogues where forgiving but launch was was too high, ( i actually have a set of project x 6.5 steel shafts to correct that high launch) The mavriks max are very forgiving and long, but elevate shafts also launch too high and my dispersion was not what I would like. I also could not really have enough feel to shape any shots. So now on to the Mizunos. 1st off, I freaking love these clubs not only do they look really clean. They are so smooth. They have the true tempure tour new concept x1 shafts. My dispersion is waaay tighter. The trajectory is lower but distance is about the same as rogues. They just feel so much smother through impact, a pure shot feels like effortless. The fat shots still carry straight, but it feels like the soles just glide through the turf. Blades do somehow feel shorter and longer where the Mavrik max feels chunky by comparison. Another added benefit is I have been able to work a little fade or draw into my approach shots. Today I was 5w off tee about 230 down left side of dog leg left. I turned that drive beautifully, low piercing draw that turned around dog leg like I was steering it. It did turn just a touch too much so I was on left side of fairway with a small elevated green about 180yards out on right side of fairway, protected by an ugly little bunker on left front and with some oak trees back there too. There was also a bunker on front right but for whatever reason it did not scare me. Apron sloped away on back right and left a nice grassy landing area. Before the mizunos I would have tried to hit a high fade toward left tress and try to stick green , 9-10 i would be in trap on right or in grass to right of green. I was all alone on course today. It was pretty cold really windy with some light snow blowing around. So I was in total evaluate and practice mode. Today I aimed for right bunker, turned my grip, and moved ball back in Stance a bit. 1st attempt dead pull rocket deep into oaks on left side. Actually bounced out, but I did not know it from 180 out. 2 nd shot beautiful trajectory heading right at pin but faded against wind to behind bunker on right side a little short of pin almost into back of bunker 3rd attempt. Same setup, just closed my grip a little more. Hit ball towards right bunker with just enough draw to land on apron 6" off green pin high on right side. Best shot of day just because of the wind and the purposeful shot shaping. Love these irons. Now I am not a purest. I play by myself allot, and as long as I am not holding anyone up. I often play multiple shots till I get it right, not always, but some shots I know or think I can make i will make a few attempts. On a few approaches today, I hit shots that should have reached but did not due cold and wind or just a fat shot, so i practice hitting next club down or changing to a lower line drive. I really enjoy this kind of practice so much more then the range or simulator. Now simulator has its place i am sure, but for me nothing is better then practicing on a golf course. I do try to keep score on first ball struck, but I really do not care about score as much as I do the improving. I am by ready golf rules when playing with someone else and do not take liberties. Anyway, really loving mizuno jpx919 hot metals and the true tempur new concept tour x1 shafts. I am really itching to try those project x 6.5's I have sitting here here, maybe I put them on mavrik max irons.
  6. I have a couple leftover hzrdyus smoke black driver shafts left over. 1 is a 60g 6.0 Stiif shaft that on of my employees snapped of my driver when shutting tailgate of my truck. I timed about 1.25;@" or so off shaft and sanded it smooth and epoxies a new callaway opti fit adapter to it. It ended up being 1.25" short, so I used it as a test to see if shorter shaft would help with better accuracy. It did not. So I also have a same shaft in a 70g 6.5 dull driver length. I want to use same grips on my driver 3 and 5 wood so at least need to regrip. All three shafts. The mavrik 3+ wood has project x evwnflo 6.0 60g , the 5 wood has the rogue white 130 msi 70s. My plan was to use the two hzrdus smoke driver shafts I have and cut down to use in the fairway woods. But after typing all this out, I am realizing I absolutely hit my mavrik 5 wood best out of all three. Way more consistent. So maybe I should be ordering some rogue white shafts for 3+ and mavrik driver. Not sure what to do now. I do want lower trajectory for all three so maybe I will try the hzrdus smokes. Now finally the question. When I cut driver shafts to go with fairway woods should I be cutting both the tip and but or just the butt?
