  1. That could be where I am at. I also checked the superspeed website and am at the point where I can start identifying and improving where I am losing power. Then I can start incorporating those training protocols into my routine. I am willing to bet it is most likely through not using the ground or not maintaining lag. I did start swinging looser this week and have been seeing some of my previous glimpses of speed.
  2. Hard to say how I am going to do testing. I would like to do some data collection of some kind but being it as ball testing the strike and swing input would have to be nearly identical to see if there is any sort of difference. it seems like there is going to be a lot of short game testing going on though amongst the testers.
  3. Same driver as before the lesson and I feel like I am swinging just as hard but it's not showing up as fast on trackman which is what I have been using to measure my club head speed. My numbers from the swing speed training itself have been consistent still and I hit a new personal best with the green stick at 142mph. Maybe once I finish level 3 I will take a break and monitor my speed and see how that goes.
  4. Had a lesson a few weeks ago and my speed has gone down from comfortably at 112 to struggling to hit 110. Has anyone else had this issue while going through the superspeed protocols? I am currently 2 weeks away from completing level 3 and I am not sure if I should press on ward when I am done with level 3 or wait until I get my speed back up.
  5. Irons are performing phenomenally. Plenty of stopping power on the greens and I really love the AW and the fact that it looks like a traditional wedge from the back and not the cavity back design is a huge plus. It still does have the same sole as the rest of the set of irons as well as the laser milled grooves so spin is not an issue on the scoring clubs. My GIR have improved since adding them to my bag and the predictability of these irons is exactly what I am looking for. I have had 2 rounds with 8 GIR which for me is unheard of. The clubs are repeatable and I know if I have to hit a low 4 iron out of trouble it is going to stay low and naturally cut. This is also my first set of fully forged clubs and they are do not disappoint but it did hurt a bit to see the bag chatter but I learned to get over that quickly as it happens. These irons have definintly been fitting the bill and the output I put in is the same as a I get out. Good swings are rewarded and bad swings are punished slightly but do not take you out of the hole. A few more rounds in and I will start posting the arccos data.
  6. I've played a total of 4 rounds so far with the SM8's and so far they have not disappointed me one bit. A few things I have noticed about the SM8's in particular is the finish has been holding up very nicely so far. I have had my fair share of bunker shots and there is zero wear and tear on any part of the club face or finish. This isn't to say that it will never fade however if I can get through this summer without any crazy wear on them I will be content. In terms of getting up and down I have been getting up and down with ease from all kinds of lies. I had 7 up and downs and 2 of them were from the sand in one round and on average I have been getting up and down about 5 times a round. I have had my doubts about the wedge selector picking the right grind and bounce for me at first but all of those doubts have been put to bed. Another thing that I have noticed for the first time is the importance of fresh sharp grooves. I always knew it was important but actually seeing it is what really drove it home as I was able to stop all my shots quickly without them running away and seeing someone with older wedges have their shots roll for miles. This was most evident on 30-50 yard pitch shots where my shots would simply bounce and come to a quick stop but my playing partners would roll out and away from the hole. This isn't something exclusive to Vokey wedges but more for anyone who wonders if sharp grooves really make that much of a difference they absolutely do.
  7. Initial on course testing was very surprising to say the least. I haven't had fresh wedges and fresh grooves ever in my golfing career so what I was hoping for the ball to spin an obscene amount. Now this is an unfair expectation for me as a lot of this also comes down to technique and not just sharp grooves. The most surprising thing so far has been the amount of pop that these have on well struck shots. The ball jumps off the face when struck in the middle and is very consistent in flight and rollout. This wasn't something I was expecting in the slightest and it did take some time to get used to. After about 2 rounds I made the appropriate adjustments to backswing on short chips and my short game has reaped the benefits. I have been finding myself getting up and down more as well as getting the ball inside the 5ft mark on those greenside chips. Out of the sand these wedges are fantastic as well. Confident swings are rewarded with a clubhead that just glides through the sand and soft contact with the ball. My current gamer ball is the Bridgestone Tour BX which is extra firm according to Ball Lab so a soft feel with this ball on a club that is not forged is a huge plus. So far the Vokey wedge recommender has been holding up and I am very happy with the wedges recommended for me. In terms of the finish there are zero signs of wear and tear which is what I want to see on a finish that cost me an additional $50. More on course testing to come as I am playing Saturday afternoon and that should be my 5th or 6th round so I can start to seeing some stats through Arccos I can post about the difference between old and new wedges.
