Played SLDR today and it did not go well. I haven't played it in 4 or 5 rounds so I didn't expect the greatest but #1 was a low heel shot that ended up OK, #2 was pounded and a great drive. #3 I topped, ball mark 10 inches ahead of the tee and didn't make it to the fairway. #4 was a par 3, but #5 was a mediocre swing resulting in a weak fade and #6 was very similar with a weak fade. I ditched a wedge so I could bring 2 drivers and I'm glad I did. I ditched it for the F6+ for the rest of the round and didn't have another bad drive. I at best had my "B" swing with me today and I finally realize that a B swing with a more forgiving driver results in OK shots, a B swing with SLDR results in some very uncomfortable places for a 2nd shot. It's a good chance that I'm getting used to hitting a 460cc driver and I just need to spend more time this year with SLDR and I'd love it again, but I'm not sure I want to go through the ups and downs off the tee. At this point I have a sinking suspicion that SLDR is not going to make the cut. Now I just need to go get my fitting and see what happens, The only thing I can say with confidence is that I won't be playing a SLRD-C this season

The new XR lineup is one I'd like to hit when I go get fitted, the Pro along with the Sub Zero are both intriguing. I'm worried Sub Zero isn't going to be adding any forgiveness though. It's been years since I've hit a Cally driver so I'd like to give them a shot.

I'm very much aware of the thread title, I'm the one who created it. I appreciate your passion for the SLDR-C, but I'm going to take T's word on it's creation over yours. No offense intended there, but I know where he get's his information from. Also just because two things share the same name doesn't mean I consider it in the same family. The SLDR-C bears as many similarities to the original as me writing PING on a piece of wood with a sharpie and calling it an Answer. Neither have any bearing in my quest to find something that can knock my SLDR out of the bag.

Bobcat - I'm very glad you are happy with your SLDR-C, it's a wonderful thing when you find a driver that works for you. For the purpose of this thread though I trust T when he tells it like it is. I think we can move on from the C conversation.

Sound doesn't really affect me. I'm more concerned with where the ball goes, than how it sounds getting there.

3rd round playing the F6+ AD BB combo. All I can say at this point is that it's very consistent. I don't feel like I have the occasional bombs that I did with the SLDR, but at the same time I don't have the occasional snap hooks that I had with it either. Still have no idea why this has happened, but when I put the weight all the way forward I hit nothing but high fades, when I put the weight all the way back the trajectory comes down and I can hit straight balls again. Basically the exact opposite of how it's supposed to work. Wife got me a driver fitting for my birthday so I play on doing that soon and I'll see how the numbers shake out.

Does that hold true for a SLDR to M-series jump as well?

First chance I've had to play since the 3rd so went to the range for the first time this year and tested some stuff out. M1 430 + Diamana - Still a combo I could play. Doesn't feel quite the same as the SLDR, not worse but for some reason doesn't feel quite as explosive off of the face. Having a hard time putting the difference in to words. F6+ w/ AD BB - I've had it set at weight forward and 9.5 draw since I've been testing it. I've not been able to hit anything but high fades with it the whole time. The nice part is a very predictable ball flight, just not necessarily the ball flight I'm looking for. Today I switched the weight to all the way back, same 9.5D loft and same AD BB shaft. For some reason the ball flight actually came down and now I can hit it straight and sometimes a slight draw. Have to thank T for suggesting moving the weight back to pick up some additional draw bias. Weather today was mid 40's and 10mph wind. It actually was snowing for a couple holes. I hit some drives with the F6+ though that I would be very happy with in 80 degrees and calm. Still haven't been in for a fitting but I'm definitely playing this combo in my round tomorrow. Supposed to be mid 60 and lower wind so should be a better test of how it performs. Barbajo - Tried the HZRDUS one more time on the range, definitely not for me. Let me know if you are seriously interested.

Love my Speedblades, I own 4-GW, but only play the 6i-9i with my current setup. My vote is to try the current grips first. If you like them great, if not you can always swap them later.

