  1. I had a hit in my club Wednsday competition yesterday. And for the first time in what felt like months played half decently. I came 5th in a field of about 65 players and managed to shoot 81 one under my current daily index and bang on my current Golf Australia index. I probably would have shot a 79 but from my "good" mate (a 3 handicapper) giving me the kiss of death after I birdied the 16th. He said "All you and I have to do is make 2 pars from here and we'll shoot 79 each." Now I'm one of those guys who is a great believer in the song "The Gambler" especially the line that says "there's time enough for counting when the day is done..." I stepped up on the 17th tee and all I had going through my head was "79" and got to make two pars and of course made two bogeys. It was a case of what could have been. Suffice to say at least I'm feeling like there is hope for my game now.
  2. All I can say about my game yesterday is "you know you are having a bad day when you can't even throw your clubs where you want them to go!". And yep it was that bad.
  3. Played my first serious round back since my weeks sojourn in hospital. Managed to shoot 81 (43, 38) which was bang on my current H/C index. It included a 70 yard pitch that took one bounce and got lost in the darkness at the bottom of the cup for birdie and saved my partner and I a buck in the side bets. We were getting annihilated by a pair of 20 something handicappers and had leaked so much oil there was none left to leak. It was a great day, with much laughter and mutual trash talking as well as respect when good shots were made. Still only running at about 90% but glad to be out there on the fairways!
  4. How about Clemson beating Notre Dame! Go the Tigers!
  5. Thanks for that mate, comments like that warm my heart. I think we all could use a little heart warming now and then
  6. I would kill to be able to walk 18 holes again. I need both knees replaced thanks to running with boots, weapons and pack over the years and my back and hips aren't real flash either so its the cart for this black duck!
  7. I did consider it Under but I couldn't bring myself to do it with the prospect of the whole bandwagon paradigm being thrown at me. We have fans over here that change teams faster than they change under wear depending on who is winning. Clemson are sort of middle of the road soooooo...
  8. Thanks Theo, knew I shoulda researched it better, Not much difference, wolf, Tiger whatever. Sort of appropriate cause I said earlier in the thread there must be a team called the tigers. I'm an aussie philistine I know, I know. Go Clemson!
  9. I've bitten the bullett and selected a college team to follow for the season. I used a very scientific method to select my team - which one had the coolest logo The lucky winners were Clemson with their wolf footprint. I'm guessing it is a wolf footprint, something tells me I should have done more research and I'm going to get paid out on. The good news is they won their first game so go you good thing. Clemson!
  10. Finally played some golf like I know I can today. I had a great start and eagled the first hole. A great drive of about 260 yards and a 22 degree hybrid 210 yards, to the heart of the green that left a downhill left to righter of 20 feet that I managed to pour in the hole. That won me a dozen Srixon Z Stars. That pretty obviously was the highlight of the day and I shot 77 for a net 40 stableford points and came runner up on a countback for the voucher($20) and order of merit points. I also won a sleeve of Z Stars in the novelty nearest the pins and the like. The more I play with G Max irons the more I am learning their idiosyncrasies and learning almost to a yard how far I can hit them or not hit them. I'm glad I got over my ego and trusted my intuition regarding the purchase of them and that was confirmed after reading "T's" post in the game improvement iron thread on this board. Kor a Door if you read this mate, I know how you feel, and it's a place I'm coming back from, so keep on pluggin away and it will get better. Buy yourself some new clubs if it doesn't happen soon enough and at least you'll feel good about that!
  11. Congrats Sportsfan on your ace. You know though it didn't really happen because there was no one there to see it Frustrating too about the back nine, if I had a dollar for every time I've done that myself...
  12. Shot an 85 that could have been an 80. Couple of 3 putts didn't help, but my ball striking is improving. Driver let me down again and what is it with crooked bounces that stop behind trees. The Ketsch is out of the sin bin and despite the 3 putts (2) it felt like an old friend in my hands and I made some clutch putts with it too that included two birdies. Shot of the day was a 215 yard 4 iron third shot from the rough on a par 5 that was one of those birdies. It was nearly an eagle and grazed the pin as it went past. I sure wasn't thinking birdie when I addressed the ball just getting it close to the green. The extra yardage I'm getting with the G Max irons hasn't hurt at all.
  13. To answer my own question there are apparently 45 teams in College Football that call themselves the "Tigers". The only one I've really heard of is Clemson. From memory they seem to get mentioned a lot on ESPN and are contenders at the end of the year.
  14. Sandra Bullock is hot in whatever she plays in. Didn't realise Ol Miss was so unpopular. Well, go the Tigers then. Must be a team called the Tigers everyone has a team called the Tigers some where
  15. Nah Under we don't hate ya, at least I don't. I don't know enough about team or fan rivalries way over here. I've rooted for teams for no other reason than I like the colours they wear. College games and NFL games are such a spectacle I just love watching them whoever is playing. Stupid question here but is it Bama that have the nick name the Crimson tide? *ducks head just in case*. And is it true that Tennessee bury the bodies under the football field to study decay rates?
