  1. Yeah I definitely wont be able to stand up to any of them when it comes to UI and features, at least for a while. My focus has been on being as low impact on play in the game as possible and maximizing battery life. The hit to battery life has always been my biggest gripe about golf GPS apps. They all watch your GPS the entire round, but if you add club tagging there is really no need for it. From what I can tell, Shot Scope also uses GPS constantly so battery drain is likely similar to other golf apps.
  2. I will never financially recover from this... That's interesting though! I choose to believe they heard I was working on my app and decided to beat me to the punch. I wonder if they have the same issue with requiring the phone be unlocked that I do. I'll probably still upload my app once I get it working well. NFC tags are only around $.10 each so buying those and paying $.99 for my app is still a significantly cheaper option. I'm under no illusion that I'll be able to take on Shot Scope but I feel like I've come too far to abandon this now!
  3. I mentioned a while back in this thread that I was going to try to make an iOS app that uses generic NFC tags to track club distances as a low cost ($.99 one time purchase, add free) alternative to Arccos. I've got a mostly working prototype and am starting some alpha testing on my own device. I've learned through this process that Apple doesn't allow scanning NFC tags without having the phone unlocked, so using my app would require the user to either open their phone and scan a club each time they swing, or leave the phone unlocked in their pocket so they can scan the tags. The app itself would not need to be open, only the phone has to be unlocked. Also, the GPS only activates when the club is scanned to conserve battery life. What do you Spies think of this? Is this level of interaction a deal breaker for you on the course, or would you be interested in something like this even if it takes one or two seconds per shot to use?
  4. @Q22Golf I see you have a Lazruz 3 Wood and Hybrid as well. What do you think of those? I would think woods and hybrids have more tech in them than wedges. I'm curious if Lazrus is able to compete with the big boys there.
  5. After seeing Full Swing and all his on course meltdowns I've come to really like Justin Thomas. He seems so relatable when he makes bad shots I just love to watch it. Cant say I've ever seen him playing well so who knows if I'd like that too ! Other than him, I really like Viktor Hovland after seeing him at The Masters. That first round really grabbed my attention. The shirt definitely didn't hurt either!
  6. You can buy direct from Costco online without a membership. Prices can be slightly higher and you have to pay a 5% non-member fee, but with that included the K-sigs are still the cheapest Urethane ball money can buy. I play the V3's and have no problem with excessive spin, and a slice on the tee is usually my miss. Wedges and irons spin as good or better than any other ball I've played.
  7. I second the Lazrus wedges. They've become my favorite clubs by far since getting them. Previously I had some used Vokey wedges, and from that experience I would say new "cheap" wedges is better than used premium wedges.
  8. Congrats to the testers! Can't wait to see how these wedges stack up!
  9. I agree, plug-in hybrids seem like a great stop-gap until battery infrastructure matures a bit. Unfortunately, they seem to be ignored by manufacturers for the most part. Hybrids in general seem to be stalling in terms of efficiency, especially when you're talking about trucks and suv's. Why does every manufacturer only have hybrids that get essentially the same fuel economy as the standard gas version?
  10. Most of them don’t even have their own tags. And they don’t seem to be in any hurry to put them out either. I’m and extremely beginner coder but I’m going to play around with making a very basic app to do this.
  11. Looks like the Atlanta fitter is Elite Fit Golf or MobileClubMaker on youtube. I thought really hard about making the drive to see him for my driver fitting but decided to give the local shop a try. Looks like I should have just went with him in the first place.
  12. It really seems like these golf apps need to expose themselves to the NFC readers in our phones and allow us to use generic nfc tags on our clubs.
  13. Do you match your woods and/or hybrids to your driver or try out multiple and go for what works? I have a Ping G410 driver, no 3 wood, and a TM R15 Rescue. I would like to add a 3 Wood between those and was wondering if I would be pretty safe to get a Ping G410 with the same shaft as my driver or if I should put more work into it than that. I would rather not get a fitting as my local fitter left a lot to be desired last time I went there.
  14. I absolutely love my allbirds! Definitely the most comfortable sneaker I've every owned. Not sure how good they are for running but for casual wear they're hard to beat.
