  1. I’m pretty sure I overthought the whole process. My grip was pretty worn and needed replacing. I went to mid size grips on all my other clubs and thought it might make sense on my putter too. I hated the new grip almost immediately, but thought it would just take an adjustment period. 2 rounds and a lot of practice later and I’m still hating it, so you’re right I should change back.
  2. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it? Probably shouldn’t have made the change to begin with.
  3. Putting has always been the best part of my game. I love my putter, I’ve had it for about 7 years and i can’t imagine a scenario where I’d get rid of it. I recently had it re gripped from the standard grip I’ve always had to a mid sized grip and I can’t seem to hit a straight putt anymore. I’m pulling everything left and it’s driving me nuts. How long do I give it before I go back to a standard grip?
  4. We’re practically neighbors, I’m in Inman. I’ve never played Greer CC or Paris Mountain, both are on my list to play though. Let me know if you ever want to get a round in. I try to play weekday afternoons as much as possible.
  5. I have a pair of older FJ dry joys that I wear if it’s a little muddy during practice, a newer pair of FJ S/Ls that I rotate with a pair of Adidas Tech Response spikeless.
  6. Just booked my appointment, interested to see what they say. I switched from callaway to titleist earlier this year, first velocity then tour speed.
  7. My wife surprised me with a weekend at Pinehurst last summer and I played 2 and 7. The timing of the weekend was as terrible as it could be, as I had been working through some swing changes and they were compounded by brand new clubs that I wasn’t used to yet. I still had a blast spraying shots all over number 2, and although I didn’t have a good score, my putter was lights out. I finished with no 3 putts, 29 total putts including several made longer than 30 feet. Definitely an extremely challenging course, and as you mentioned, the atmosphere surrounding it adds another element.
  8. Harbour Town was incredibly difficult, as there is zero room for error off the tee and the course is so tight that if you’re not in the right part of the fairway you have to be able to shape your shot to have a chance at the green. Great course though, reallY enjoyed shooting over 100 there. I’m not far from there, is it public? I love trying out new courses, even when they’re way harder than I should play.
  9. I was always team Footjoy for golf shoes, but a great deal on Adidas Tech Response spineless shoes gave me a reason to branch out and I’m glad I did. They are as or more comfortable than any FJ I’ve ever had. I think the big difference will be water resistance, but I rarely play in wet conditions so it likely won’t be a huge issue.
  10. I’m a watch guy. The only time I don’t wear one is in the shower and when I’m sleeping. I have a variety of auto and mechanical watches and a Garmin I wear when I golf.
  11. I have a 2x12’ birdie ball mat and I love it. I’ve found that using the inserts to cover the holE on one or both ends has allowed me to putt almost the full length of the mat, and when I add on the putt out trainer I’m nearly at 12’.
  12. I love these irons, they’re so easy to hit. When I was getting my fitting I thought for sure I’d end up with Mavriks, since I’d been gaming Callaways for years and loved them. They were bottom of the list performance wise after my fitting. My top two were the 919 and Wilson D7s and it was really close. Ping 410s (I think) were 3rd, had the best feeling but lacked the distance the 919 and D7s had.
  13. Yeah this is what I’m afraid of. I’ve seen a couple that look like the cage setup you’re taking about but they are more expensive.
  14. I’ve thought about doing this, but my wife won’t want something that’s always up. I can build one above my shop at work, but then I have to stay at work longer to use it.
  15. What is the best backyard net that doesn’t break the bank? I see a lot of them that are 10’ wide and 7’ tall, is that big enough? I feel like I might miss, mostly on the height although I suppose if I’m close enough it shouldn’t be an issue.
  16. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I’ve played off and on since college, most years playing 15-20 rounds until my kids were born and then I played less than 20 rounds in 5 years. I moved from PA to Upstate SC in 2019 and golf became a way to meet new people and a year round option. Now I’m obsessed and set a goal of 40 rounds in 2021 after 35 in 2020. My goal was always to break 100 and to have fun, but now I’ve set my sights on breaking 80 (my low round of 84 has been done 3 times). My handicap was 23-24 early in 2020 and I’m down to just under 16 now with a goal to hit single digits What do you love about golf? It’s a great way to get outside, get some exercise and be competitive. Plus my kids are starting to take an interest in it after seeing me practice and play so much lately. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? A friend sent me the link after MGS was featured on ESPN. I don’t think I know any others. Where are you from? What is your home course? I I’ve near Spartanburg SC, and play the most at Links O’Tryon in Campobello, SC. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best thing is that I can play year round. Worst is that golf courses are busy year round. What do you do for a living? I work in construction safety How’d you pick your user name? I love mechanical watches.
  17. I have a lot of my Grandparents old clubs, irons, woods, wedges, putters, even some old balata balls. My favorite is this old wooden putter my grandmother played with when she was a member at Plainfield Country Club.
  18. 2020 saw a shift in my golf game. I got fitted for the first time and kept only 3 clubs from my bag. I re worked my swing, dropped my handicap from 24 to 16 and played more rounds (35) than the previous 5 years combined. I even changed ball allegiances. Without further adieu, here is what’s in my bag: Ping G410+ driver Taylormade Burner 3W* Cobra Speedzone 3h Mizuno JPX 919 Hot Metal 4-GW Cleveland CBX2 54 degree wedge Cleveland Smart Sole 2.0 58 degree wedge* Ping Scottsdale Piper C putter* The 3 clubs I kept are the 3 with the * I got a free set of arccos sensors with the Cobra Hybrid and I extended that subscription after the initial trial period. After playing Callaway balls for years, I switched to Titleist, first Velocity, then switched to Tour Speed. I set a goal of 40 rounds for 2021, and want to get to a single digit handicap. I am taking some online lessons and early returns are promising. I shot an 89 on a difficult course in cold, windy conditions this week, so I’m feeling pretty food about how this year will shape up for me. I’ll likely upgrade my 3w and 58* wedge this year but you’d have to pry that putter out my cold lifeless hands before I switched it out. Been reading MGS for a year or so, but haven’t posted much. Feel free to comment or ask questions about my clubs.
  19. Rob Inman, SC size 13 footjoy pro SL comfort and water resistance are my top two priorities
  20. Rob L, Upstate South Carolina handicap 20.8 current irons callaway x24 hot 160 carry with 7 iron
