  1. Well, I'm 8 rounds in with the DF3 and according to Tangent I'm +1.1 strokes gained putting against scratch player. I'm pretty happy with that. I'm just back from playing 5 rounds in Turkey where the greens were rather different than here in St Andrews too, so an even better performance. One thing I've notice with this putter relative to my Toulon is that it's definitely faster off the face and I'm not missing short as often as I used to (like to die the ball in the hole). I actually quite like that but I'll need to adjust my putt reading and take less break if I continue to hit it firmly.
  2. Using this in Turkey right now on a boys golf trip and it's finding courses without any issues and performing very well. Definitely performing better than me. I'm blaming the Negroni's......
  3. Could you ask a question about how counterbalance works and the impact of not using the press grips. With the press grip the shaft comes in at an angle so how does it work with the counterbalanced grips?
  4. My local range was doing a special fitting week so I went along to try my G430LST against the Max 10K. I've been intrigued by all the amazing reviews I've been reading about it and watching on YouTube so I wanted to see for myself. Best way to do that was with a paid for fitting session. We tried the same configuration in both clubs - 10.5 degree turned down to 9.5 with Kaili white stiff shaft. After I'd warmed up we took baseline data from 5 drives with my LST, then tried the Max10K. Ball speed was exactly the same - not approximately, exactly which must be a statistical anomaly! Launch and spin were higher with the Max 10K and dispersion was poor. It's not for me and the LST remains the better fit. But it's a must try club if you're looking for a new driver.
  5. A friend of mine had a couple of sets of these back in the day and absolutely swore by them. Great irons if you can find them.
  6. The more I see comments from LAB like "a degree or so off isn't a big deal" makes me wonder why they charge so much for making adjustments to lie angle.....could I have saved £100 and just bought the standard product?
  7. So, amuse me, what's the point in having a Lie Angle Balanced putter if you then manipulate the lie? Why pay an upcharge for custom fitting to the correct lie angle for you, if you then manipulate the lie? I don't remember Phil being toe up with his 8802. I know Zalatoris putted "heal up" with his Scotty too though. I don't have an axe to grind here - I actually own a DF3
  8. I didn't see a lot of Phil on TV yesterday but I did see the down the line shot of him putting on 18. His DF3 was really toe up. Is that a bad fit or a bad user??
  9. I went back to Auchterlonies today and tried the Stealth with Evenflow Riptide again. This time I'd swapped the Ping shaft back to the Alta CB as a better comparison than the Kaili. Today's testing really favoured the Ping. I preferred how the Stealth felt and sounded but the Ping was just a bit better. Averages were close, with the Ping just a little longer overall. I just preferred the flight of the Ping for links golf. The Stealth would be great at the Dukes but I'm not going to start switching woods for different courses! So it's no change for me, other than keeping the Alta shaft in. Hope this helps anyone else looking at fairway woods.
  10. It's soooo frustrating. Two rounds booked this weekend though. I'll update my review thread with putting stats from Tangent once I have a few rounds completed.
  11. Here's my actual putter. The weather has been so poor since I got it last week that I've not been able to get a game yet unfortunately. Black with standard shaft and T alignment. On the putting mat and practice green it's feeling great. Note that I also tried a demo club with the Accra shaft and thought it changed the feel/sound considerably so please find somewhere you can try the alternative shafts before ordering, as they do have an impact. If I could make two changes to my club, I wish the standard shaft had been a stepless model and the new grip came in black rather than just white (but both of those things are purely aesthetic). I need to clean my putting mat!
  12. Morning everyone. I'm currently playing the Ping G425LST fairway (3W) with the choice of Alta CB and Kaili White shafts - pretty indifferent as to which one I use. I have no problem launching the club but can find it a bit low and a bit right biased at times. Anyway, I recently went for a Ping demo to try the G430Max 10K driver and after that we tried the G430Max fairway. It highlighted that I'm losing speed and distance potential with the LST head but no matter what we tried with the Max it kept wanting to go left. Anyhow, as a self-confessed club junkie, being told I'm not getting the most out of my 3W sets the mind racing and the ugrade-itis kicks in big time. I took a trip to the Auchterlonies second-hand store and picked up a few Stealth 2 models - 2 Plus with NA Nemesys, 2 Plus with Proforce V2, Standard head with Evenflow Riptide and took them to the range to see how they got on. This is a fitting head, so comes with the adjustable sleeve. I've never been aware of how bad the Ping sounds until I compared it to the Stealth2 I got some base data with the Ping and then started with the Stealths - Nemesys first (hugely intrigued by the shaft), V2 second and finally the standard head. I like to play my 3W off the fairway so these were all hit from the mat. I'm categorically not looking for a driver replacement! Despite the deeper face on the 2 Plus, I still found it easy to launch. The Nemesys is a lovely feeling shaft too. I was consistently about 5-10 yards shorter than my Ping (tried the weight in 3 different positions). Moving on to the V2, it was straighter and a nicer ball flight but again shorter than the Ping. Finally, the one I wasn't really interested in, the standard head and wow, what a difference. Straight, high and long, this was the best of the three heads for me. It wasn't significantly better than the Ping though. Best for best it was about 5 yards more carry and and total distance but it got there with a very different flight. On average though the difference was more like 10 yards but the thing that impressed me most was the way it felt compared to the Ping. I didn't mess around with the loft sleeve though as I was running out of balls but it would have been interesting to notch it down a bit (Ping is 14.5) and see how they compared. I did like the smooth feel of the Evenflow Riptide shaft more than either of my Ping shafts. I did swap it into the Plus head, but the standard was still better. I'm not convinced the difference is enough to make the switch though and I'm even wondering if getting the Riptide shaft for the Ping is actually the way to go. Selling the Ping will likely cover the cost of the second-hand TM so I could always buy it and see how it performs on the course before making a decision... Anyway, there are very limited fairway reviews out in the world so I thought I would ask for opinions about the Stealth 2 range here. Is anyone playing them and how have you found them? As I said, turf interaction is important as this will be used off the fairway, more than off the tee and that's where the Ping has excelled in the time I've had it. I just feel the need for speed As a side note, I know fairways are not as exciting as new drivers, but I'd love to see some more reviews. There are some seriously good clubs out there.
  13. I've just been hitting some Stealth 2 and Stealth 2 Plus second-hand fairways this afternoon. I really wanted to like the Plus models, especially with the shaft upgrades that were in them for the price (VA Nemesys), but the standard model just blew them both away. I'm just trying to decide if it was enough of an improvement over my G425 LST fairway to justify the switch.
