  1. I've been messing around with counter weighting a bit, though not in a scientific enough fashion (yet) to say anything conclusive. We do plan on putting counter weighting through an MGS Lab in the near future. But then again, if you listen to the people out front, those aren't worth s*** anyway. ;)

FWIW, it's a relatively inexpensive experiment, certainly cheaper than swapping shafts all over the place.

  2. That has to be the first time I've ever heard anyone tell someone to avoid full swing practice if they are playing well! Would you mind expanding on that a bit?

I know you weren't asking me, but I'll throw in my two cents:

I think the point you're missing in James' response is the idea of not going to the range unless you're working on something. I would agree with this. Too many people go to the range to meaninglessly beat balls. If you have no intent for your practice, it is unlikely you will derive any major benefit. It could be something technical like a certain position you're trying to ingrain, it could be tempo, or it could be hitting certain types of shots, but you need to have something specific that you're working on when you go to the range.

  3. I know you are joking around... However, I see way too many people get on par 3 tee boxes with irons in hand and not use a peg.

I was taught very young age that the tee box is the only place you can control your lie, why not put it on a peg even using an iron? I just tee up the ball enough so that the bottom barely hovers over the blades of grass, you really can't see the tee with the ball sitting on it when it comes to anything less then fairway metal.

I've heard this quite often, but the only thing I tee up is my driver. Doesn't matter how much I push the tee down, putting a ball on the tee makes me think "Swing up."

  4. One of our members suggested that instead of having questions sent to some of our resident pros via PMs or scattered amongst other threads, the questions could be all filed here so that everyone could benefit. So, if you have a question for James from Golf Circuit or any of the other pros who frequent the site, post them here.

  5. I can't say that I'm terribly impressed, especially for $250. To call this a launch monitor is...a stretch. It measures ballspeed and that's it. To extrapolate distance on ball speed alone is suspect. Depending on launch angle and spin, you can see huge variances in distance, especially with the driver.

  6. I was at a demo day recently at a fairly snooty country club and the Cobra-Puma guy was bumping tunes the entire time. Not uber-loud, but noticeable from one end of the range to the other. Live the image, I guess. I liked it.

  7. I personally do not listen to music much when I drive, although I drive about 300 miles a month unless I take my wife to Dallas. I put more miles on my golf car than I do on my Range Rover per day.

I would love to be able to make a claim like this. One day...

  8. yea, I didn't believe that ball drill was a quick fix, it might be for some people but for others it might come more slowly. It sounds like I got you hooked at this point they have some really good concepts in the downswing sequence and some fun drills to use to fell the proper movements.

1 club in irons is normally what 10 - 12 yards for most people that is a big distance gain really. at 165 you go from 7iron say down to a 8iron, what is gonna be easier to hit closer? Probably the 8 iron, at least that is my stance on it.

Driver, you should watch the bonus videos "bomb you driver series" it has some great information in there.

I'm surprised that you say that, I found the Bomb Your Driver Series disappointing. Wasn't much I hadn't seen, read, or heard elsewhere.

I do think the downswing stuff is great. I feel like so much of it speaks directly to the things I fight.

  9. I have to say that my favorite thing about Rotary Swing is the mix of drills and advice for beginners, intermediate, and better players. Most sites you go to are geared towards one set of problems (usually slicing), which makes it of limited value.

As far as that drill I mentioned, I did pick up a full club with my irons and hit the ball beautifully straight (on GOOD swings). It wasn't the magic elixir, 12 second cure all that the site claimed, but it's definitely something I am going to be working on. I could see some good results with the driver, too, but it was not quite as consistent. Going to keep working.

  10. I read this and started laughing, I feel into the Phase 5 videos a lot specifically the hip spinner stuff and how the release and lower body works in the down swing. Before I started in on RST I was a right side pusher / hip spinner bad getting trapped a lot. proper sequence and proper release give just same amount of distance I had swinging out of my shoes but more effortlessly, it is cool feeling to just feel lazy and bust one 300 off the tee.

I'm looking forward to that feeling.

I've gone through a weird progression from being an arms-y swinger with limited power, then a "hip spinner"/too-much-left-side-downswing where I picked up some power and distance, but the driver is just too unpredictable.

At every stage, I've always felt like I should have more clubhead speed. Not that I ever felt like I needed it or that it was the missing link, but I just felt that, based on my age/strength/etc, I should hit it farther. Now (I hope), I will.

  11. HOLY *#$&! JMiller, I just watched the "Throw The Ball" drill (Phase 5) and I felt like they were talking about me the entire time. I'm taking that one into the bay tomorrow. If it works like they claim...wow...because I'd really like another 18 MPH of clubhead speed...a lot. Hell, I'd take 10. Report to follow.

  12. I agree with you, it might not be THE way, but i think it's a pretty good way IF AND ONLY IF you commit to the drills and slowly work your way up from '1st gear' to '5th gear' over time, he suggests for the people that don't have time or can't commit to look at RS1.0

I love the takeaway idea, it is just easier and less the think about when learning, only thing that can happen is that in better players (myself included) it turns into a stack and tilt move where the weight doesn't shift and load on the back leg enough.

Matt the down swing sequence fits Burnt Edges Consulting Hybrid backswing position at the top if that gives you an idea what to expect (Bruce and I have chatted a little about Full Swing).

I am disappointed that I didn't see that parallel before: little bump, then turn, very nice call.

I think that the weight shift is under-emphasized in their videos, or, more specifically, it doesn't seem built into the rest of the takeaway moves. Lots of emphasis on shoulder blade glide, not enough on the importance of the shift.

  13. GolfSpy Matt you get a chance to take a look at more video, I know you are an instructor be fun to read the insight that you have on the videos.

I've watched everything up through Phase 3, and I'm halfway through Phase 4. Overall I'm pretty impressed with the presentation and the way things are explained. While I generally don't care for anyone who says, "This is THE way to do things," I would say that they/he does a good job with the tone of his videos. Also, I appreciate that he needs to say that his way is best because it's what he's selling and, I would guess, he believes it.

There are definitely some thoughts and feelings that I am adopting with some of my students. I particularly like the idea of the takeaway as a pull instead of a push.

I also appreciate the fact that he doesn't BS about how long change takes. My only concern with recommending this system to someone is knowing whether or not they are the type to do all the drills and totally rebuild their swing.

I'm eager to get into the downswing stuff, but I'm trying to work through it all methodically.
