  1. But in football the D-back doesn't call Pass interference on himself and Batters don't call strikes against themselves. In golf professionals will call rules violations against themselves. If you have the integrity to call your own violations you can have it to call your own Hole in One.
  2. People will be doubtful but does it count?
  3. Lol, I have the 2000. Wife won't let me upgrade to the 3.
  4. The competitive vs "practice" doesn't make a ton of sense to me. If your playing a round you intend to post to GHIN is that competitive or practice? If I go play Tuesday night mens league is that competitive? If I go on a guys trip is that practice? Obviously against the topic of playing by yourself. But what if you have your coach give you a playing lesson? During the opening holes they have you hit a few extra shots to try different things. You get to a par 3 and the first shot you hit goes in? I think that counts. If you step to the tee with the intent to hit 2. The 1st one counts, the 2nd one doesn't. I could rant for hours on this topic. When I hear guys say "that doesn't count" 99% of the time I think they are jealous.
  5. 1. Legal? Like Music on the course, if it's not obnoxious and your group likes it or finds use for it, Go for it! 2. I'm guessing louder=most effective. 3. I'm playing in a fundraising tournament tomorrow and the greens today had leaves all over them... I think my Milwaukee M18 could find some use!
  6. I believe it counts. If you can call a 2 stroke penalty on your self at the Tour Championship because you think you touched the sand and the cameras can't even see it! Golf is about honor and integrity. I agree 100% with everything, 1 ball, no mulligans etc. Expect one thing... USGA allows you to post incomplete rounds and they use your index to "assume" your finishing scores. So total holes shouldn't be a factor. If you quit or stop due to darkness, weather or the club house bar calling it should all be the same.
  7. I bought my first pair 4 years ago and my 2nd pair a month ago. They are amazing, I'm a believer. Comfortable and crazy stable in all conditions if I get 3 seasons out of these that's $100 a year. I only replaced because they started to loose their waterproof abilities. Yes there are "cheaper" options out there but just that cheaper. I spend more annually on golf balls. I buy 3 wedges every 4 years that's $125 annually again cheaper options. I could go on about other things in my bag but it could get redundant. I'm not about price. I'm about value.
  8. Great question. I "feel" like I am the best at putting because typically when I shoot good or where I want to score. I look back and be like yeah I drained some nice ones today and avoided 3 putts. On the flip if shoot bad and ask myself what just happened it sometimes my driver but usually my ability to hit the green from 160-200(8i-5i for me) or at least give myself a good leave. I keep thinking about an App like Shot Scope ti tell me what is really going on, especially those inbetween rounds. But I wanna golf I don't want to mess with apps, sensors, watches, tap here etc.. maybe I'm over thinking it and there not that complicated but when I play my basically beer league I don't want to be "that guy"
  9. Quick(ish) review of the TP5x Stripe As mentioned I ordered these on Aug 26th. As advertised they started shipping on the 29th, due to the Holiday they showed up Tuesday, before 9am I might add Fedex doesn't typically get to my next of the woods until Late Afternoon so that was cool. I took them out to the course this morning for a quick putting session, 18 Holes and another putting session. First I would like to mention why I jumped on the opportunity immediately. 1. I have used TP5x Balls for about 4 years now, I love them. 2. I always mark a line on my ball and use it every time I putt. 3. I was getting dangerously low on balls. Appearance: Here are 6 Balls laid out on 6 different sides(Think of it like a dice cube showing every side) Each ball is turned One Quarter turn compared to the one next to it. A little interesting because it only has the Number and Taylormade printed once per ball. Depending on how people mark in tournaments, if your superstitious and circle the Number or Color in the 'T' (Or something along the lines of that... no pun intended) there is only 1 vs Both Sides of a Standard Ball therefore odds can go up that your marking could be hidden when you need to identify it. On the Course: At address on drivers or tee shots it is nice to have a decent sized white spot. Depending on the day or my mood I sometimes like to look at nothing extra and sometimes I want something. The "white" sides gives a bit of a halo look but it didn't bother me today. On the green they were super cool, the lines going all the way around REALLY amplifies the good and bad strikes. The wobble from an inconsistent strike almost got a little trippy on the eyes. As well as the (few) Pure putts I hit today, the outside likes looked solid black compared to the dotted line appearance. Side note. I've had my putter for 3 years, I think they are made for each other... Durability: Although I only played 18 Holes so far. The first ball survived 15 holes before I sent it over some white stakes, it encountered about 5 trees, had a couple full swing wedge shots, couple 3/4 knock down swings. And I didn't notice any issues with quality or durability. The ball held up and responded just like my regular TP5x' Conclusion: I will be gaming these balls immediately and into the future. I may continue to buy a box of regular TP5x' to mix in now and again to spice things up but so far I'm Lovin' em. Thanks for Reading!
