  1. Sometimes I don't like this stat. I think driver on par 5s is definitely the play because your second shot is most likely going to be a wood, hybrid, long iron. But I play some courses where I can hit driver off the tee but it wouldn't be beneficial to do so (yardage, lie, etc) and it also assumes that the person is hitting their driver straight.
  2. I think it's worth bringing your driver and wood and going to test the mini driver to look at the numbers and see where it would fit. If you have less than 14 clubs in your bag then maybe it's an easy decision to make but if you have a full bag I think your average golfer would be hard pressed to justify getting rid of a club for a mini driver. As an alternative, I know callaway makes one, and I'm sure other companies make them as well, but there are 3+ woods, they're 3 woods that are stronger lofted and with the 3 wood size they would also probably be easier to hit off the deck than a mini driver.
  3. Golf Sidekick has done a few similar videos, definitely interesting to see. He's done it both ways: play off the professional player's drive or play off the professional player's approach shots. It seems like the largest difference between a professional/tour player and an amateur is their accuracy with irons and wedges.
  4. I'd say my top 3 would probably be: TXG. Golf Sidekick, and Rick Shiels. I do like Mark Crossfield and Peter Finch too but sometimes they are more hit or miss for me. Anyone else not a fan of these 40+ min youtube videos though? I feel like I either tune them out halfway through or I just find myself skipping around a lot.
  5. Awesome set up, how do the Miuras feel and did you get fitted for them?
  6. Love the Mizuno blue, just curious, what putter did you have prior to the OMOI? I loved testing that one out in the store, but like you, I couldn't justify the price tag. How does it perform out on the course?
  7. The Maxfli balls are great! I bought a 4 dozen pack around September or October for around $90 as the local Dick's was having a sale. Whenever my golfing friends ask for ball recommendations I point them to the tour line as they are premium performance without the premium cost. It's hard to justify buying a dozen ProV1s now that they're $55/dozen.
  8. That is a bizarre situation. What irons were you gaming before the G425s and what was the shaft you got fitted for? The Takomo 101Ts are higher lofted than the 425s too, so based on loft alone the 425s should be giving you at least some more distance. Were you able to see the yardages while you were getting fit? I've never been to CC but when my local fitter fit me for my irons he also gave me a print out with my 7i distance as well as all the clubs I tried in my fit. To answer your original question, I'm happy with my fit and the process, it was no pressure, they went over the scheduled fitting time, and didn't push me towards one brand or another.
  9. I think it depends, if you have a group in carts and the riders are spraying the ball all over the place and away from each other then they're riding the cart all across the fairway in zigzags. But ultimately the pace of players all depends on the group in front of them.
  10. I'd say most of the rounds I play I walk (push cart). I play in New England so I enjoy walking from March to June/July and again in late September to November. The group of friends I play with are typically riders but we all agreed that for this season we would play walking rounds until around July when it gets too hot to walk.
  11. Edit: Forgot to include my bag. I am using the Ping Hoofer lite. I like it, the pockets are easily accessible, it is light enough to carry and also fits nicely on a push cart. My biggest complaint is that the clubs snag a lot.
  12. Scroll to end for TLDR. Driver:Cobra Speedzone Xtreme 9deg turned to 10deg with Hzrdus Smoke Yellow 60g stiff shaft (not fitted) I bought this driver about two years ago, I think around the time the RadSpeed came out. My prior driver was a Callaway X-hot with a regular shaft. I was finding that even though I am on the cusp of regular vs stiff the regular shafts were just too noticably whippy for me. I did some research into the shaft and the driver and they seemed like an appealing combo and I've been gaming it ever since. I was considering upgraded but none of the new driver numbers had really blown me away to the point where I would seriously considering upgrading. I have been enjoying the driver and if I had one knock on it, it can be really loud depending on what kind of ball I am using, and especially with range balls. 