  1. The old school eBay find Mizuno MP-60 irons arrived, have had their bath, grew 1/4” already in their new home, and are looking spry. Here are sample pics. After the siblings are regripped, they are all going to go out and play this Sunday.
  2. Price dropped to $200 shipped. The shaft retails new for $130. Thank you for looking!
  3. Driver was +15 yards. All other clubs were +10-15 (with the exception of that wild 5-iron). So within the realm of possibility I suppose.
  4. Thank you! And I don't know. I use this sim once a week during winter for lessons. Lately, the past few weeks, I thought it was cheating me on distance. Yesterday, the opposite. Who knows - I did feel good, and implemented a change in my driver swing for more lower body power, so I hope it was correct! At one point it said I hit my 5 iron 230 yards (which was a total outlier for the day, and for all time), so something was up.
  5. Did an hour on the foresight sim as my lesson coach is on vaca and I used the time. I felt very loose and confident, but the sim readings seemed juiced somehow. Elevation and all settings normal - but hit all long irons and woods crazy long. Maybe all the practice is helping? Maybe the sim is off? Maybe both? Played 11 sim holes at +1. Hit 3 par 5 greens in two. Would take that in reality any day. But I doubt it’s real. What if it is?
  6. Curious for those of you who have had this work - what swing adjustments have you made, if any?
  7. If you can, try the same head with a shorter shaft. I had the exact same issues with the Rogue Max LS. Once I got the swing weight right at 44.5", it is accurate and longer due to consistent center hits.
  8. Only 37° high in Indy today, a little windy, but sunny. Hit a small bucket just to stay loose. Some wedges, some driver, a bit of Otto Phlex testing, and good contact all around. The weather is supposed to start improving this week. Fingers crossed!
  9. I have played the MTB-X a bunch. It’s a great ball. Low driver spin and good feel. I played some of my best golf with that ball. Highly recommend.
  10. For Sale: 2021 Callaway APEX DCB irons 5 through PW + AW. KBS Tour-V 110 Stiff Shafts. Midsize Tour Pride wrap grips. Standard lofts. +1° upright lies. $600 shipped ConUS. Thank you for looking!
  11. For Sale: PXG 0311 Gen5 7.5° Driver. Shaft is Tensei Orange 60 TX (Tour Extra Stiff). 45.5”. Golf Pride BCT grip. Very good condition only used for part of one season. Headcover included. $200 shipped ConUS. Thank you for looking!
  12. In case anyone is still following this process, (a) I was fitted in a Mizuno demo days fitting for the MP-225 with TT DG S-300 shafts, which were totally amazeballs; (b) I am waiting on the arrival of some “vintage” tester clubs - Mizuno MP-60 and Miura CB-57 (with Aerotech Steelfiber 110 shafts) from eBay, and (c) I have a CC fitting Thursday next which my golf buddy gifted me. Ideally, the fitting will tell me that the OG Mizunos or Miuras are ideal. I am super pumped to try them both. Really wondering about those graphite shafts in the Miuras - will be fascinating. After much testing, the Giga Golf 510 clubs (amazing price) are still in the mix, and they feel buttery sweet when hit well, but my spidey-sense tells me the Japanese clubs will win that battle. The CC fitting has the potential to lob a curveball into the mix, but I doubt it will - suspecting it will tell me the ideal shafts but not that a certain head is the unicorn I seek. I am aware that the lofts are quite different among the older clubs and the MP-225s, so I am not going to allow distance to be the sole determinant. I intend to stay open-minded through the fitting. So, with the gift CC fitting, and potential for striking gold with my eBay clubs, maybe I won’t have to spend $1200. But some new Mizunos - or others post CC fitting - will cost me at least that. Time will tell. The goal is improved scoring, so I will be totally objective. But Is it wrong I am rooting for the OG Miuras? They are so PRETTY!
