  1. I’ve just recently started using Arccos. I use it with my series 9 Apple watch so I don’t have the hassle of keeping my phone in my front pocket nor did I have the expense of buying Arccos Link. With Arccos and Apple Watch, 98+% of my shots are automatically tracked. Most of the missed shots are tap-in putts which can be added manually and instantly on my Apple watch. Arccos uses a haptic tap from the watch to let you know if a shot has been detected. So far I like how it’s working. Strokes gained data targets areas to improve. Used GolfShot Pro for a time which also uses Apple watch for swing tracking. It missed a lot of shots.
  2. About Me How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I think of my golf “career” as two stages. Stage 1 began when I was around 20 and ran for about 30 years. I took a break after kids and new career arrived and recently (2022) began stage 2. At the moment I’m a 10.7 handicap. What do you love about golf? The feel of a well struck golf shot that does exactly what I planned on it doing. Playing in a beautiful, natural, and peaceful space that is relaxing. Playing with like-minded (regarding golf) family and friends where we can be mildly competitive. It’s challenging and there’s always room for improvement. I can play golf well into old age. What brings you to My Golf Spy? Do you already know any other Spies? The product reviews are great and the articles are interesting. Also, the discounts on equipment/merchandise are excellent. I’ve just recently joined the forum and its great seeing other avid golfers thoughts on the game. I don’t know any other spies. Where are you from? What is your home course? I’m from the Detroit area. I have a season pass to a local municipal course, Riverview Highlands. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best: Lots of courses in my area with pretty good greens fee rates. Worst: Winter What do you do for a living? Retired, but formerly I was a marriage counselor. How’d you pick your user name? NIckname given me by my wife with the first two initials of my sons first names tacked on the end.
  3. After almost a 20 year hiatus from golf, I started playing again in 2022. I started watching YouTube videos shortly after restarting. It’s easy to go down the online instruction rabbit hole but I’ve found it helpful in three areas. 1. Short game. 2. Speed training. 3. Fitness/flexibility routines. 1. Short game, initially found some short game videos from Danny Maude very helpful and then discovered Dan Grieves “3 Release” short game system which has provided a very effective set of swing methods and strategies for my short game (chipping and pitching). It has been important for me to video my practice sessions to get feedback (in session) of how I compare to Maude and Grieve’s short game instruction. I can analyze this short game aspect of my overall golf swing fairly effectively. That’s not necessarily the case with the full swing. 2. Speed Training - watched Padraig Harrington’s speed training videos and loved them. Bought the SuperSpeed Golf speed training system and the training has helped. 3. Fitness/Flexibility - after watching several golf specific fitness/flexibility videos on YouTube I realized I needed to start doing something to get fit and flexible. I’m using Golf Forever’s swing trainer and exercise program to do both at the moment. It’s been very helpful. Full swing YouTube videos can be confusing because there are so many different swing tips that are given. You have to be able to analyze your own full swing using different tools (video, swing trackers) to effectively apply these tips. That’s very tough to do, so having a golf pro/swing coach telling you how to make changes in real time is beneficial.
  4. I’ve noticed players with speakers on carts but never in the group I was in until my brother and I got paired with a twosome that played music from their smartphone. On the second tee, they cranked up some hard rock that was loud enough to hear at least 50 yards away. It was very annoying and intrusive at first. After about three holes, I asked them to turn it down, which they did with no griping. I could barely hear it after that except when we were teeing off. I eventually got used to hearing it so it didn’t bother my golf game. I think it’s okay if someone wants to listen while they play as long as it’s not intruding on another player. Although, I’ve never played with music on, I believe the volume could be set low enough to not bother playing partners. I’m now intrigued though on seeing how having my own music playing would affect my game. I may experiment with it, though I doubt I would continue the practice because I enjoy the natural sounds and quiet found on the course.
