  1. I drove all over Ohio trying to find LAB putters to test out. Did the online fitting. But really wanted to try one to get the feel. Checked out a couple of Golf Galaxies, they had a limited supply, but had some to try. I spent about 30 minutes trying out different models: Mezz Max, DF 2.1, Broom Stick, and the DF3. I was intrigued, but needed more info. Went to another GG, different selection, including counter balanced DF3. I think I putted there long enough to know the store clerks birthday. They offered me lunch. LOL . After nearly 2 hours, yea...2 hours. I had come close to pulling the trigger, even comparing LAB to EvenRolls, Spyder X and Scotties. But I didn't get to try a DF3 with Accra shaft. Fast forward two weeks later. Went to a PGA Superstore and they had about every model of LAB putter you could imagine. Narrowed it down to a Mez Max with Red head and Accra shaft and the counter balanced DF3(they didn't have the regular DF3 w/Accra). I liked them both but the learning curve and feel of the CB was too much and I purchased the Mez Max. BTW, PGA SS has a 90 day playability trade in, which was a deal maker for me. Played with the MM for about 3 weeks, got the feel of it and liked it. Putted pretty well, but in the back of my head a voice kept saying, "the DF3 could be better". So last week I made the hour and a half drive back to PGA SS in hopes they would have the Accra shafted DF3, and they did. About 30 minutes trying it out and comparing it to the CB DF3 ( I like the length at 38 inches), I made the trade, even up for the MM I had bought, no questions, no problems. Alittle practice at home to get the feel and off to the course the next day. First putt, 12 foot birdie. Finished the day with 30 putts and 6 one putts as well as growing confidence in my new weapon. Two days later, playing on bigger and much faster greens, I took a step back, 34 putts and 4 three putts( all from 50 plus feet) but still had 7 one putts. And yesterday another 30 putt day with 7 more one putts. This putter is a keeper, even buying it off the rack. I just couldn't wait multiple weeks to order one. My confidence level is as high as it ever has been putting and it will just get better I'm sure.

  3. I'm curious about the process of choosing between the DF3 and the Mezz Max. I've putted both, each felt good from both close range and long. I've done the video fitting. (71°) and each of the ones I tried was 68° or 69°. That seemed to be an important factor that I had not previously considered. Tell me, what was the deciding factors for you? I'm ready to pull the trigger, but before spending that kind of cash I want to be pretty certain on the model I select. Thanks.

  5. Kensington has some huge greens. Islay in his shadow too. Others in the area. Mill Creek, and Firstone Farms. Hope your and the golf went well.
  6. Recently bought Paradym 24° adjustable hybrid. Easy to hit, comes in high and soft, and did I mention it's adjustable? Covers from 23° to 26°and is a great transition from my longest iron to a gouge it out hybrid. Also, perfect for that longish in between par 3 that you need it to bite.
  7. Depending on what area in Cleveland you're in, there are some very nice public courses on the East side. Quail Hollow has two nice courses and not far from there is Little Mountain and Fowlers Mill. You'll find them all a cut above the Metro courses.
  8. I live in southeastern Ohio. We are not blessed with a lot of good golf courses close. But we are willing to drive and have found that using the Tee Time Golf Pass, we can find some great deals and experience some pretty nice courses. So far this summer we've played courses ranging in price from $18 to $38. Does anyone else use the TTGP? We use the Midwest Edition which covers multiple states. What are you doing to find golf discounts and deals ?
  9. How long have you been playing golf? I've been playing since I was 10, currently 68. Played some in high school and college. I was a very average golfer then. What’s your handicap or normal score? I'll normally shoot either side of 80 by a few strokes when I play with my senior buds from the gold tees. Move me back to the whites and it'll be 85-90. What do you love about golf? The feel of a well struck shot that goes where you were aiming, whether it's a drive, approach or putt and especially if you put them all together on the same hole. The comraderie of hanging out with others who enjoy the game a beer afterwards. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? I was reading reviews of the LAB putters and found this forum. Do you already know any other Spies? Not yet, at least I don't think so. Where are you from? From southeastern Ohio. What is your home course? No home course. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? There are limited golf courses or shops close by. What do you do for a living? Sports broadcaster. Retired teacher/ coach. How’d you pick your user name? BK is my nickname/ initials. 89 was my number in college football and occasionally a gol score.
  10. I'm 68, and shot 68 on a local par 70 course. I got off to a fast start, birdied the first hole and was -3 after 5. Finished the front at 33. Back 9 was more of the same. Picked up a couple of birdies in the first 5 holes, but missed twice from inside 10 feet. I can honestly say, I wasn't thinking about the score until the 18th tee. I was tuned in to the process, swing by swing. But on the 18th, I knew a bogie or better would get me a 68. I promptly blocked my tee shot, short right, was able get it close to the green but couldn't get up and down for the par. My goal met, the first and maybe the second round back at the club, were on me. As with most good rounds, I putted very well, 26 for the day. That was a year ago. Haven't been close to duplicating it, but, I've got a birthday coming up, maybe 69 is a lucky number.