  8. That's mostly why I did it was for the info out there. Their customer service was also fantastic and incredibly helpful. I initially ordered X100's in the wedges but after thinking it over after a week I called up and discussed the change to S400 for a bit more kick and they made sure it was so. The lead time was so long because of supply chain issues with shafts so if those issues get resolved they could have shorter lead times.
  9. I am one of the many unfortunate souls who does not have access to a full in depth wedge fitting where I can try different grind, loft, and bounce options in a variety of situations as you would with a wedge. Titleist however offers an online wedge selector tool and being in the market for some new wedges I decided a little bit of help is better than buying off the rack blindly. I also wanted to give the Vokey WedgeWorks process a try as well to get some custom stamping on my wedges to treat myself as well as see what other custom options are available to make them my own. The WedgeWorks Selector Tool: The online fitting tool is just as simple as any other online fitting tool and simply requires of you an honest assessment of your own golf game. The idea is that if you can give it that then you will get a relatively decent recommendation of which wedges will best suit your game. The area where I can see there being some issues down the line is the course and sand conditions that you play in. Here in New Jersey you can play the firmest conditions possible to conditions that are soft and borderline swampy so this part of the selector tool could be a murky but I you have the option to select that you play in both kinds of conditions. After it was all said and done I got recommended for a 56° S-grind with 10° of bounce and a 60° M-grind with 8° of bounce. These are the supposed to be the most versatile of grinds that Vokey has to offer and that is exactly what I need from these two wedges. My gap wedge is the stock AW that comes with the ZX7's as I only use my AW for full shots and not much else so this didn't need to be replaced. WedgeWorks Customization Now that I had my wedges set in terms of loft, bounce, and grind it was time to do the final customization through Vokey WedgeWorks. I wasn't able to simply go right from my recommendations to customizing them which wasn't annoying but is something that I believe could be improved upon. I simply opened up a new tab and was off to the races with my personalized new wedges. The first step was to choose your finish, loft, bounce, grind, and finish so I went with my wedge selector recommendations and chose Slate Blue for the finish which according to some is "The Best Finish". The next step was where you can really spend hours upon hours of customizing your perfect set of wedges to make them your own. Here you play with all of the custom stamping options available as well as the different paint fill options you can get. There are 12 different color options, 8 character stamping options, another set of color pattern combinations not being stamped, and symbol stamping. There are plenty of ways to make these wedges your own and that is just with stamping. I didn't spend too much time with customization of my wedges since I new going in that I was going to get my dogs names stamped onto my wedges so it was just about what color worked best for the finish and how I wanted the text to look. The next steps for creating your wedge is to choose if you want a different ferrule, shaft band, shaft, and grip. There are plenty of options here and if you don't know the kind of shaft you want or need I recommend a quick message to Titleist customer service and they will help get you into the right shaft as best they can. This is another area where there is room for improvement because there is no message bar for customer service on the Vokey website and something like this would be very helpful. For the time being you have to go back to Titleist and message a customer service rep on that site before going back to the WedgeWorks page. I ended up going with a custom ferrule, shaft band, Vokey Tour velvet 360 flat cap grip, and Dynamic Gold S400 shaft. I did appreciate that I was able to get the grip put on the side of my clubs as I like to play around with the layers of tape and the orientation of the grip itself. The final steps were laser etching, swing weight, loft, length, and lie adjustments. I opted out of the laser etching and the only other adjustments I made to my wedges were to have