First round of posting handicap season today so had to pick one setup and play it rather than hitting all of them. I decided to go with M1 but I swapped in the Diamana from my SLDR. Wind was dead in to us for the majority of holes and blowing 20ish so not the greatest weather for driving results, but I was pretty happy all day. M1 is definitely capable of poor results with a poor swing, but it didn't seem like mishits were punished quite as badly as with the SLDR. I hit a few I thought would end very poorly and weren't nearly as bad as I thought This is definitely a combo I could comfortably play all year, still plan on going in for a fitting though. Also still not sure it's better than my SLDR setup. Not worse though either...

I had to put down $50k as a non-refundable pre-order deposit. The really weird part though was that the checkout was through the MGS donation page ...

Very interesting, I never thought about closure rates with the weight forward. I ended the round with the 430 set at 10 degrees, all the way to draw and the front-to-back setting at neutral. It did seem a little easier to keep from going right in that setting. With the F6+ I just put the weight all the way forward and left it. I haven't played around with different setting on that one. Ball flight comparison is interesting between those to two heads though. The 430 at 10 and neutral flights much lower for me than the F6+ at 9 and all the way forward. I'd like to try the F6+ Pro head to see if I can bring the flight down a little and allow me to move the weight back. Might be a case of "famous last words" but I'm not buying another head until I go get fit

The F6+ has been really interesting to hit. I never had a big miss with it, but everything was a fade. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but I've been working for the past 3 seasons on trying to hit a draw with the driver and when you can't that's frustrating. I'm sure a lot of that is my early season swing and colder temps. After playing SLDR for so long it's just odd to have a driver that always feels pretty much the same no matter how you hit it. Nuke one and it's about the same as a toe job. When you nuke one with SLDR you really know you nuked it, and it goes and goes. Maybe that's what I'm actually looking for and I just don't know it.

I've just never been a fan of blades without necks. Something about that double bend shaft straight into a blade just irks me. That said I play a double bend straight into a #7 and have no issues with it. I'm weird

2nd round in the books with the M1. Played it solo today and didn't hit SLDR at all. Still paired with the Kiyoshi Black. I have the 10.5 430 head and I set it at full fade and all the way front. Hosel was 1.5 lower so 9 degree loft. Ball flight was looking a little funky, almost knuckle ball-ish so after a few holes I set the front-to-back slider to neutral and upped the loft to 10 degrees. Those settings felt much better and was getting a consistent mid-high ball flight with a straight or slight fade. Still only 45-48 degree's outside so not swinging my best but I had no big misses. I'm really starting to think I need some professional advice to dial in a driver and see if it's better than SLDR. Next round is on Sunday, still not sure what setup get's the nod.

Right now that's my plan. Some time in the next few weeks. I've played 5 1/2 rounds so far so I'd like to play a few more in nicer weather and try and get my swing back before going in for a fitting. At this point any of the three are playable, but I need to find something that's clear cut better before I'll replace the SLDR.

First round in the books playing with the M1. I paired it with the Kiyoshi Black for this round. I would say at best I had my 'B' swing with me today. Also it's 60 and blowing 20mph with gusts to 25-30mph so not the easiest day to have a driver shoot out. Preliminary thoughts on the M1 are that it's just as good as the SLDR. I haven't played around with moving any of the weights yet, but I think it may need some tweaking. For this round I set them to all the way draw and all the way forward. I'm going to play with the front-to-back setting a little for next time. I also want to try my SLDR shaft in it. Bottom line so far is that it's a contender. I don't think it's any longer than the SLDR for me. I would say it plays very similar so far though. I had a few holes where I hit both M1 and SLDR and a few holes were I hit M1 and F6+. Very different ball flights but for the most part they ended up all in the same spot. And if they are all going to end the same then I might as well keep playing SLDR. No decisions made yet at this point though. F6+ and M1 are still in the mix.

Going to give it a little more time, but if it continues the way it's been it's going to be up for grabs. The F6+ warrants further testing. Hanging on to it for now. The King LTD head is going to be sold, just haven't made the ad yet. i was going to wait and see if I wanted to get rid of any shafts at the same time. Are you interested?
