  1. 1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I’ve always had a set of clubs, I’d say I started trying to play well about 3-4 years ago. My handicap now is a 12 and I’ve shoot high 80’s, a good day would be anything sub 85. 2. What do you love about golf? No two rounds are the same, you can finish an awful 18 and start over at the same course on the same day and you could shoot your best score, it’s just a wild game like that. 3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I don’t know any other spies, saw a ball review a couple years ago and have always followed and paid attention to what MGS puts out, just recently decided to join in the forum. 4. Where are you from? What is your home course? Northeast Texas, home course would be Buffalo Creek. 5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Hardpan fairways on muni’s, it’s a love hate thing. On one hand it’s just the nature of the beast out here and you take your excessive rollouts, on the other hand once you play a more lush fairway it’s like peeking behind the curtain to a world you don’t belong in. 6. What do you do for a living? Firefighter Paramedic for DFD. 7. How’d you pick your user name? Name and birth year combo, it’s a default setting for me. WITB: driver: Callaway epic flash 9.5 toe weighted with an Accra i60 S shaft cut down an inch or so. Taylormade M2 3 wood with cut down hzrds T800 6.0 Callaway Apex UW 19° with hzrds black 6.0 Cleveland Halo (14’) 22° stock S shaft irons 5-A Sub 70 699Pro DG S300 shafts cleveland 54 (12) and 60 (8) rtx zipcore 5 odyssey 2 ball but the putter is a rotation game for me, the 2 ball is working for now.
  2. Ran my first pick em pool this year for the Masters. I think it went well and most of the feedback was good. We did it through run your pool (dot com) and they have a good set up, pick six players out of six different tiers, the tiers are based on odds to win. I set it up so your strongest three scores stayed and you dropped your worst three. We had 20 people and played it winner take all, I asked the guys what they thought about it going forward and we are going to do multiple payouts based on participation levels for the PGA (12+ people pays 1st and 2nd, 20 plus pays 3 etc). I think it was fun and went well considering I exclusively invited friends and family, hope it’s something I can grow out of my network and have some good sized pots. I really wanted to make a live spreadsheet and manage it that way but the work that would’ve taken isn’t within my scope.
  3. Easy to day going in to Saturday but Adam Scott just hasn’t had it tee to green all year. I know you can’t 100% bet on the hot sticks coming in (see Hidekis +6 thru 36) but Zalatoris is a better choice here.
  4. Hello All, For years and years I used whatever I had around, an old Odyssey 2 ball for the most part with some blade style flat sticks mixed in. I stay up to date on the latest and greatest equipment, and have been fiending for an Evnroll, but the price always shook me. After some research I actually found an older Rife ‘General’ and have used it for about 6 months now. It is forgiving and has the same roll groove tech as you see in Evnrolls, I have really enjoyed it thus far. Play well!
  5. Current status: 13.4 hcp, down from a 16ish in early 2023, clubs—> really like my gear now, not a lot of plans on changing much, maybe a driver upgrade but irons and woods are in a good place, putter too! 2023 I was tinkering constantly with almost every club in the bag. I played more than ever last year and hit a few good (for me) scores, but in my opinion last year I got to breaking 90 pretty regularly without enough ‘wow’ factor, this year I think the ultimate goal is to get down to a 10 and be sub 86 on the card more often than not. With it being the end of March at the time of this post I can say that has not happened, I had a good stretch of 87, 79, 85 consecutively but have regressed since. It’s “spring” in north Texas which is not my favorite time to play, the winter hard pan is gone and spring green side grass is usually soggy and tough to judge your play out of, municipal greens are in transition. Summer is good to us, if you can stand the heat the surface is consistent everywhere you go, should lower the scores then. Have a great year everyone!
  6. I would go forward with the driverbasing your judgement off of sound and feel, if one of them is off on a ‘good swing’ consistently that’ll tell you what you need to know.
  7. New driver headcover coming, the rose and fire Warhawk in grey. Took a couple weeks for production but it will arrive faster than the site said so no complaints there. Excited to see how it comes out, this will mostly round out my head overs until I lose interest in something then ‘need’ to get a new one.
  8. I think that’s what I’ll do, take the 7 or 8 and go hit on sim and at range with a single DG120 , I prefer to do the work etc, but the logic makes sense right, if I’m feeling like all the weight is in the club head a heavier shaft will theoretically change that feeling
  9. I got a set of sub 70 699 pro irons last year, so far I really like them and have put some good rounds together with them being the stars of the show, I do feel like they are “head heavy”. I dabble in gear stuff and know that I probably need a heavier shaft if I don’t want to feel the head so much. Current shafts are DG S300 105’s, thinking of going to a fitter to see about the 120’s, any good experiences out there regarding a shaft focused fitting?
