  1. I tend to be generous if it is just my buddies and I on the course not playing for $$$ - something to the effect of 4-5 ft or in. In my leagues, its always putter length and people are pretty good about measuring and not assuming their putts are fine to take. That being said, lots of research shows that 8ft is about a 50/50 split for odds to make the putt for a tour pro. I originally read that in Jon Sherman's "The Four Foundations of Golf: How to Build a Game That Lasts a Lifetime." If you're talking gimmes as in "there's no way this putt is missed," even a scratch golfer is ~80% from 4 ft. At each level of golfer, I'd imagine each extra foot going in might give you around ~10% increased odds? Just a guess. Take that how you will. I would second this opinion - their customer service is really great for that type of thing. They helped me a lot before I ordered my 101's
  3. My Soon-To-Be-Wife does not really play, but she is as supportive as they get with my obsession. I bought her a pretty basic set of Top Flite clubs to allow her to accompany me on the course/at the range, but that has only happened twice at the range so far. She is incredibly supportive when it comes to my frequency of play, which was at about 3x per week during the late spring/summer. She even encourages me to (reasonably) spend our $$$ on new equipment and rounds of golf. She thinks it's a good investment, to which I have no objections! She is very interested in the sport for someone who has never really played any sports. Or, at the very least, she tolerates me explaining everything that goes through my head that is golf-related. She will happily watch majors on TV and listen to me explain why "that was a great shot", etc. This year she actually came with me to play a few Saturday morning rounds as my "caddy" and chauffeur, as she enjoyed driving the cart but just watching me play. Looking forward to getting on the course with her more next year when we are in a more golf-accessible location!
  4. Didn't know this game was still played! I used to be really, really into it. Not much of a mobile gamer, but this one is definitely an exception. Also - I highly recommend Coffee Golf for those of you who like to do a morning/daily challenge type of game. I usually pair it with the mini-crossword and wordle.
  5. Very interesting to have gotten similar results as a high handicapper myself and a low one like yourself. My loss was only ~8 yds on avg, but I am sure that gets more consistent and noticeable at a lower handicap such as yours! 20 yards is very, very noticeable. Cool you were able to play both at once!
  6. A Quick Introduction What's up everyone! I am Mark, and this is my first time getting to test a product for MGS and really in general, so thanks to Titleist and MGS! Very excited to be included in this one and hopefully more in the future! I have been playing golf since I was a kid, but really became passionate and upped my frequency of play around the time of covid where I got to play almost daily at a local course that a buddy worked at. I joined a league this year where I finished in 3rd place for individual rankings and 5th as a team. Excited to get back out there in league play once the weather in Chicago allows for it, hopefully in early April (or late March, one can hope!) My handicap is probably around 18 - I have never have gotten an official number though. I plan to change that next year. My best round this year (and ever) was an 83 at a 71.7/122 rated course... admittedly, I'm not quite sure what that means. I also shot a 38 thru 9 at my league, securing a first place for the week and a good final push towards that top 3 finish. This winter, I hope to get a monthly membership for a sim to stay in "golf shape" and to hone in some of the areas that need improvement! Testing Results! I am going to go over a few things as well as some of the data. To me, there are 3 main categories for a golf ball: Looks, Feel and Performance. I got to test these with a Trackman at a PGA Superstore which was pretty cool. *Disclaimer* - I am not the most consistent golfer, meaning I may sometimes hit my 7i 156 yds and then turn around and hit it 150 yds. Usually, the difference isn't drastic, but just thought I'd preface this review with that bit of info! Looks: 6/10 This ball is just so extremely average looking. There is nothing wrong with that by any means. I didn't feel wowed or underwhelmed, more indifferent. The reason I mention this as a factor in my review is because I am a firm believer in the fact that if you are enjoying the ball you're playing and WANT it to perform well, more likely than not you will find ways to make it perform well. That being said, my testing was entirely objective for this ball. I'd give it a 6/10 - I can appreciate the deeper dimples for what I would assume to be higher spin capabilities. It is a pass in my opinion on the looks, nothing spectacular but nothing negative. Feel: 7/10 I usually play softer balls, such as the e6 or occasional Supersoft. This ball did not feel as hard as a high end harder ball such as the pro v1, but also not as cheap as a something like a velocity. It felt like a good balance of clubface feedback without feeling like I'm hitting a stone or a very clicky cheap ball. It provided significantly more feedback than my e6, which admittedly feels like hitting a marshmallow when pured. I would say the feel was slightly above average - I immediately knew a good strike vs poor strike. The Numbers: 5/10 The data just does not allow for me to give this ball an outstanding score here. My process was to hit about 7-8 shots per club (7 iron, PW, and Driver in that order) then to eliminate the 2-3 shot outliers that were shanks or chunks, etc... Averages below per club and per ball. Bridgestone e6 What I gather from this is that the Driver is probably the most telling of the results. The Titlelist gave a significantly higher average spin rate of about 450 rpm, hence the steeper land angle. This cost me about 8 yds total on average. My drives tend to run out quite a bit, so this makes sense to me. I go for a lower spin rate in a ball to eliminate a slice or "strong fade" as I prefer to call it. What surprised me with the 7 iron was the higher spin rate out of the Titleist, but also 5 yards total more on average. I thought the higher spin would be a steeper land angle, which it was, but I was just hitting it further for whatever reason. Both the e6 and Titleist performed almost identical on my PW. The Titleist, as mentioned in the feel portion, gave more feedback as to when I thought it was a spinny shot as opposed to the consistent soft feel of the e6. I can imagine that people with more spin control than myself would enjoy that. Final Thoughts/Score: 18/30 I am not saying this ball is bad by ANY means, it is actually quite an impressive ball - just not for my play style currently. I imagine this ball would best suit the shot shaper and spin controller, who likes a semi-soft ball with feedback that almost provides immediate constructive criticism. For me, however, I cannot justify switching over to this ball despite its superior shot feedback. Also, what would probably deter me is the price point. I imagine that this is a middle to high end model in the Titleist repertoire, which would probably run $30+ per dozen. The e6 at ~$25 per dozen is just unbeatable for me. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions! This ball is great, just not for me! Thanks again to Titleist and MGS!
  7. Morning all! Daylight savings is that time of year where my golf season starts to wind down, sadly. Luckily, this year I have MGS and a Golf Digest subscription to fuel my golf needs for the next ~5 months of less course play. Additionally, I plan to go to a newly opened PGA Superstore a few times a week to use their sim for an hour. The price isn't too shabby at $30/hr for your own bay. Going for the first time tonight and getting to do some data collection on the Titleist White Box should be fun. Lets have a good Tuesday!
  8. I am really excited to be a tester for this year! Just got these bad boys in the mail yesterday - already booked some sim time for this evening. Hopefully I'll get some useful data up against my typical ball, the Bridgestone e6. The plan is to (hopefully) get out on a course sometime in the coming weeks. Might be challenging with the lack of daylight, but we will see! More to come tonight!
  9. Good morning all! A brisk 30 degrees in Chicago this morning with ice on the ground. I have a tee time this Friday around 10 am with the weather seemingly getting warmer, to about 52. I decided to look up some winter golf tips (I have played in snow before, just thought I'd get extra insight because it certainly can't hurt) - some of the most interesting take aways: - Almost every source is saying that walking is the way to go to keep you locked in and moving - Alcohol is not your friend (it lowers your internal body temp in order to process the alcohol through your system) - Stay mentally fresh, I think what they really meant to say without saying it explicitly was "Lower your expectations" - Lastly, probably the best piece of advice: Book a golf trip somewhere warm