  13. I guess I should chime in! 1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? Since I was 7 or so. The local muni was my caretaker for a few summers in the 80's. I should be better than I am given how much golf we played back then. My handicap sits at 11.8 right now. 2. What do you love about golf? I enjoy being with friends, the challenge of competing against others and myself, those great shots we never forget, the jokes, the cigars, and getting to be out in nature in a gorgeous setting for several hours. It's also a great way to satisfy my tinkering/researching urges, even during the offseason. 3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I found it through Youtube. I may know other Spies, but they are as yet not revealed to me. 3. Where are you from? What is your home course? North side of Indianapolis. I do not belong to a club, so we play all over. Probably most frequently at River Glen in Fishers and places near and north of there, along with the Fort and Eagle Creek. 4. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best -- we have some incredibly lovely days in the spring and fall. Worst -- Winter! Trying to scratch the itch hitting balls off mats or sneaking out in thermal underwear when temps rise enough and courses dry out enough. 5. What do you do for a living? Corporate attorney - no courtroom work. 6. How’d you pick your user name? My old nickname (from my other primary hobby - drumming -- derivative of John Bonham's nickname), plus my hometown. Glad to be here!
  14. I have changed cartridge weights in my Rogue. My replacements came from Amazon. I ended up needing a little more and eventually replaced the cartridge with tungsten putty, also from Amazon. Good luck!
  15. I am a bit embarrassed to be posting here again so soon, but I scored a set of Mizuno MP-60 irons 5-9 off eBay for crazy cheap. Excited to clean them up and try them.
  16. Hit for an hour on Foresight at PGASS. First, did an AvB comparison with my driver at two different shaft lengths, and I found the sweet spot for dispersion and distance balancing. My tinkering with swing weight and shaft length may be over. Excited about that. (Next up: figuring out if I can do the same with Otto Flex. But even if not, I am very pleased with this progress. It's been work!) I also nailed down my gaps from SW-7i. Some interesting big gaps in there. If I do choose new irons, this will be good comparison data. If not, some loft changes are in order for a couple clubs. Finally, I did a side-by-side comparison of my usual ProV1 against the OnCore Vero X1 (which I learned of in this forum). Interestingly, at my swing speeds, the OnCore gave me more distance and a little less spin/better accuracy with driver, and essentially the same or slightly better performance with the irons. Color me impressed! It will be interesting to see how they feel on the course, on and around the greens especially. Intriguing stuff. It was a productive hour. Finally, let me say again, I am learning so much in these forums. Super helpful and interesting. I feel fortunate to have found MGS!
  17. Too much junk for me! I usually push a cart or ride, so weight matters a little less. (I have a lighter bag I use if I know I am carrying.) I usually carry a couple Gatorades and snack bars in addition to an excess of balls, extra gloves, layers (for the unpredictable Hoosier spring and fall weather), adjustment tools, cigars, rangefinder, etc. Yeah - definitely too much!
  18. I have had the same struggles, believe me. I don't know if I am turning the corner, but a few things that have helped me recently hit more fairways (all of which I learned on this site): 1. Get to know the swing weight that works for you. My driver was too light and I would lose the feel of the club head. Increasing weight to D4-D5 has helped my accuracy significantly. 2. As another poster said, a shorter shaft can help with accuracy. Be very mindful of swing weight again. A shorter shaft will decrease the swing weight, so you have to balance that with length. 3. I have a tendency to try to hit the ball rather than swing through it. This manifests in me not turning my hips all the way and creating an open face "block" that results in a push-fade. The best tip I read here which has helped a lot is to focus my eyes on a spot behind the ball in my swing plane, and not at the ball. It sounds counterintuitive to not look at the ball. But my swing was stopping too much at the ball, so by focusing behind the ball and not having a target to hit I tend to complete the swing better. It also helps with hitting up on the ball with the driver. Good luck! And share any secrets you find, please. Lord knows I need the driver help!
  19. I just ordered a Cleveland RTX 6 ZipCore Tour wedge at 48* to replace my soon to be gone gap wedge. I have the ZipCores in 54 and 58 and love them. New irons are in my future and the RTX are a known commodity (and likely less expensive than an iron set gap wedge). I am excited to test it out. I also picked up a Big MAX Dri Lite Hybrid Tour Water-Repellent Stand Bag from Amazon to replace my quickly deteriorating bag, and a headcover that looks a lot like our puppy (at my supportive wife's suggestion). The old bag did not have full-length club compartments and was murder on grips and immensely frustrating with tangled clubs. Hopefully this will be more protective and easier to use. Getting ready for the season!
  20. Those are gorgeous! Are they in any retailers yet, or is an online demo purchase the only way to test them out? Thanks!
  21. I'm curious Ding Dong what swing weight you are using? I am experimenting with the OP as well, and cannot control it yet nearly as well as I can with my gamer (stiff) driver at a D4 swing weight. It may just not work for me, but I am curious if further tinkering with the SW will get it there. Thank you in advance for your input, and thank you for the AF comparison!
