  1. I’ve not seen clubs in the store but I have seen some hitting nets, head covers, smallish training aids kind of stuff. As an aside, if you get the timing right they do some crazy in store discounts when the seasons change over I think. Right after Christmas 2022, wife and I went in and grabbed something like 25 items for just over $100.
  2. My new favorite is Athletic Motion Golf! I say this while watching Bryson and Martin Borgmeier in the break 50 series
  3. Did some light work in the garage on swing technique. Finally got myself to slow down enough to just do the motions well and was really happy with how flush the contact was. Decided to take a drive over to the practice holes with just the 8 iron to see what ball flight looked like. Contact was still pretty decent, but needed a couple small tweaks. I’m only able to get to around 70% speed and still keep the sequence intact which isn’t terrible. Not scheduled to play anytime soon so really looking to take this one slow.
  4. I’m a day late but yesterday was a long one. Joined my dad for his annual day trip to rural IL for 36 holes. He’s been doing it for 25 years and so blessed to be able to have started in it for quite a few. Driver was significantly less squirrelly throughout the day, which was a welcome change, though the distance is down. Actually, distance is down on everything which is a little discouraging but setting that aside. Only lost one ball and one of those where everyone saw it land and thought it was good but just couldn’t find. Struggled to find the bottom on the irons in the first round, but worked through it on the range between rounds. Really just focused on tempo. Chipping and putting was pretty strong all day. Overall, a really fun day!
  5. There’s a little 5 hole course that a park district nearby runs. Went for an hour just before sundown and nobody was there. Only took an 8i and just hit balls at one of the holes. Pretty small greens so good target practice. Straightened out some fade that was getting a little unruly.
  6. Not from Golf Galaxy but I just bought a 54* Callaway Jaws Raw used demo from a PGA Tour Superstore. I’m super happy with it. It looked pretty good to me on inspection and I thought a wedge probably isn’t taking too bad a beating. I’d probably be a little more reluctant with a driver…
  7. I’m trying to be better about recording my swing. I’m currently recording with my iPhone 14 in slo-mo. I’ve got a voice control command setup to toggle the start and stop of the recording which is cool. Two things I’m looking for: A tool to draw lines on the video A way to view it near real time on another screen Basically, I’m looking for a quick way after each shot to evaluate. What apps or setup do you use? Bonus points if it doesn’t require a subscription Edit: Not necessarily looking for an all-in-one solution
  8. I was out doing the daily practice in the garage and finally got the tripod out to record some swings. I’ve been practicing some shallowing motions with the arms and wanted to see if I was making any progress. I happened to have laser level attached to the tripod which I used to line up the camera but left it on when I started swinging. I noticed at address the vertical line was barely at the tip of my forehead. By the time I reach the top of the backswing my head has drifted forward so that the vertical line is now almost to my ear. I’ve leaned forward nearly 3 inches! Doesn’t really matter what shallowing motions my arms make if I’ve leaned forward so far. Has anyone experienced similar and what helped overcome? Any drill recommendations?
  9. Got to get out for a round with a friend with a single digit handicap. As someone who’s never broke 90, I’ve been pretty reluctant to play with people “that good” for fear of making it unenjoyable. What I realized today is that there’s a lot of small things that he does better. Chips, pitches and putts! Learned a lot today
  10. I recently watched a video describing a similar scenario for a 6’4” guy. I found the explanation helpful in recognizing some patterns I was doing.
  11. Really appreciate the reviews from all the testers! Very insightful and helpful as I’ve been considering these.
  12. Morning Spies! Taking my first to college today…where has the time gone? Out to Phoenix today and back tomorrow!
  13. These are total distance numbers? Not just carry, correct?
  14. I’m having the hardest time processing my round today. I’m in the still-haven’t-broke-90 club. Shot a 42 on the front, and followed it with a 48 on the back . Good things first: one birdie, six pars, three bogeys. Short game around the green was great, thanks in part to some of the things I’ve read on this forum in the past week and thanks to a friend that pushed me to use different clubs. I had 31 putts, including 7 one putts. First day with the new clubs, which were awesome, but also didn’t trust my distances. Now for the trouble. 7 doubles and a triple. The driver was a real problem today and I was late to recognize it. I had 2 FIR, one of which was a 4-iron. Both of those holes resulted in doubles, because of shanked full swing wedges. Two penalties on the back due to drives, and another three or four where the only play was a punch out back to the fairway. I played 10 holes at 2 over, and 8 holes at 17 over. Such a frustrating game
  15. Closest I’ve been today! 130 yd PW to an uphill green. Couldn’t actually see where or what it did on the green, but fun to walk up to see this!