3 Wood: Cobra Ltdx 15deg with Hzrdus Smoke iM10 (mid spin) 60g stiff shaft (not fitted) I bought this 3wood last season upgrading from a TaylorMade Burner. I did enjoy the Burner but I figured I would be able to get a little more juice out of a newer model so I used my stockpiled Amazon gift cards and went with the Ltdx. I love this club. At my home course I use this club off the tee on a lot of the par 4s as with my numbers and the course layouts it helps me set myself up for a better second shot and I can work the ball a lot better with my wood than my driver. It is also pretty easy (in my opinion) to hit off the deck so if I top a drive on a par 4 or need to get into a par 5 in two, I can do both of those with this club. 3 Hybrid: Mizuno CLK 19deg, standard hosel settings with Tenzei Blue 70g stiff shaft (not fitted) My prior hybrid gamer was a Cobra Baffler, which was ole reliable but I saw this club used and heavily discounted because of some wear of the paint. I am a big fan of this club, I am typically hitting my hybrids either off the tee or into the green on short enough approach shots or long par 3s into the green. I'm getting a lot more of a loftier shot with this club and it helps with hitting into the greens and not rolling off the back and I'm a fan of the heavy shaft, though my misses with this club go way right. Irons: Mizuno Pro 225 4-GW, Dynamic Gold 105g, R300 shafts (fitted) I bought these irons shortly after they were released after doing a lot of testing and research. My old gamers were a set of Ping G15s with stiff shafts and as I was building my bag I decided to treat myself(lol) and move towards a set of irons that I could grow with as a player. These were clubs I got fitted for (great experience), my three iron finalists were the MP225s, TaylorMade P790, and Callaway Apex DCB. During my fitting the P790s were immediately ruled out. The Apex and the 225s were near identical numbers for me, except the 225s flew a little lower than the Apex, so the decision came down to feel, and we all know the saying... I love these irons, they are forgiving, gave me about 7 more yards of distance, have good gapping, and feel fantastic. These are going to be in my bag for a long time. Wedges: Callaway Jaws MD5 Dynamic Gold 115g S200 54/10 and 58/10 (Callaway wedge selector) I went with the Callaway wedges because I found that the other wedges I was interested in (Vokey and Mizuno) just felt too heavy when I was swinging them. My old wedges were a mix of hand-me-downs and pre-owned finds and I was experimenting way too much with random wedges and inconsistent gapping. I'm a fan of these wedges, I use both of them for full shots, the 54 for half shots and chip shots, and I use the 58 out of the sand. Putter: Ping Anser 2023 My putting woes and experimentation have been plaguing me for the last two years, I tried blades, mallets, sabertooth, and something was missing in all of those. I decided to buy a blank putter with no alignment to fix my putting and build my confidence and when I felt good enough to buy a new one, Ping was the first that came to mind. I love this putter, it is nicely weighted with a carbon shaft and my off center strikes go just as straight and long as my center strikes, and as an added benefit, I am able to scoop the ball off the grass with the back of the putter. Misc: Ball: Currently alternating between Maxfli Tour and PXG, I tend to stay away from the PXG during windy conditions, but I am waiting on a sample box set of the new Snell line. Rangefinder: Precision Pro Nx7 Slope: Got it as a Black Friday deal and have been impressed, it is accurate and easy to read, some minor hiccups while using it, but overall it compares to other rangefinders I have used in the past. Headcovers: Had to include the headcovers to pay homage to my dogs, and sometimes you just gotta give them a pet for good luck or after a good shot. Gloves: just got a 4 pack of the Kirkland gloves and I have to say I am impressed. TLDR Version: Driver: Cobra Speedzone Xtreme 9deg turned to 10deg with Hzrdus Smoke Yellow 60g stiff shaft (not fitted) 3 Wood: Cobra Ltdx 15deg with Hzrdus Smoke iM10 (mid spin) 60g stiff shaft (not fitted) Hybrid: Mizuno CLK 19deg, standard hosel settings with Tenzei Blue 70g stiff shaft (not fitted) Irons: Mizuno Pro 225 4-GW, Dynamic Gold 105g, R300 shafts (fitted) Wedges: Callaway Jaws MD5 Dynamic Gold 115g S200 54/10 and 58/10 (Callaway wedge selector) Putter: Ping Anser 2023 Ball: PXG/Maxfli Tour
  13. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? Always had a set of clubs for most of my life, but started really playing frequently, building my bag, and actively trying to get better around two years ago now. What do you love about golf? Just being able to see myself improve and get out there and enjoy the weather with a group of friends or simply just block everything out for a few hours. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? First came to MGS to look at club reviews when I started building my own bag, now I have been following the club results and the ball lab/ball reviews over the years. Where are you from? What is your home course? Braintree, MA. A suburb just south of Boston. My home course is Braintree Municipal Golf Course, but I generally play all over the Southern MA area. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? The best is the affordability, many of the courses I play are typically under $50 for a weekend tee time, and the NE scenery is pretty nice. The worst is that there are only about two months (in my opinion) where the weather is perfect for golf. I play whenever I can but spring, midsummer, and late fall golf can get pretty dicey. What do you do for a living? I am an attorney by trade. How’d you pick your user name? It's my name lol
