  1. I’m a fairly straight hitter, so I seldom lose a ball. I carry about a half dozen. When the leaves start to fall I add three more.
  2. Good morning from Arkansas! But not a good golf morning…rain, rain, and more rain with 4” predicted over the next four days. Looks like I will be spending some much needed practice time on the old putting track. Retirement isn’t as easy when the weather is bad .
  3. Been a club maker/repair since 1980’s. Want to know how to replace the whipping on that old persimmon driver? I’m your guy. Now, enough with the self promotion. On to replacing those old grips. First and foremost don’t try to cut the old grips off graphite shafts! I have seen more than one shaft break inside the grip because the shaft was compromised by use of a box cutter. If your shafts are steel, feel free to cut away. If graphite, here’s a nice video (below) for using heat. Once the old tape is removed, you are ready to install the new. I recommend watching a video on the install process. There are plenty of those on Youtube. Good luck re-gripping!
  4. Definitely the big stick, although mine isn’t very big! Talking about how far I hit the driver and not what you might’ve thought . But I do manage to find the short grass a majority of the time. Fought a terrible hook for many years (hence the moniker) but with a lot of range work turned the hook into a very dependable draw. On a good, warm day I can carry my driver about 190 yards. Not great, but not too bad for a guy in his 70’s. With my mid ball flight the draw rolls out. But anything longer than the senior tees and I am toast! Words of wisdom…If you hit it short, at least hit it straight!
  5. Being a veteran, I was happy to grab this Macgregor stand bag for $39 at https://www.golfoutletsusa.com/ They also have the cart version for $10 more. A very nice bag for the money!
  6. TourEdge Golf. Their clubs are easy to hit and won’t break the bank. Perfect for weekend players. IMHO
  7. Arkansas is almost year round golf. Typically we have only about six weeks when it’s too cold to play. Even then, the occasional decent day pops up. However, most courses are fully Bermuda grass with no overseeding. So, we play on dormant grass during winter. Some courses dye the greens for those months. Let me just say that dormant Bermuda greens are really fast! We do get a lot rain during winter, so it can get quite sloppy. But sloppy golf beats no golf hands down!
  8. 2014 Callway Big Bertha, 10.5, Cypher A flex shaft. Still my gamer/fairway finder.
  9. Been there once for practice rounds on Tuesday & Wednesday. Got to see Arnie practice round for his last competitive Masters, so it’s “play” for me. But, would be very happy either way!
  10. Zach Allen for swing instructor. Also currently intrigued with Christo Garcia whose instruction is dead opposite of Zach. Apparently I thrive on confusion.
  11. Why should I be a tester? Experience! I have been chasing that little white orb around for 60 years. Played one year of collegiate golf before Uncle Sam called my number in the last group to have ever been conscripted. That was 1972 and the war in Vietnam was still going on. Fortunately, I remained stateside. But I did find the time to play a few military base tracks; some quite good golf courses! However, I am more than just a player. In the late 1980’s I began to do club repairs. There were no club repair schools back then, so I learned by reading, as well as the good old trial & error method. Many of those lessons were learned the hard way; including a reshaft of a set of 1961 Topflite blades with threaded shafts! (Left hand thread, as I recall.) One old school skill that I miss employing these days was the installation of whipping to the hosel of laminated and/or persimmon woods. I really believe I can provide some decent equipment insight because of longtime experience. From wound, true balata balls to modern multi-layer, from steel driver shafts to aluminum to fiberglass to graphite, I have played them all! Yes, I am old (71) but still a single digit handicap, and with a ton of experience that money cant buy!
  12. Well, this was certainly an eye opener! I have tested for other golf sites, but they had no where near the requirements of MGS. But, neither did those other sites provide the scientific insights that MGS does! During Covid shutdown I used MGS for a driver fitting. Let me just say that I am still using that particular driver! So, from personal experience I appreciate what MGS requires of their testers. Thanks for the insights into the process! I haven’t been chosen to test by MGS, but plan to up my game and keep applying when a product fits my profile.
  13. Sadly, this promo was a complete bust. I really like the Maxfli balls. Disappointing. Admins, please take a mulligan!
