I thought it would be fun to see what fellow Spies have created for their own training purposes.
I was up late last night (couldn't sleep) so I decided to work on my putting.  I have a tendency to miss near the toe of the putter.
I recalled seeing devices you could put on your putter face to help strike the middle more often.  So I decided to make my own.
What I started with was just masking tape on all but the very center of the putter face.  That wasn't really providing the feedback I wanted, so I put two pennies underneath the tape.
Now that gives you some amazing feedback.  Miss the middle and hit the pennies and the ball goes offline and you hear KLANK.
Here is a video of it:

It is complete. A lil bit of an eye sore but same can be said with my golf outfits. Will be building a platform for my Big Moss green to put in here as well.

evcihon reacted to Topher178 in Vice vs. Snell Blind Test
    Hi All,
I just wanted to share my experience with Vice and Snell. It all started last year. I was a little in between on ball selection with the Vice Pro and Pro+. Then while I was playing i found a Snell MTB-Black near the hazard that I picked up and figured I'd give it a try. I played that ball for about 5 weeks at league and a few rounds during that time. So I was intrigued as I had never even heard about them. My friend that I always golf with was skeptical. And frankly stubborn. He was convinced he had the ball he wanted to always play.
So here's what I ended up doing: I ordered the sample pack that has two sleeves of the MTB-X and MTB-Black. I already had some Vice on me that were brand new. I took all four balls and covered all the markings with a marker. Boxed it all off equally trying to not let on what any could have been. We live in North Dakota so it's just indoor simulators for us right now. But we went to the range. I told my buddy it was just to get a few swings in. So we get started, I pull the range session up and we start looking at all the details. I'd put 1-4 on the ball and only I knew which was which, then I asked him to do the same for me. So let's see what these can do in a blind test.
It was really eye opening when you don't have the preconceived idea of what a ball is supposed to do and what it actually does. I was actually very impressed with the Snell MTB- Black results the most. I'll have to do this again but in an order and clearly marked to show some data points for all the trackman number for the data nerds like me. All of the numbers we were seeing, he was convinced it was his Vice. But I saw a significant jump from 10-15 yds with PW-8 iron. I was thinking about it as it could potentially cause me to change up some club selections it was making such a difference. The ball would just absolutely fly off the face. I could even feel the difference. Now the reason I say this is when you look at the website trying to decide. Their chart is kind of confusing. It has the same details for driving and around the green. But differences with feel and spin. It just made me chuckle because it made me wonder why show it if they are the same. But as I did the research, which I probably do way to much of, it made me realize what Snell was going for and he really does simplify it when watching the videos. Keep in mind he's trying to market them.
With the other 3 balls I would say they were all around the same spin rate, distance, launch, etc. There wasn't a noticable difference when hitting the Pro and Pro+ between each other for me. Which makes sense why I could never decide between the two. Although I will say, what I like about these 3 was that the spin was down a little bit. And if you've ever been to the frozen tundra of the Red River Valley. " It's windy" can the biggest understatement I could ever make in this post. We can have some great weather in the summer. Don't get me wrong, it's worth the cold in my opinion. But some days it can be 30mph winds at league and you just have to figure it out. There are not many trees around. So what I'm going to do is still have some MTB-X on hand for those windy days. That ball will really have it's advantages on those days.
I just wanted to write a little story about how things may not be as they seem when you know what you are hitting. And to try something new. I was thoroughly impressed and I'll be gaming some MTB-Black to start the year. With an MTB-X on standby. And yes, my friend said throw an extra dozen of the MTB-Black on the order too. He seemed be convinced to throw a few in the bag this year also. Order some samples, maybe get a friend to set up a blind test for you too? Then it will inspire you to know you have the right ball for you, whichever it may be. And hit some drives. But really work the scoring clubs. Use your wedges and the 9 or 8 iron. That's where you want to get those birdie chances and confidence from.
Thanks for taking the time to read my opinion on this. I'm going stir crazy here since the outbreak and we still have a lot of snow. But warm weather is coming and hopefully opening the courses in April.
    That is all. Take care

evcihon reacted to adamflowers in Rukket Sports Haack Golf Net and Tri-Turf Mat
UPDATE 7/8/20: After a few months of nearly everyday usage, I finally made a hole in the netting. Like I said, I use the net almost everyday, and I don't treat it with much care (leave it out in the rain, etc.). I am extremely pleased that the net has lasted this long without a single tear, so I would not let this discourage anyone form purchasing it. I'm just updating the post with how long it took for a SINGLE hole to appear.

