  1. Looking for some advice on lie angles as I’m about to bring my irons in for their yearly loft/lie check. I have done some testing and am debating going 1 degree upright. I know lots dislike lie boards but at recent fitting I did, that’s what the fitter used. A lie board says I should be about 1.5 degrees upright. The marker line on the ball shows about 1 degree upright would be good. I also believe 1 upright might help a bit with toe strikes which are my tendency. Problem is, my miss with irons is an overdraw and sometimes a hook. Note for this next part, I’m a lefty. My really bad misses start a bit right of target and draw further right. Based on trackman I am still 5 degrees in to out so I must just close the face a ton on those misses. Even when I hit cuts trackman has my path in to out. My question is, will going 1 degree upright just exacerbate the aforementioned miss? Am I better off sticking with my usual standard lie despite the lie board and marker line on ball tests? Thanks in advance.
  2. Yoga can be a life changer for those with a chronically sore low back. For me, it was hip focused stretching and mobility work that was most effective in easing my back pain. Committing to it 2-3x per week worked best in my case. Highly recommend to anyone but especially those with some nagging back issues!
  3. First time posting to this thread but no better time than now as I was just given the green light to resume strenuous exercise after about a month of forced rest because COVID did a number on my lungs last month. Before that I was doing a lot of running, with the hopes of running a marathon in the fall of this year. That plan may have to be abandoned now, but I got back to both running and workouts this past weekend. I did a 4km run on Sunday which used to be a short and easy run for me, but I struggled and my heart rate was quite high the whole time. A bit demoralizing that I lost the fitness so quickly but looking forward to some of those newbie gains again. Also did a home bodyweight workout, mostly push-up variations and core for this first one back. I plan to ease back into to some kettlebell workouts that I was doing before. But would welcome anyone's tips for home workouts that are golf focused now that my season here in Canada is fast approaching.
  4. Mark me down as another guy who is pumped for the return of Anthony Kim. Haven't found LIV particularly entertaining the few times I have tuned in... but AK's presence will definitely have me keeping an eye on the leaderboard and tuning in when I can.
  5. 1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing golf seriously since 2017. However like many of us, I did play as a kid with my dad. But there was a large gap where I didn't play at all because other sports (primarily baseball) were my priority. My handicap is a 3 right now. Really hoping to get to scratch in the coming years! 2. What do you love about golf? A bit of everything. I think primarily it is an escape for me. It's endlessly complicated but also incredibly simple - get the ball in the hole in as few shots as possible. There are so many things to learn about (architecture, strategy, etiquette, the pro game, tournament prep, etc.) which means I never get bored of it. At the end of the day though I think it's the camaraderie and the great friendships I have gained that make me love golf. 3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I don't know any other Spies! I was a lurker for quite a while, consuming all the main content and then the forum boards as well. Now I have decided to enter the conversation too! 4. Where are you from? What is your home course? Canadian here. 5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Expensive. Whether green fees or membership dues, it is getting ridiculous here. Also requires some serious scheming to get tee times on the regular. 6. What do you do for a living? I am finishing up a PhD at the moment. I will keep the specific field/topic confidential because it will definitely dox me. 7. How’d you pick your user name? You know a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous
  6. Have been testing 4 hybrid vs. 4 iron lately and go back and forth quite a bit. As one might expect, the 4 hybrid does a much better job at getting up in the air and coming in steep on the greens. Have hit some truly impressive (for me) approaches into longer par 4s and long par 3s with it. The distance consistency also seems better on mishits. However, the right-left dispersion seems a little wider than the 4 iron. Of course the 4 iron comes out lower and looks to peak lower. On mishits I lose a lot more yardage, coming up short. But also, it seems the left-right dispersion is a little tighter. Also much easier to control in the wind. But, I don't hit the ball particularly high so 4 iron into longer par 4s or par 3s often doesn't stop. Anyway, I think for now I will stay with the 4H setup and maybe if it's super windy take the 4 iron.
