  1. callaway talks about it in some of their videos......mainly with the CS. I think thats the axis number......obviously that promotes slices and hooks....
  2. awesome!!! I totally agree with his aproach to testing.....2 seasons ago, i bought 5 different brands (12 different dzn) and tested them all and Bridgestone, TM and Srixon were all horribe for me......callaway CSX and even CS were awesome......the best ball out of everything i tested was the left dot. I still play that today but i am running low......so im off to try something new. Thanks for the response
  3. when going through a bunch of data, i fall into the mid swing speed category. I wanted to look at distance initially, followed by spin rates 35 yards and in, once i found a good ball for distance off the driver and mid iron....basically im thinking "what ball can get me to the green faster and easier than the others"....once i got to the green or near the green, i looked at spin rates.....my angle of descent is pretty good so spin rates off the mid iron was not a factor for me When comparing the V1 line up, the V1X is 10 yards longer than the V1 when it comes to combining the driver and a mid iron.....so that means im using one less club throughout many par 4's.....the V1x is even 6 yards longer the left dash over the course of those two shots.........around the greens the v1x and V1 are only separated by a few hundred rpms, which means nothing...after analyzing almost every ball id buy......the V1x looks to be the longest and best overall performer.....i basically looked at TM. Titleist, Callaway, Maxfli, srixon and bridgestone...out of all these balls, the only one over 440 combined yards for the 2 shots was the V1x (445 total yards)....left dash was 2nd at 439.... I really hope the new TP5 series of 2024 has improved tremendously because the version tested is extremely bad for a mid swing player tp5x is 17 yards shorter between the driver and mid iron tp5 is 23 yards shorter no other ball really jumps off the page....MOST of the balls i analyzed are in the 433-435 range.....10 yards off the v1X..... i need to try a box and see how they do on the course
  4. people have to remember the spin numbers are what come off the face of the club.....not when the ball is midflight or upon landing......the degradation of spin throughout the flight may be different from ball to ball and NOBODY has any idea how much spin is on the ball when it hits the green.....the spin number you see directly affects the immediate trajectory of the ball which results in height and distance....other than that, focusing on a 200rpm difference between balls is flawed thinking.....you have absolutely NO IDEA if that 200 rpm difference is the same off the club face and in flight as the other ball.....do you know how each ball is with side spin? and what those numbers may be? This is why a lot of people should play the calloway chromesoft ball.....it has been tested with the least amount of side spin and it could be marketed as a "forgiving ball". People talk all day about forgiveness but never talk about the one piece of equipment that you hit EVERY TIME on the course.....the ball...... "I found that for me at least it did spin less"......how did you find this out? just curious..
  5. Please dont take this as hate, but ive been a member here for quite some time and traditionally have loved this site more than other sites. It was DIFFERENT....this site brought a new and exciting way to learn and talk about the world of golf from an equipment standpoint. The ball labs and ball testing obviously put the golf industry on notice and the follow up testing was amazing........since then, the site has really changed and really taken a turn for the worse. The site layout is really bad......this needs to be changed....the formatting is all wrong, the pictures are SO BIG and in your face, its hard to concentrate on anything. If you are to spend $$$ on anything, it would be to hire a web site design expert The forums being a different site is really annoying. The forum set up is ok, but could use a refresh and formatting updates so it flows The articles have gone downhill. I don't understand some of the "articles" being written as they seem to be sales ads more than anything else The ADS in the middle of a testing article are really annoying. You just get into reading about a certain ball, and a huge picture of a driver pops up or a pair of shoes.....its really annoying. The ball labs are great but the way you grade and present the information is very confusing......the nomenclature is very confusing to the average reader. I think MGS has seen its peak and unfortunately is headed in the wrong direction. Many people have left the site and it definitely has taken a turn for the worse. Even the podcasts have gone in the wrong direction. Tomny comes off as a know it all arrogant guy while Chris comes off as a really nice guy but seems to have to play the part of the clown and 2nd fiddle to Tony......I feel bad for him. The positives of the podcast is the information you present. while it could be presented in a more exciting fashion, the info is solid I used to love MGS but now its hard to find information, its a site for selling products more than anything else and the layout is really really bad. Its not a site that is visually appealing at all.
  6. full ball compression is very low 80's
  7. You can just feel the pressure on Rory and it gets worse and worse each year......did he miss his chance when he endured that final round collapse in 2011? 12 years later, we are less confident in his ability to win this tournament. If he happens to be lucky enough to be in the running on Sunday, let's hope that little scared kid does not emerge and cost him a shot at immortality.