    Hey Everyone,
Back for another review of part of my quarantine setup. Today I'll be reviewing the Haack Golf Net and the Tri-Turf Mat, both made by Rukket Sports. As of the writing of this review, all golf nets appear to be sold out on their website, so it's clearly been a hot quarantine item. Just to clarify, this is NOT a review of the Haack Golf Net Pro.
Additionally, it appears that MyGolfSpy was unable to procure this specific net for their Best Net 2020 list, so I thought I’d add my input.
First off, this is my first net made specifically for golf, but I grew up using a lot of portable nets for baseball. The first thing I noticed about the net and mat was the size of the carrying case: small and relatively thin. The carrying case zips up and hold all of the requisite equipment for setup, INCLUDING THE TRI-TURF MAT. That feature alone is very welcome, and I underestimated how nice it would be.
    Setup:
The net includes a brief instruction sheet that appears lacking in detail but is relatively easy to follow. In my experience, the setup is easy and intuitive. Once I set the net up once, I was able to break it down and rebuild it without looking at the instructions again. The process is quite fast, too! I can easily set it up or break it down in 2-3 minutes. The tri-turf mat folds nicely into a compact shape, as well.
    Placement:
The net comes with stakes to hold it down, but I’m using it on concrete, so I haven’t had to use them. When setup, the net feels sturdy, and I had no problems with wind blowing it around (although I wasn’t using it in the windiest of settings). I placed the tri-turf mat around 8ft from the net.

    Performance:
Overall, the net does what it’s intended to do well: stop golf balls. I hit every club in the bag, and the net held up great with each one. For my money, the ONLY downside of this net is the lack of ability to catch balls without them hitting the ground and rolling back to you. Often, this won’t matter because it will be used on a soft surface like grass. Because I am using it on concrete, however, the balls coming off of the net are easily scuffed. To fix this, I placed a bit of cardboard under the net to help soften the balls’ landings. This has worked relatively well, but, if you’re using it on a hard surface, you MUST use something to dampen the impact of the ball coming off the net!
Like the net, the tri-turf mat is of high quality. It has three difference types of simulated grass: rough and two tight lies. You are able to place driver tees into the mat, too. The bottom of the mat is padded, and when I placed it on the concrete and hit balls, it still felt soft and did not slide. My only gripes with the mat are that the edges can get damaged if they are hit with a club (thanks inconsistent swing!) and I wasn’t sure what the practical differences of the two fairway lies were.
Overall, I don’t think I could be happier with my purchase. The most important qualities for me EASE OF SETUP AND TAKE DOWN and STURDINESS. I was initially dreading setting up and taking down a flimsy net, but the reality couldn’t be farther from the truth. The mat, too, is a great added value and looks to be of the same high-quality construction as the net. Whenever these come back in stock, I would HIGHLY recommend a purchase.

    Hi All,
I’m from Batavia, OH.  That’s about 20 miles east of downtown Cincinnati.  It’s a great area for golfers — lots of courses per golfer around here, so it’s easy to get onto a decent course for $30-35 greens fees.
My league plays Hickory Woods GC as its home course.  But we play away on alternate weeks, so we get to play a lot of courses in the Cincinnati area.
I started playing when I was about 13 y.o.  My then-50-y.o. step father had a scratch handicap and a swing like BenHogan’s. I learned my swing from him.  Most who see it wish theirs looked like mine. But, I have to be honest here, it has never worked for me like it did for him.  Typically, I score in the low 90s.  My best-ever score was 82, which I shot at Hickory woods about five years ago.
I’d sure like to break 80.  I’m a retired mechanical engineer.  Since retiring I’ve spent a lot of time studying the golf swing and improving mine.  My game has improved quite a bit.  Also, I can still consistently drive the ball 220 yds, so I think my chances of breaking 80 are pretty good.  But I recently passed my 83 birthday, so it is going to have to happen soon.
Oh, about "VanTrago," my pseudonym:  I chose that for two reasons: first, I wanted a name that would be unique and easily remembered, and second, I liked the sound of it.  Well, Google is now telling me that it is not as unique as I had expected.  Perhaps, "O'Fallahan" (which I've used on other sites) would have been better.

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?  I've been playing golf on and off for about 20 years. Started with my Grandpa taking me to the course and taking all of his advice. Never really had lessons, (other than everyone I golf with telling me what I'm doing wrong). My normal score is about 100.
What do you love about golf? I love being out in the open spaces and competing against myself to be better when I get the chance to get out.
What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Found MyGolfSpy through No Putts Given on Youtube. I was also looking at a new ball to get my dad for Christmas. I stumbled upon#finditcutit. Now I've started watching No Putts Given from episode 1. I also love all of the branding, hit squad shirts are killer and if I ever get to the place to test a product, I will buy a hit squad shirt.
Where are you from? What is your home course? I'm from Wooster, Ohio and I don't have a home course yet, but a course called Riceland seems to be the top contender.
What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best, Courses aren't usually completely packed and most people play pretty quickly. Worst, there is more emphasis on weekend golfing and carts rather than walking and honing skills. I usually feel like I'm in the way if I walk.

I played Riceland last summer for the first time. Decent track and I had a lot of fun. Keep an eye out for Ohio get-togethers. We usually try to play a couple times a year.
