  1. As someone who is considering a new driver this spring and had the same questions about free vs. paid fittings at PGA Superstore, I have greatly appreciated everyone's contributions to this conversation.
  2. First Sim round of the year this afternoon. Swing felt gross, but I hit a few pure ones here and there. Glad to have started the process. A few months to get ready for the real thing.
  3. During a lunchtime perusal of my local PGA Tour Superstore I found a unicorn, a deeply discounted pre-owned lefty wedge in the loft I've been considering a replacement with essentially no wear on the grooves. Seriously, look at these grooves: That is a nearly unused CBX Zipcore 52 degree for under $70. The real test will be in the Spring to see how it works around the green, but visually the grind is more what I've been looking for compared to my current Glide 4.0
  4. Been working on putting since winter set in. Pulled the alignment mirror out and discovered the reason I'd been pulling so many putts was that my putter was noticeably closed at address. Oops. Considering putting a blade back in the bag that naturally sets up more square and has a better feel off the sweet spot, but is less forgiving than my mallet. Have a few months to figure it out!
  5. I've recently re-gripped the two putters I've used the last 2 years. First, I swapped out the thinner pistol grip that came standard on my Odyssey DFX #7 for the red midsized Winn grip below. Besides being a bit thicker, the thing I like most is that it's of uniform width all the way down. I've only gotten to play once since I made the switch thanks to winter setting in, but I made an uphill 35 footer on the first hole, so there might be something there. Additionally, I decided to go through a similar process with my old Odyssey White Hot OG 1. In addition to swapping out the old pistol grip for the thicker Lamkin seen below, I cut it down from 35 inches to 33.5. I haven't gotten to take it outdoors yet, but that setup feels great in the living room lab!
  6. Played a couple times since I last posted. Game isn't in perfect shape yet, but limiting disaster holes to about 1 per round. Was part of a winning scramble in a small, hackers only type outing last time out. Was nice to see a bunch of circles on the scorecard, even if it was a team event. Hoping to get out this week, maybe after squeezing in another lesson.
  7. I've played a couple of 9 hole rounds after getting my first lesson since I was 8 (30 years ago). We focused on irons during my lesson, and the adjustments we made were primarily to my setup. It feels sooooo foreign but man can I see the results. Primarily he's got me focusing on shifting more weight to my back foot at address to help keep my head behind the ball. Iron striking hasn't been perfect of course but it's definitely improved already. The collateral damage is that I seem to be popping up my drives more often, but that's actually a less damaging miss than before the lesson. The rounds were 43-44 respectively, which would easily be my low 18 hole total of the last year or so. The lesson was the first of a 6 pack purchased from the PGA Tour Superstore. I highly recommend doing so if you're on the fence.
  8. I've hit up the demo bin for some very gently used clubs each of the last two years. I have one round in with my new 52 degree Ping Glide 4.0 and Callaway Apex 4h. The Apex was probably the star of my round until I pushed one into the water off the tee on a hole I probably should've been hitting driver anyway.
  9. Awesome, glad to be here standing on the wrong side of the ball!
  10. Can I get a Lefty badge? I'm new here and us lefties have to stick together!
  11. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? Probably since I was 7, around 31 years ago. The apps tell me I'm currently a 16.6. What do you love about golf? Nature, problem solving, and the quest for the perfect shot. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Great information that doesn't try to make decisions for you. Where are you from? What is your home course? Live in north burbs of Chicago. Hop around about 3-5 munis up here. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best things are having plenty of courses nearby and all the bent grass fairways. Worst thing is the long winters. What do you do for a living? Consulting How’d you pick your user name? I've used it elsewhere and it was available
