  1. Had a 45 min putting lesson with the Pro at my home course today. Felt that I have left a lot of putts on the course over the past month or so (say out of 3 putts, I would hole one, miss on short, miss one long and had some alignment and green reading issues) Technique was otherwise ok, but the Pro noticed that I was taking it back too short and then used a hit/strength/speed of stroke to get the ball to the hole. So worked on a longer backswing but stop the putter from going past my left foot on the follow through and also focused on the tempo of the stroke as well. As for pace, we worked on making sure that the ball died at the hole rather than dead weight or having it go a foot by. After the lesson I spent another hour on the green working on this and putting/aiming to a tee on the ground to help me focus on my aim and line.
  2. Forgive me for I have sinned. Picked up this bad boy today from Club Champion in Glasgow (only took about about a week for it to come in as well!) Now to try and play golf as work has taken over of late.
  3. Looks really good and as someone who doesn't use the 3 wood much let alone hit it off the turf, I am wondering if its something to think about for me.
  4. I love nothing better than looking at a set of blades (former Mizuno TP19, MP33, Nike Blade, Bridgestone J33 owner) and like a certain shoe company says Just Do It. At the end of the day its about enjoyment and having fun on the golf course, if you have something that you like the look of and feel of then that is half the battle. Alex
  5. Following this. I too will likely to have a similar gap in my bag and will be looking for ideas. Currently using a 4 Hybrid pretty well so will be looking to plug the gap between that and the 3 wood (currently replenishing funds after ordering a new driver) I hit my 5 iron about 200-210 and my 4 Hybrid about 220-230 so it would be good to get more information and ideas. Alex
  6. Neither for nor against at the moment. Would need to see if IRL and have it in my hand, but initial thoughts are the Matt sole is not brilliant but then who looks at the sole when hitting a ball and I am not sure of the GT logo instead of the old Triangle (then again I don't really notice it on the TSR2 that I am currently using) From address it looks like any classic Titleist driver which at the end of the day is what you are looking for and wanting. Alex
  7. Question for the hive mind that is here. Under certain light conditions (usually bright sunny skys or late evening) I find it really hard to see where my ball flies (I lost 2 balls off the tee the other day as I saw where they went but couldn't see them land) and I was wondering if using a Yellow Ball (Srixon Z Star Diamond or Pro V1x) will help with this? I already wear glasses and was thinking of maybe playing using my contacts and maybe a lighter shade lenses in my Oakleys. Any suggestions? Alex
  8. You did the same as me then. I recently replaced a set of 2008 MP-60s as well but I got a set of Srixon ZX5 MKIIs, I know that the lofts are night and day compared to each other but I am finding that my good shots are better and bad ones are not as bad, also the sole of the Srixons help so much with my swing being on the slightly steep side at times (working on this) I would have loved to do a back to back with the MP-60s (being an old set I am sure the lofts and lies were all over the place) being set to my current lie specs and original lofts. Hope the new clubs are working out for you. Alex
  9. I first started 'playing' in 1987 when a friend introduced me to the game. At that time it was about finding any club that was affordable for a 10 year old and hitting whiffle balls off a door mat in the back yard. It then moved onto playing the local Council run 9 hole golf course and that was when I got my dad into the game. From those formative years we have moved onto playing at a semi private course and have been ever since. Dad is now 74 and I am 47 and we still head out together at times. He is having some health issues with his balance and movement and can't hit the ball like he used to but still enjoys getting out and for me it allows us some time together and also I can get him out of the house (Dad is retired and my parents are no longer together and he lives alone) Had a hiatus of about 15 years (life, work, parents got in the way but also fell out of love of the game) but coming back into the game and am actually playing better than I did previously which is nice.