them 1.5° upright to match my lie angle specs of my irons. If this needed to be change a simple visit to my local fitter for the lie angle machine can fix and dial this in but this would be a good place to start for me. After all of these options if there is anything that was missed you can add it in the comment section and from there you review your order and can have it placed. Delivery Day: After about 8 weeks of painstakingly but somewhat patiently waiting for my wedges they arrived and the wait was worth it. The first thing I noticed was the beautiful black box that my wedges were delivered in. I always appreciate when a company has a custom box because it is not necessary to the customer but it is a nice finer touch that when unexpected is the icing on the cake and makes me a proud owner of those clubs. A little thing that I liked was the shaft protector caps at the end of my wedges. Again little details like that keep me coming back again and again. As mentioned earlier I got my wedges stamped with my dogs names on them and Hudson is my 7 month old black lab puppy and he is on my 56° for a reason. He is my big bruiser that is does everything and anything. Plus he lovers going to the beach and digging in the sand. so naturally he is perfect for my sand wedge. Tucker is my girlfriends little 7 year old chihuahua mix that is delicate and just likes to nestle up next to you and my 60° just needs to hit shots that nestle up nicely next to the pin. Both my wedges have the same grip, ferrule, and shaft band. I went with 3 additional wraps of tape under my grip and am the feel I like for my wedges. I blew on my grips with compressed air for the time being so if I want to add so more I can. All that's left is some on course testing so I will be sure to provide updates about on course performance as well as some Arccos data on whether these new wedges improve my short game or not. More updates to come!
  10. They are just fun clubs to hit and so satisfying when you find the middle of the clubface or even relative middle of the clubface for that matter.
  11. Love the white grips for the fact that when they get dirty it's time to clean them (something I could be more on top of). I played with the paint fill in the fast but the ZX7's are just so beautiful I don't want to mess around with them at least not yet. Srixon has done something special with the forgiveness of this iron and I am here for it.
  12. All great choices. I didn't get the hit the i210's but the T100's and MIM's were absolutely fantastic and I was incredibly surprised by their feel.
  13. Favorite part of the fitting is the process and trying all the different clubs. Put the ZX7's on your list for sure but I think a new MP line might be out by then depending on when in the fall your fitting is. I will be posting another update once I get 10 rounds under my belt so I've got about 5 more to go before a full update with some stats to go along with it.
  14. They feel so pure when hit on center. I demoed the Hogan Icons and PTX Pro's before my fitting and the ZX7's felt even better than those which definitely lived up to the signature "Hogan" feel.
  15. I do see where you are coming from with the size of the ZX7's and the ZX5's. Aside from the sole width I didn't see any difference in the size but the sole width disappears once you put the club down behind the ball. The reason I went with a full set of the ZX7's and not the ZX5's is that I anted a full set of ZX7's and I liked the 4 and 5 iron in my P790's so I figured if I need that extra forgiveness I can combo them up with them. And you are right the packaging blew me away as well and was the perfect final touch when picking up my clubs.
  16. Srixon ZX7 irons are in and have a few rounds under their belt. They are absolute beasts and I look forward to hitting them regardless of the yardage. I started an unofficial review thread below so for any questions feel free to ask them there. More reviews for all of the other updates to my bag but for now the irons are below.
  17. Flighted shots aren't an issue at all. My natural shot shape is a fade and I can flight it high or low no issues. a draw is where I tend to struggle but it can be done as this is more me than the club and I am working on this in my swing to be more in to out. High and low shots are also not a problem and i love that I can punch out some low shots in windy conditions. Every shot with my P790's was just way to high and the wind would eat me up and would come to a dead stop.