  8. a lot of the head to head testing on you tube shows the new TP5X to be lagging behind balls like the Prov1x. Not sure why TM cant get this ball right. Each release its drastically "different" than the model before the 2019 TP5 is still the best TM ball ever made in my opinion
  9. cool.....i saw on the TM website they list the TP5 at 53 compression,.,. Is this legit?
  10. yup....i read all of it and digested as much as i could hoping they do a ball lab on it soon. too bad they cant test new balls every year. the timing of the test being done every 2 years leaves a lot to be desired as new balls are coming out in between....so in essence you dont get comparisons between all the new balls released each year...you have to wait a full year to see the new TP5 tested.... i know how involved the test is so i get it....i just hope they get to a point where they can test balls prior to mass release
  11. I am always on the line between flexes when i purchase clubs its actually annoying but I guess I can adapt to either or..... the yardages are spot on with my driver and 4 wood...... so many guys I play with claim 300 yard drives until we hit the course and then they are all "amazed" that only hit it 250.......I can crank one 270 on a good day but im right around the 250-255 mark
  12. Has MGS tested these balls vs the 2021 model? so many radical claims about the new TP5X going 7 yards further than the previous model.....just curious if there is any merit to the new speed wrap core or whatever they call it
  13. i have a nice tempo with slight aggressivness, nothing crazy. I do not generate "EXTREME" load on the shaft but i hit my 19 degree around 210 if that helps....not super long by any means
  14. I am about to purchase a PING G430 hybrid and see no need for a fitting.....what shaft is pings best stock shaft for a high ball hitter with a 90+ MPH swing?
  15. sometimes cutting the shaft down a 1/2" to an inch makes the staff stiffer and you become more accurate. Stock shafts offered are typically too long for the amateur player. The amateur player benefits greatly from a 44" shaft opposed to a 45.5 seen in most stock offerings
  16. Played the TP5's the other day......9 holes with each........this does not match the media hype at all......TP5x is still very clicky, not enough spin under 100 yards and the distance is the same as many other balls. The TP5 is still too soft, spinny and short.... All the TM marketing is funny to me as Rory, Fowler and youtube "influencers" are all saying the same thing "Ive made my best gains with thi ball".....lol..... and the fact TM says "the longest 5 layer ball on the market" is a joke......its the ONLY 5 layer ball out there......
  17. I have TBH. I just played the new TP5X and its all hype once again. Still clicky, still mediocre in the long iron game and definitely not enough spin around the greens The other side of the coin is the TP5 is still too soft and spinny.....lots of room for improvement in this lineup if you ask me....... the marketing is hilarious.....each player is saying "I have my longest gains with this ball".....Rory, Fowler and even a hot of youtube amateurs.....IMO, TM is not even CLOSE to Titleist quality or performance......Callaway is much better than TM and closer to Titleist......im disappointed.
  18. Can you do a specialty ball like the left DOT???
  19. I usually gain 3 shots a side when i wear a $1000 outfit Shoes 250 Shirt 125 pants 400 glove 25 hat 80 sunglasses 120
  20. makes sense. Im used to a DG 130 but as i am starting to age a bit, im looking for something a little more manageable for 18 holes
  21. Ok, i am not a huge proponent of fitting for amateurs with HDCP of +8 or higher. I just think lessons and swing improvements should be maximized prior to fittings.......I say this because as you improve and your swing changes, the fitting process may change as well......not a popular thought, i know That being said, I just went through a fitting at a local club and the fitting came down to the DG 120, PX 5.5 LZ and the Modus. The fitter said the Modus 120 is the best shaft for all amateurs in the 10-20 HDCP range. For me, the shaft felt a little whippy compared to the DG120 and PX but the numbers were all about the same.... is this fitter accurate with this statement?
  22. chromesoft is a very under rated ball.....it does everything well.....switching balls to something "better" may not result in better scoring.....its rare a switch results in you actually SCORING Better.....thats the ultimate goal is to score better....not gain 2 yards of distance off the driver....
  23. While i wish i had seen the Left Dot in this test, i was shocked to see how well the V1X did across the board....longer than left dash at mid swing and fast speeds.......if you are a titleist player and swing in the mid range, only two balls in thier lineup exceed 400 yards on a driver and mid iron.....Left dash and V1x... I was disappointed in the V1 in comparison as Titleist has claimed to incorporate some left dot technology but I feel they missed the mark.....Finau left the V1 to go back to the left dot.... i have to test the V1x on the course.....
  24. im already dying to know WTF happened to TM balls.......