  10. I demoed the Blueprint S a few months back and have to say they and the Ts are the best looking Ping irons that I have seen in a long time. The fitter put me into a Blueprint S with DG X100 120g shafts. My swing was on a good day that day and I was hitting them so well but I had also tried Titleist T150, Srixon ZX7 MKIIs and Mizuno 243s as well. Lovely feel and for me that day dispersion was really good and I got better results than the i230 that day. Ended up with Srixon ZX5 MKIIs in the end as they worked better overall for me along with the i230s but on a good day the Blueprint S would have been a good choice for me. Loved the look (pretty classical from address and bag wise) and feel. Alex
  11. Oh oh I will play: Woods - Wilson Whale (remember those?) with a Firestick shaft, Titleist 975D 9.5* with Grafalloy Prolite, Titleist 975J 9.5* with Grafalloy Prolite, Taylor Made 360 9.5* (Tour Issue (stamped 320 on the sole from what I can remember)) with Fuji Speeder 757 The 975s will forever remain close to my heart. Loved those drivers and the TM was an awesome driver and again my journey into the whole Tour Issue side of things which was wallet busting and eye opening. Irons - Mizuno TP19 (3-PW), Ping Eye 2+ (2-SW), Tourstage MR-23 US Spec (3-PW) TP19s because I wanted to be like Faldo circa 1992, Ping Eye 2+ as they are classics, Tourstage was my first dip into the JDM rabbit hole (Endo Forged...soooo good!) Putter - Ping Anser BeCu (special because I bought it at the Open in 1989 at Royal Troon (well my dad did)) and had it for years until that and my TP19s were stolen). LAB Link1 as its my current putter and has displaced all my Scottys. Also special mention to my Slighter Tacoma (34", 400g head, floating slot, initials stamped) that was custom made for me by Tom Slighter years ago.
  12. Hi Brain Trust! I got fitted to a Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max in 10.5* with the Oban Isawa Red 65S shaft in it. Great combo and much better than my Cobra LTDx LS with Tensi Black and getting a much better flight, more hang time and distance with the combo, just wondering (I know in my heart of hearts I will end up in that combo) but is there a comparable shaft to the Oban that doesn't cost the earth even though it doesn't look as cool. TIA, Alex
  13. I was thinking about this as well recently seeing that I am a tart and like to keep my new clubs nice. I managed to score a brand new Srixon ZX7 MKII 5 iron with the same shaft as my main set (Nippon Modus Tour 120s) and grip (Tour Velvet White) so going to use that for the driving range, warming and for working on my swing at home. Going to get my Pro shop to adjust the lie to match my ZX5 MKII 5 iron as well. I think as long as your Lie Angle, Lofts and shafts match your main set then I don't see an issue. Alex
  14. Hello Everybody!! Knew about MGS for years as I used to frequent a lot of golf forums back in the day. Had a hiatus of about 15 years where life, family, work and other interests got in the way but now getting back into the game and gone full bore as usual back into the game. Trying not to fall back into being a club ho again after replacing my Mizuno MP60s and Bridgestone J33 Wedges from 2008 (new irons, wedges and putter already over the past 3 months ) Alex
  15. I have been thinking about replacing my driver and 3 wood. I know that I don't hit them as well as I should and after my recent bag fitting at Club Champion in Glasgow I know for sure its not optimal, its just trying to justify it and work out what is best to get. Will I get more if I just replace the 3 wood first or just the driver first? The price and availability is good and I know what I need and have been fitted for (Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max 10.5* with Oban Isawa Red 65g and Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max 15* 3 wood with Oban Isawa Red 75g both in Stiff) Also as I will have 13 clubs, there is a gap in the bag, the other question is do I go 5 wood or 3 Hybrid....hmmm choices choices. Alex
  16. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? Been playing for over 30 years () but just coming back into the game more seriously after a hiatus for the past 15 years where it was 1/2 rounds a year and range sessions when I felt like it. The variety of courses, can get anything from Parkland to Links. What do you do for a living? Technical Business Analyst for an IT Consultancy. How’d you pick your user name?
