  1. Second this. Both are just proxies for distance to me, and I'm one step away from just writing a distance on some painters tape and sticking it to the club .
  2. Checking in with the other testers and players in this thread: @Fongle How does the availability of multiplayer lobbies look in your time zone? Is it a ghost town or do you have a selection of lobbies to play in? @GregGarner Not to tip your hand on your final review, but any major UI/UX faux pas in the GOLF+ interface or controller layout? @JFish350 Did you figure out how to record and share your shots? Any shots of note (good or bad) over the past week? @GolfSpy SAM Have you been playing with the "flatness" of your putter any more? If so, have you noticed any improvements?
  3. One damper to my play - I had my gallbladder removed last week and my activity is limited for a bit. Fortunately, I can still putt and if I crank the swing assist WAY up, I can still play. Just don't tell my doctor! Seriously though, it's really nice to be able to play virtually since a real round is out of the question for at least the next three weeks. An unexpected use case, but happy to be nothing if not thorough in my testing.
  4. Some of the players on here are incredible. I've noticed more insane scores on daily tournaments for more iconic courses - Sawgrass, Pebble, Scottsdale - because I think those skilled players probably play there most frequently. Then when the daily tournament roles around with their favorite course, they absolutely crush it. Good on you for not letting it discourage you - keep at it!
  5. I was also topping the balls my first outting after heavy VR use, but found my out-to-in path to be even worse. I’ve since picked up this drill as part of my pre-round warm up and it’s helped immensely to shake off the VR tendencies.
  6. Bummer! Were you able to warm up at a range at all before the round or did you jump straight in cold?
  7. Fiberbuilt Golf 5'x4' Hourglass Pro Studio Mat Kit at Amazon for 27% off MSRP of $799 ($581.91). Lowest price ever according to Camelcamelcamel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09JBKVTQ9
  8. Another point that @GolfSpy SAM pointed out during our last multiplayer game - playing the course in VR can bring a new appreciation for the tour courses each week. I often hear commentators say things like "this should be a really straight forward shot for him" and might scoff a bit when there is a bad shot. Then you get out on to the virtual course and NOTHING seems like a gimme. Much like fantasty football, playing along with the pros really brings the spectating experience to a whole new level.
  9. Another tournament shot from the other day: near condor at Wolf Creek from the red tees with 20+ MPH winds. I managed to break 70 this round and had a few eagles. Really fun course that I'd love to see in person some day!
  10. As far as I can see, you can only unsync from your device and have to delete content from the headset itself. To me, this seems like an intentional poor UX towards an outcome of keeping all user-recorded content. For what end, I can only speculate.
  11. I've tried a few methods and for individual shots, I recommend recording using Meta's built-in camera app. Then download to your local device, trim (as necessary), and upload to MGS directly or YouTube. I had concerns about eating too much of my attachment size alotment on the forums, so I went the YouTube route. For recording full rounds, you'll need to record to an external device via OBS or prepare to have a bad time.
  12. Played a round at the East Lake Golf Club this weekend with @GolfSpy SAMas practice for the weekly tournament. I had a near ace (we're talking within 2 inches) on the 9th but the replay didn't save in my profile. Oh well! Two of my best shots last week: a 259 yard recovery from the pinestraw at Pinehurst #2 (+1.889 SG) and a 290 yard near albatross at East Lake (+1.543 SG)
  13. I’ve been upgraded to Silver 1 in pro to match my amateur tournament status, and got these cool stats in my inbox today: I’ll have to see what additional information is available on the website, and I’m loving the data-rich approach here. One thing I noticed this week is that my scores are greatly influenced by tee position, but not much by hole difficulty or wind speed. I’ll pay closer attention in the tournament this week and see if I can’t improve my scores going for Gold rank.
  14. Ah yes, a fellow former phpBB user! We recognize each other by the smell of our shared tears. I think unless storage costs or username parking is a concern, it's probably better to keep the accounts dormant but present. As someone who took a year off from the forum, it was nice to dust off my account rather than start from scratch.
  15. Fantastic info in here for new members and old hats alike! Throwing this out into the universe for a future April fools (or legit) test - with the amount of DIY tools being used for non-intended golf purposes, it feels like we could have a test sponsored by Home Depot. Regrip your golf clubs with a Ryobi air compressor, see whats in your golf balls with a Milwaukee compact pipe cutter, or repurpose some EMT conduit as a hitting net frame.
