  1. That is when the courses in your neck of the woods get REALLY busy!!
  2. Interesting coincidence, I was just watching the Golf Central Pregame show, and Brandel Chamblee was just breaking down Matthew Fitzpatrick's golf swing and comparing it to Sam Snead, Bobby Jones, Bruce Lietzke ... all with a swing that takes it inside going back and has a subtle over the top move in the transition... and tracing the swing path on screen. It was exactly what I am describing above... timely, and maybe a reminder that swings come in different shapes and sizes As referenced above, some of the best ball strikers to ever play the game didn't find "the slot" in their down swing. Gotta love this game!!
  3. Not the best video, but a few swing from a few weeks ago... sorry about mess in my carport, and the shaky camera work from my camera man . Many things to work on in the offseason, including that spare tire I started carrying this late season. 20221108_175204.mp4
  4. I would say my ott is not overt... it is subtle but it is there... I can see it in slow mo of my swing. I know that it keeps me from consistent and solid contact. It is an old habit that is more ingrained in my swing than any other aspect... the most difficult for me to "feel" correctly. That little ott pulls the shaft to more vertical orientation, left shoulder pulls out, then a bit of a cast to catch up to the left shoulder, and then holding off the out to in path by not letting my clear, which really creates a bit of a block... otherwise it would be a dead pull left - middle of the face contact has fade spin for all the reasons above... miss is a toe strike. I can see all that when looking at it from the outside. Doing ANYTHING different in the moment of a swing is the challenge haha. Baby steps
  5. Welcome to Day 1 of the Week Long (plus one day ) MGS FORUM MEMBER TURKEY SHOOT. Still time to build your teams - 2 Person Best Ball Format. Just submit each of your hole by hole scores (gross and net) so the best ball score can be calculated. Submit your team before the end of the "week" (November 25th) and before you and your partner play your rounds to be entered.
  6. Adding to the previous comments... Welcome to the Forum and Congratulations on breaking 80!! I have been playing the AVX balls recently (as a gift from my kids ) and it has been performing well for me too. I also really like the Maxfli Tour CG and they have slightly different profiles between them... so it is less easy to switch back and forth... I tend to play one or the other so I have a good feel on what the ball will do related to spin mostly. One thing I have noticed, and really like about the AVX - due to the lower spin... that is also evident on full shots... low spin reduces side spin as well... so my drives and full iron shots are a little straighter on shots hit with side spin. That could be a plus or minus depending on your game and how you control full shot spin, but something I wanted to mention. I tried the Z Star, the XV and the Diamond, and they are all really good balls... different profiles with each of course. Of the three, my fav is the Z Star for my swing, but the Maxfli performs almost identically to that at a better price point.
  7. 3 things I would like to improve in my swing during the off season: Backswing Path Over the Top move at downswing transition Clearing hips before impact position All these things are probably tied together (proper sequence would do wonders, I'm sure). Beyond mechanics, and swing speed training/challenge... spending more time on wedges and putter than long irons, hybrids and woods as a general rule.
  8. Amazing how cold a breezy 55 feels after being in the mid 80's just a week and a half ago!!
  9. Interesting experiment and result today while playing 9 holes. I used the O-PH build for the first 3 drives and the standard shaft for tge last 4 drives. What I found is it took me a few holes to adjust back to the standard shaft. My first two drives were hit high and on the toe. I firmly believe this has more to do with the shaft flex than a bad swing. By the 4th drive I was able to catch the face squarely and about 270 yards with roll out.. But it didn't feel nearly as easy as with the O-PH build. Will probably switch the shaft back to the "L" tomorrow.
  10. Date 11/17/2022 Course Name Willow Fork CC Gross Score 76 Course Handicap 3 Gross Strokes over/under par 4 Net Score to Par 1 Net Score 73 Net Birdies or better 3 Longest Drive 272 I was able to finish my 2nd nine tonight. With my Son/Caddie along for the ride. I will say this... he can read putts like nobody's business!! Shot +3/39 earlier in the week and a +1/37 today for a 76 combined.
  11. I use terms like "1/2 swing" and "3/4 swing" but it is really a feel thing as many have commented above. If I go to the range, or the practice hole, and hit 50 shots with what feels like a "3/4 swing" to me... I have a sample size of data showing me what my distance is with that swing and that club on average. So I can take that "feel" to the course, and when I find my ball in that average yardage window, and the lie and pin location is conducive to that type of shot, I can pull on that practiced feel of a "3/4 swing" that I have developed and have an expectation of the executed shot. There are a few different ways to think about this. am I more consistent with this swing because I spent more time practicing it than a higher lofted club with a full swing that goes a similar distance? or is it because the partial swing is more controllable and repeatable? Maybe a little of both... but the common theme is that it takes practice and repetition to get to a place where you can trust it on the course. At least that is my thought on it.
  12. I may have an open round JFish - I'll keep an eye on the posts to see if you get any other takers... and we can build a team for one of your AZ rounds. Where are you playing down south?
  13. Awesome G2M... We shall be Team Feast Mode My planned rounds for the week of the Turkey Shoot: Saturday November 19th - (TBD - possibly a rain out ) Sunday November 20th Tuesday November 22nd - (Reserved for Team Feast Mode w/ @Golf2Much ) Friday November 25th - (Reserved for Team Lone Star w/ @daviddvm)
  14. @Samsonite and @Golf2Much, I have you down. I am planning to play a few rounds during the "shoot week" too, so if either of you want to create an additional team, let me know.
  15. A few more days until the start of the Turkey Shoot week. If possible get your teams set before the start of the week Friday - but as long as you build your team before playing the rounds for your scores, I'll accept them. Remember, we are an honorable lot . I'm hoping the cold front moving through much of the US allows a break or two in the weather for everyone to get out and play!
  16. Pretty quiet in the Week 8 Thread Everyone is gearing up for the late week rounds I'm sure... I was able to get out for 9 holes last night... amazing what a few days away from hitting shots into and around greens does for your timing.. Was able to piece together a +3 / 39 - but it wasn't pretty. Hoping to find the time to sneak another 9 in before the weekend, and the start of Turkey Shoot Week!!!
  17. I am with you on the wedge putting Jonny! In fact, when I'm struggling on the greens, I go to the putting green with my wedge... Usually gets me back in sync on my stroke. I'm trying to think what I would select in a 3 club challenge... I would probably go with 5 iron (from the tee and long approaches), 8 iron (for shorter approaches and bump & runs around the green) and 58* (for finesse shots around the green and putting). Interesting thought... kinda want to go try it now!!
  18. When I was just learning to golf, and it got below freezing in Yakima... my buddy and I would take a road trip to Sham Na Pum... usually a few degrees warmer than Yakima in the Tri-Cities, and they let you golf, frozen ground or not. I recall some nice "Cart Path" bounces right from the middle of the frozen fairway... haha!
  19. I believe I have all the scores posted into the auto leaderboard now. Thanks Mr. M.

  22. Agreed cnosil, that was also the intent with the "stroke over/under par" field, which turned out to be the most confusing of all the numbers entered. Your suggestion is already planned for v.12 (maybe to start the new season).