  10. I definitely hear you on this one... When I mark a regular ball it probably goes around about 40% of the way just over the TP5x marking. When I tee off, alot of the time I will set the whitest part up not even looking at a Taylormade logo. I'm interested if these stripes will be a problem since it goes all the around and no longer be a empty spot. For the most part I have an aiming routine with my putter which uses the line and different aiming routing with all other clubs. I like to use the line when putting to help square up my feet, body and putter to where I want to hit it. I look back and forth at the hole about 3 times to find the speed I want but when I make my final stroke I stare at the line on the ball to make a consistent straight back, straight through stoke. Using a line has helped my putting tremendously.... HOWEVER if I'm 1 foot off the green with 20+ feet to the hole I CANNOT putt because I loose my routine since I can't mark and adjust it. Which forces me to chip it. In the end why I'm really excited is I like the line when putting, nothing is more satisfying then seeing your ball with a line go end over end into the center of the cup.
  11. I'm OK with the -10 start. Becomes a 5 day tournament where effectively on Wednesday Scottie shot a 65 and 5 guys shot 75 and everyone else in between. All these guys have Sports Psychologists they can manage the "mindset" of starting ahead or behind. For how dominating Scottie has been and Xander not far behind I don't think their lead is big enough. I think they should look at people's scores on a percentage based system compared to the guy in 1st. Currently Scottie has almost 2x the points of Hideki and only starts 3 ahead of him. Technically he earned 58% of Scottie which could suggest he should start at -6 instead of -7. With this logic I think last weekend plays out differently. 1) did Scottie go through the motions knowing his 1st place was safe and the Altitude adjustments beat him up? Or does he grind for top 5 because it might mean a greater advantage on the entire field come this week? 2) I don't know the extent of Hidekis injury he luckily didn't drop in the rankings but had the correct people get top 3 he could have dropped 3 places and therefore 3 strokes. So I'm sure it was a calculated decision 3 more days of rest could make up for potential lost shots. BUT Maybe if his injury was minor he grinds for a top 10 to close the gap and start closer to Scottie? Just my 2 cents.
  12. If a course has room for hole zero, just make a range, if they have a range and still room, make a short game area. My idea of a "warm up" hole is an easy starting hole. Par 4, straightish, shortish(driver flip wedge) not driveable as not to hinder pace of play. No water, no OB, wide driver landing zone. Larger green with little undulation (compared the rest of course). Thought process... it's real so the nerves are there but with very limited "negative" pre-shot thoughts. (Avoid the water, don't block it right etc.) You can hopefully get your par and feel confident moving forward. With an index of 8(currently) on days I wake up "feeling good" and wanna score. I find a bogie on the first is a buzz kill, even though I'm going to get 5-8 throughout the day. If I let my mind slip it can ruin the round. I've also been in this position and stuffed a chip or drained a bomb for birdie and found myself high stepping to the 2nd tee ready to conquer the rest of the course.
  13. Just ordered 2 dozen TP5x stripes. Looking forward to them. No longer messing around with the line making tool on the first tee just to deposit the ball in the pond while the inks still wet.
  14. Good run down. I went there 3 years ago and had a very similar experience. Regarding "stock" vs upgrade. I recall being asked if I had a budget. I just stated I do but I don't. I would like to see what's the best for me and if it happens to be expensive I wanted to compare side by side with a lower end. I ended up going with what felt the best and had the best numbers which happened to be a healthy upgrade. Also since everything is built I believe everything, like everything is an upgrade. I think the most basic of basic grips still costs $10-11 ea. No "stock" grips that come "included" I believe the same is true regarding shafts if you Happened to be fit for stock shafts.
  15. Interesting... I have had similar thoughts. Not so much as actually buying a course but always wondered how much more potential specific courses could have. Here are my random thoughts in no particular order. 1. What I hear is that your fighting for tee times? Is every course booked or just the courses your willing to play? For example the "run down" courses are typically open because they lack maintenance and no one wants to play them because of it? 2. An exercise I ask my self is how much more per round would I be willing to pay and then in turn what can the course do with that cash. If they are booked $5 is $1000-$1500 a day. 3. Are these courses paid off and the current owners are lazy and just doing enough to make just enough money support their (apparently low end) lifestyle? Their current fees could be just supporting the operating costs plus a small profit. Now you have to support higher operating costs, cost of purchase/purchase loan and hopefully a small profit. 4. On the flip side what if these courses are making the owners so much money that the bookings, price and conditions are EXACTLY where they want them? Last an 18 Hole course near me in rural Minnesota was listed last year for 4 Mil might have actually been 5. They are established, I actually just played it a week ago. The course needs nothing. 18 Holes during the week with cart was $45. Might be 50 or 55 on weekends. If you want a weekend tee time you need to call 2+ days ahead if you're not time specific probably close to week ahead if you need to be specific. Based on location and plenty of farm fields a developer would never by this plot. Long story short on this one courses are or can be expensive. I'm not sure any of this helps. But here you go.