  16. I have to admit, I had a lot more fun this season than I thought I would. Thanks for running this @GolfSpy_APH and @GolfSpy SAM! For the major week wins, @Fairwayguy2 and I tied during the PGA Championship, including the total value earned tiebreaker since we had identical lineups. Do we both take the W for that week or do we need to roshambo?
  17. One more question for @GOLF PLUS VR - Are there any plans to add the new non-colored TP5/TP5x stripe balls as an option in-game?
  18. For what it’s worth - You can still play the courses through quick play or in tournaments, or join any multiplayer game on the course you like. You just can’t start a solo or multiplayer game on a specific course you don’t own. It seems like a reasonable middle ground to keep from fully gating the courses behind DLC. If there’s a course you REALLY want unfettered access to, you can do that or do a subscription for access to all courses.
  19. Had a +20 on Sunday when playing from the tips, but +5 when playing from the whites yesterday. These courses are LONG and the tee position clearly affects my score. Here was a near birdie flag hit on the 15th at Quail Hollow yesterday:
  20. Just to be clear, the purchased long clubs show +5 yards longer than the default Epic Speed clubs in-game, and the lower lofted wedges show that they fly 10 yards shorter. Are the in-game yardages correct or is it truly all cosmetic and the listed distances have typos? Having said that, I did some testing in the driving range with the mallet (pink balls) and the blade (white balls). I hit 5 balls with one, then switched and hit 5 balls with the other and had this result: I tried the same thing again with shorter strokes, and had this result: Looks like it is psychological, but it does have an effect for me in game with the mallet running a little longer than the blade. Interesting!
  21. I’ll be adding these to the bag. I LOVE the alignment aid but hate how the colored stripe can make it tricky to find your ball on the course (will it look colored, white, or split?) Immensely excited for these!
  22. Interesting claim. I started playing better after I was fit without an additional lesson. Why do you think that is if not for the fitting? Yeah, I expect to have to be fit again as my swing changes. You fit to a swing, not to a person. It genuinely sounds like you're saying that fitting does matter, at least for grip size. And that you hit better after making an equipment only change. I'm not sure that you've got a consistent narrative that equipment doesn't matter here.
  23. I switched to Pro mode for this week's tournament and was immediately humbled to see my aim issues in full display. I hit something like +20 and +16 on the first two daily rounds and had some unusual struggled with my greenside game and putting. Fortunately, those look like decent scores in Bronze 1 league and ranked in the 20's. I made changes to my virtual wedges and putter: For the wedges, I dropped two degrees on both the lob and sand wedges to try and address leaving all of my chips ~10 yards short. For the putter, I switch from a two ball mallet to a blade with three alignment lines. I liked the alignment aid for the mallet, but found the ball to fly off the putter much faster than I expected. I don't know if the game accounts for the different physics there, but my distance control is much better with the blade now. @GOLF PLUS VR can you comment on whether the mallet and blade putters have different performance physics in game, or if my performance change was just mental? I also now choke up almost the entire way on the physical grip on the controller when putting and the balance is much better. Yesterday's tournament course was TPC Sawgrass from the red's with 20+ mph wind (which made the 17th particularly nerve-racking). After making the changes and doing a full practice round, I finished a much improved +5. I'll keep the current setup to see if the improvements stick around but I'm much happier with my play.
  24. I can appreciate that your experience is that 30 handicap players don't see a benefit from a fitting. As someone who was fitted as a 30ish handicap player, your opinion doesn't match what I experienced. Did I take lessons from a golf pro prior to be fitted? Yes. Did they adjust my feet? Yes. Did it help? Yes. Did it lower my handicap by 5? No, but I understand the point that one needs some basic swing concepts before getting fit for clubs. Did getting fit for clubs make everything I learned during my lessons easier? Absolutely - I no longer felt like I was fighting my clubs, much like a runner finally wearing the correct shoe size. Getting fit made playing a more enjoyable experience and kept me playing. In that sense, it's been the single best thing to lower my handicap. I'm sorry to hear that fitting hasn't improved anything for you. Perhaps as a silver lining, poor fitting experiences might help keep you from joining the CHA Club? We're always welcoming new members over there though!
  25. Just to clarify, you and I agree. I disagreed with Tsecor's claim that fittings were a waste for anyone above a 10 handicap. I was fit when I was first getting my feet underneath me (and probably close to a 30 handicap) and it helped immensely. It's an expense for sure, but it's well worth it!
