  1. I can maybe help with that. What are you willing to pay?
  2. Golf, like life, has a way of humbling us real quick.
  3. Was able to get 9 in on Friday afternoon, first time playing in 2 weeks. This was the second time playing since I cracked the shaft on my driver, so I skirted around with my 3-wood off the tee, mostly into a stiff wind. I usually get paired with older folks, but I got to play with a couple of younger guys, I'm 35, and I was keeping up with their drivers off most tees, 250+. This is the main reason I haven't taken the time to test other drivers since I don't need one from the back tees at my home course. Would it make some of the holes easier, especially into the wind? Yes, but it also forces me into fuller shots with longer irons, which I could use the work. On to the round. As you could imagine, I was a little rusty and tight from not having played and being sent straight to the tee before my time, and I bogey the first 2 holes, with not much good to speak of. After loosening up, I played 3-6 even with some good shots. I missed a par save on 7 after a duffed tee shot with a long iron. I doubled 8 after pulling my 3-wood into a penalty area, which has been my miss since my driver broke. I narrowly missed a birdie on 9 for a 41 with 15 putts. Not bad, not good but thankful to be able to play.
  4. This is a neat contest. 1. Cut: +1 2. Low Am: Hagestad
  5. I slipped out for 9 after work on Monday (3/18); it was mid 40s and steady 15 mph winds gusting over 30. I got off the tee fine and putted well, but I never really felt comfortable with full irons or wedges. Which was odd with how solid my ball striking has been so far this year. I honestly considered leaving the course after 3 consecutive mishits on the same hole (par 3), but momma didn't raise a quitter. I scraped around with a 45 on 15 putts, which is my worst 9-hole score at my home course in years. Golf, like life, has a way of humbling us real quick. Hoping to slip out early on Friday to see if I can get back in the groove of hitting solid iron shots. I have been a feel player since I picked up the game, but I am thinking it may be time to consider some sort of analysis on my setup, alignment, and ball position. I just don't want to be to dogmatic and take the fun out just going out and hitting the ball, but it is no fun going from flushing it to borderline shanks either.
  6. Played my first full round of the year. Very good the first 6 holes of each side but struggled to finish them off. I missed a lot of greens but I converted several up and downs. Two OBs right really made the difference from a good round to an ok round but left a bad taste in my mouth after scrambling around all day. I worked on some tempo on 6 foot putts prior to the round and that is what kept this round from getting off the rails. Only a couple of my 1 putts came from inside 4 feet.
  7. Got out yesterday for an afternoon 9. Ball striking was solid tee to green but I only had 2 good looks for birdie, converting one. The double was from a power lip out on a downhill 4 footer that ended up about 10 feet, which I missed. Not scoring but not sloppy like my other two rounds so far this year. I’ll take it.
  8. First round of 2024. A decent day in middle TN but gusty wind up over 20. It was a pretty mixed bag but glad to be on the course. I hit it pretty solid but stats and scoring don’t do it justice.
  9. I slipped out on Friday afternoon for a 9-hole walk. Very solid ball striking evidenced by the stats, but only managed 1 up and down out of 4, 2 missed chances on par 5s for birdie. Highlight was the par on 2 from about 30 feet. I putted we’ll but didn’t give myself any good looks besides a 5 footer on 9 to close out good round.

  12. Date 11/11/2023 Course Name Smyrna Municipal Gross Score 77 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 5 Net Score to Par 2 Net Score 74 Net Birdies or better 5 Longest Drive 0 Two bad tee shots on the back resulted in doubles. Had 2 lip outs and missed 4 others inside 10 feet. Solid ball striking with no recent play or practice. Could have been much better but satisfied with how I hit it.
  13. Finally got back on the course. It had been 3 weeks. 37/42 for 79 total. 9/14 fairways and hit 11 greens but had 34 putts. Solid ball striking but I’ve been plagued with the shanks on a few shots each round lately. One caused and double and I got away with a par on the other but they just come out of nowhere.

I am very pleased with this purchase. A solid strike off the tee is all I need for my local muni. I haven't been able to get a good read on my distance since it has been so dry and firm lately, but I think this fits the slot I was looking to fill. @GolfSub70 will definitely be on the list when replacing other clubs.
  15. Got back on the course for the first time in 2 weeks for an afternoon 9. Started with an easy birdie on a short par 5, then immediately shanked my tee shot on the par 3 second. At that point I though here we go again. I've been struggling with solid contact on my iron shots for the last month or so, but I managed to hit a great wedge from about 50 yards to 8 feet and made the putt for par. I hit most of the greens coming in but didn't make anything outside of 5 feet except to save par on 9. I felt pretty good leaving with a +1 37.
  16. I had an awesome experience yesterday, 9/13/23. I was asked to fly on a private plan to a little course in the middle of nowhere TN, Ross Creek Landing. This was the first time I had ever been on a small plane. I came in with high expectations, based on recent performance at my home course, but those were quickly tempered with a 49 on the front, which included several drops from marshes and thick native grasses. I played the back significantly better, but I let a good 9 slip coming in with bogey, double on the last two hole for a 42. A 91 total is the worst round in over 3 years, but that's the crazy thing about golf. I look forward to my next round to get that awful taste out of my mouth.

Just ordered the 699 v2 Utility 3 iron. Hopefully it gets here fast to try it out. I have a large gap between 3 wood and 4 iron, hoping this will help.
  19. I wish I would have seen this sooner. Looks like it would be fun to join in.
  20. Got 9 in after work yesterday, coming off my best ball striking round ever, and I couldn't hit a green to save my life. Two bad tee shots resulting in double bogeys resulted in a 40 with the rest being pars. On the bright side, I only had 13 putts.
  21. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing golf for about 20 years, and my handicap was in the 5s before the switch to the new system. I usually shoot mid 70s. What do you love about golf? I enjoy being outdoors and competition. Basketball was my sport growing up, but it is harder to find time to play after starting a career and a family. Golf keeps my competitive juices flowing, even though I mostly play alone. Golf provides peaks and valleys, it brings a variety of people together, and it is not always fair, which is a microcosm of life. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I saw an ad on Instagram and thought the reviews looked cool. I do not know any other Spies. Where are you from? What is your home course? I live in Smyrna, TN, and I usually play at the muni here. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? I can generally play golf 12 months out of the year. We usually have days warm enough from Nov-Feb to get at least one round in each of those months, but the summers are brutally hot and humid. What do you do for a living? I am an accountant. How’d you pick your user name? It is my name and basketball number.