This makes so much more sense, thank you for the explanation. I think the fitting/equipment terminology is something I need to learn more about, haha. In terms of the Sub70 golf comparison - it is precisely spot on. I have a feeling that if/when I get fit, this will be the outcome as well, if not very similar.

Following up on my inquiries with Takomo's customer service (they were quick in terms of answer time as well): They asked the following, with my response to each below: How tall are you and what is your wrist to floor measurement with shoes on? I am 6'6" with wrist to floor measurements of 40" What's your 7 iron carry distance? 7 iron carry distance is about 160 yards Is your swing tempo slow, medium, or fast? I would say my swing tempo is medium Are you looking for a low, medium, or high trajectory? I am looking for a medium to high trajectory. They were able to respond with the following suggestions, similar to that of what the Sub70 online fitting tool gave as well: We would recommend +1.5" shafts with +3° lie angle. For the shaft model we would recommend the KBS Tour Lite shafts in stiff flex. We usually recommend the KBS Tour Lite shafts for the 101s since it perfectly complement the preferences of the 101s with high launch and spin. The raw weight of the KBS Tour Lite stiff shafts is 105g. I thought it was great they went into detail about the recommendations and the explanations. I was assuming the +1.5" shaft extensions as well as the KBS Tour Lites S, but the +3 degree loft was a surprise. Thoughts??

That's great advice - thanks again! I really appreciate it.

Thanks! Definitely helpful. I have definitely explored their website quite a bit, haha. I actually reached out to ask about what they'd recommend in terms of getting fit - they answered with some pretty basic questions regarding physical characteristics, like height and wrist to floor measurement. They also asked about 7i carry distance and swing tempo. I also thought it was nice they asked a preferred ball flight too - low/mid/high. I'll be responding. I'll keep you all updated! cc: @Shrek74 I appreciate your response as well! I have to do some deep diving into the shafts and such. Might honestly take a list with me to a PGA superstore and ask to hit a few of the same club with the different shafts to see if I can differentiate - unless there is any better way to do it!

Looks like we have a fair amount of people who have experience with the 101's, and I could use some help with them. I am looking into getting the 101's but wanted to know how you decided shaft length, type, lie angles, etc... essentially all the info a fitting would give you. Takomo obviously cant be fit pre-purchase as a DTC brand, which is a bit of a bummer. The other obstacle is that club fittings, from what I hear, are more suited to those with a specific brand/club type in mind (Taylormade Stealth irons, for example) - this is relevant because I hear that manufacturers make the same club (ie a 7 iron) with different lie angles from brand to brand which could in turn impact the transferability of fitting results from one brand to another.... Anyone have any advice on how to get fit/decide on what specs to select when ordering from Takomo? Thanks!!
  15. I am going with losing to the 10ft birdie putt - I'd want the match to end on someone hitting a good putt/shot as opposed to a crappy miss. Plus, my ego might still be somewhat intact afterwards if that was the case