  18. About 3 months ago I was on the hunt for a new set of irons. I was previously gaming a set of P790's with Nippon Zelos 7's and I simply wanted a change into fully forged single piece iron. I was looking for better feel, better turf interaction, and more consistent gapping between clubs. The Fitting I went and got fit at Club Champion since I work part time at an indoor golf simulator and we partner with them for fittings plus, this partnership also lets me get fit for free on top of a 10% discount. We ran through a shafts first and then worked our way through the club heads. It was down to the Titleist T100S, Srixon ZX7's, and the Cobra MIM's. The ZX7's won out because the misses that I was getting with them were not much different than the solid hits. Everything was just fading a little left to right and with a nice tight dispersion. The final build from the fitting was the Srixon ZX7's with the Tour issue Dynamic Gold 120 S400's standard length, 1.5° upright, and a few other custom options. Delivery Day Clubs were ready for pickup on Friday May 21st after about two months of painstakingly waiting. I rushed to get them during my lunch break and spent the rest of my workday admiring my new sticks. These clubs are absolutely beautiful from every angle but my personal favorite is the back of the club. I went with red, black, yellow, and white custom ferrules because if I am going custom I am going custom all the way. Initial Simulator and Course Impressions As stated in the beginning what I am looking for these irons to do is to deliver great feel and a consistent gapping yardage. I took these into the simulator over the course of two days and did odd clubs one day and even clubs another day. Club P790 ZX7 AW 122 115 PW 130 130 9i 145 145 8i 155 160 7i 167 170 6i 183 180 5i 189 190 4i 197 200 The yardages I was seeing were super consistent and exactly what I was expecting the spaces where there is a 5° loft difference between clubs I get a 15 yard gap which in the higher lofted clubs is fine a that 10 yard gap from 8 iron down is perfection. Out on the course I achieved exactly was I was hoping to when switching out of my P790's. I was seeing a lower flight but still retaining that steep landing angle. To keep it in perspective the landing angle went from 52° with the P790's to 48° with the ZX7's (taken on trackman). I was still having absolutely no trouble stopping the ball on the green and rollout distance was within a yard. I use Arccos for all shot tracking and stat keeping so once I hit about 10 rounds I will give a comparison between the Arccos data of the two irons. I might have missed a few points but if anyone has any questions fire them away.
  19. My ZX7 irons came in last week and have been in the bag for 2 rounds and there is nothing I can complain about with them. For anyone curious about the process of going back from lighter shaft to heavier it was easier than I thought. Even though the Zelos 7's are about 40g lighter than the Dynamic Gold 120's I did not see any discernable loss of club head speed from the 6 iron down. I may have lost 1-2mph with the 4 and 5 iron but my club head speed tends to fluctuate with those clubs depending on my swing so it's hard to tell. I mentioned previously I might put my P790's with the Zelos 7 in the 4 or 5 iron slot but the jury is still out on that as the ZX7's are performing well so far. I have the P790 Zelos 7 combo boxed up and in the attic for the time being however if anyone wants to see some head to head data I can very easily go and make that happen.
  20. I played in a 2 day tournament this past weekend and won it as low net. My iron play was fantastic and I could only thank the Zelos 7's for such a great win. I managed to hit 6 GIR on Saturday and 8 GIR on Sunday which lead me to a 83 and 85 respectively. I should be getting my new irons this week so those past two rounds made an incredibly strong case to keep the shafts no matter what.
  21. If you are interested in the 2 driver experiment I have a 9° G410 Max kicking around and would be more than happy to sell it to you don't want to go all in on a new driver.
  22. That 18th hole looks like an absolute beast. Nothing like a finishing up your round on a hole that can kick your teeth in. And to all the testers great work on finding ways to get some data for the shafts. It really helps paint a picture of what's going on during the testing process.
  23. Were you able to get the report sent to you for your session? That's one of the many benefits of trackman is the ability to email an entire report of all the data after your session. I think Trackman might have had some issues reading your clubhead speed so the good news is you might have been swinging faster than you originally thought during your session.
  24. What was the launch monitor being used to get these numbers because the smash factors you were getting are very high. (1.6 with the Ping and 1.57 with your TS3)?
  25. My bag has gone through some major changes this past year and is getting a full makeover from my wedges to my driver. The only thing that is staying as a constant in my bag is my putter and even that couldn't escape without getting a brand new grip thrown on it. A lot of the changes are currently on order but once they arrive I will be sure to keep this thread updated as well as possibly do a little review on the replacement on a separate thread. Right now my bag and its changes are below. Current Bag: Driver: Ping G410+ 9° W/ Hzrdus Smoke Yellow 6.0. Playing at 45" and loft set to 7.5° 3 Wood: Taylormade Sim W/ Fujikura Ventus Black 7S.