  22. Still in dilemma mode, unfortunately. Did the Mizuno Demo Day fitting today, and landed on the Pro 225 irons with True Temper Dynamic Gold 120shafts. They feel great (soft), and they go straight and long, and they are workable. Misses were not too far offline, and feedback was good. Boy, they are spendy, too. But maybe worth it. I have also been hitting Giga Golf 7 irons in the m510 and m410 models, both with the same TT DG 120. I just love hitting the m510 muscleback. It's 4 degrees of loft weaker at 34, and being a "real" blade too, it's significantly shorter than my Apex DCB and the Mizunos, by about 10 -15 yards. Surprisingly, I find it nearly as forgiving as the Mizunos, and it's definitely soft and workable. It would also be about 1/3 the cost. I could buy a set, try them for 30 days, and return them if I decided to. Part of me thinks that is sortof a jerk move, even though those are their explicit terms. So, I am still choosing. I am also debating, in either case, about changing lofts by a couple degrees no matter which way I go - split the difference between "modern" stonger lofts and the traditional weaker lofts. My buddy is still telling me to go get the CC fitting to confirm against other models that the Mizunos are the best for me. Given the good results I got with both the Gigas and the Mizunos, I have a hard time believing that I am going to get significantly better results from another make/model. Do I think that is worth $175 for an iron fitting? Doubtful. Somebody tell me what to do, and guarantee it will all be perfect and I won't be back here whinging about the same stuff in two years! LOL.
  23. Thank you for your thoughtful questions and input, I will do my best to answer thoughtfully as well. You described my playing fairly accurately - it tends to stick in the low 80's right now, primarily due to poor driver play and some iron issues. The driver is entirely up to me and my swing and practice. The irons are too, but a lot less so. Let me explain. I was fit for irons in 2021 at the beginning of my improvement efforts. I have taken lessons since that fitting, have brought my handicap down considerably, and rightly or wrongly consider myself a pretty decent ball striker (driver excepted) most of the time. (My coach agrees with that, so my delusion is at worst partial.) I have no problem getting good distance and trajectory from my 21 Apex DCBs. But the feedback is terrible, and workability is sorely lacking. That, and I get the dreaded fliers when I hit a "hot spot" on the face, which means my distance control can vary up to 20 yards from "average" with a particularly hot ball strike. So, while you are correct that "need" may be a bit strong, if I want to continue to improve, I definitely "want" new irons and feel that they will help me along that goal. Or, at least, I want to test that theory by trying out some more player-level clubs to see if my hypothesis is correct. To that end, I am testing some Giga 7 irons, and I also have a demo day fitting this weekend with Mizuno, where I can compare against my current gamer iron. All that said, I may learn that I am not the striker I think I am and should stick with the DCBs for a while, or forever. On the other end of the spectrum, a Giga or Mizuno tester may cause an angelic chorus of bliss to descend upon me. Goldilocks says I am most likely to determine from these experiments that *some* sort of change will improve and better fit my game now, and help me improve more long-term, which means . . . I pony up for the full fitting in order to avoid exactly the type of buyer's regret you correctly suggest might befall me. (My best golf buddy is in my ear about this daily, pleading with me to get fit and not make a mistake by going my own way. He knows how stubborn I am.) I wish I did not feel the need/want for new irons. That feeling is unique to my irons, despite my driver issues, which I am addressing through practice, coaching, and less drastic tinkering to get the right shaft length and swing weight for me. In sum? Stay tuned, I guess. I will not be changing clubs for change's sake, and will be the first to admit the DCBs are the best thing for me right now if it turns out they are. Thanks again. Truly.
  24. I recently bought two shafts to try in driver: Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue 45-A at 44.5" pured from Dallas Golf (for an OttoPhlex test) and a duplicate used Fujikura Motore X F1 6-S to cut down and see what happens to dispersion. Also took advantage of the first time customer discount and ordered a dozen OnCore Vero X1 balls to try after reading about them here!
  25. Many great ideas here. Thank you! I am taking a stepped approach here. First, I ordered a couple 7 irons from Giga Golf to try. With their return policies, there is little risk. And they may be perfect! I am also going to try some demo days. If all that fails, I will go forward with a CC or similar fitting. I appreciate all the helpful input!
