  1. My wife in the past has managed Pizza Inns and Pizza Huts. She told me chain restaurants have their strict sanitation policies. She says that their theory is if one restaurant gets a bad reputation on sanitation etc that the whole chain may get that reputation. I know for a fact that these days their main issue is service. A few years back the Applebees right down the street closed. Not from sanitation but sorry service. I went on line one night to complain and there were over 600 complaints in a 6 month span from tourists and locals alike on sorry service. Right after that they closed it and I will note this was pre pandemic. A local steakhouse with 3 locations moved into that building and did so well they outgrew it in like a year and they re did a larger facility in the heart of Restaurant Row in Murrells Inlet. Same with Chilis located up by the old Wicked Stick golf course and this was pre pandemic too. We tend to eat at local owned places where we know the owners well. Our exception is the Waffle House in Surfside Beach where they have a real stable crew and treat us well. Now the Waffle House in Murrells Inlet frankly sucks. poor service and lousy food. I will go across the street to the 7-11 and eat a hot dog or a slice of cardboard pizza before I eat in there. I know my Manager in Surfside told me the other day that district went in there the other day and cleaned house. He winked at me and said that it does not mean we need to go down there and check it out. I told him naah I like his Waffle House and his people
  2. The one between here and Myrtle shut down about 5 years ago now. I think the one in Dirty Myrtle off of Sea Board street is still going but we do not go up there
  3. Like I said earlier I did a lot of things and moved around a lot. Basically I never limited myself I saw something I wanted to do I did it. I would get tired and bored with it and move on to something else. A fellow told me when I was a young man not to limit myself to one thing for 30 or 40 years like he had. If it is something I was interested in doing I watched learned and asked questions.
  4. 79 was the first year I ran my own cars then I got out of it in 83 did not get back into it until like 92 and got out for good in 2000
  5. You think you are old I remember hanging Cordoba sheet metal on a NASCAR chassis. Back in 78 I was a Nomad. My tool boxes stayed on my truck. I bounced around several Winston Cup teams as extra help. I would work some get some money and play golf either a Mini Series or gamble. This one guy named Ed Negre ( RIP) had a deal with Chrysler and they wanted him to convert one of his cars to Cordoba sheet metal. Now this was in the middle of racing season and him being an independent type racer did not have a big staff. He hired me and another guy to convert a 73 Charger cage and chassis to 78 Cordoba sheet metal. Chrysler paid the bill and we did it in a week. Worked a 75 hr week but we got it done and were paid very well. That car raced the next week at Atlanta. And no it did not have the "fine Corinthian Leather Interior" either
  6. Anyone I have seen that has had knee replacement surgery once healed has picked up distance. One of my buds had his left done last year. I played with him in the Shootout Saturday. It had been a year since I had played golf with him. He never could before but he now blows it past me but after all he is 10 years younger than me. I told him I needed to get the number of his Doc and see if he did back replacement. Seriously I am doing great no pain or stiffness in the last 2 months
  7. One of my sometimes Shootout partners has that exact set. He has a set of new Titleist T-100 irons and he is a sort of OCD type guy anyhow. But I will give you guys credit IF and I say IF I would go the iron cover route those are the ones I would get
  8. Agree I have heard some horror stories about the airlines and clubs. I do not fly but if I did no way would I trust my prized Mac- Hogans or rusty Scotty to the airlines. I would have to do as I have read some guys do and put together a "travel" set
  9. Let them click there old buddy. One of the pleasure sounds connected to the game for me. Besides bag chatter adds street creed along with lead tape LOL. And yes the old Mac blades are back in the bag
  10. Tip of the hat to you for multi tasking----- I am one of those that could not do both I do good to walk and chew Tobacco at the same time
  11. Good Morning. Was up at 4 AM as SOP for me---- Did not play yesterday as I scheduled a yard day for me. Like I said the other day I used to hate yard work but I kinda like it now. The back yard needed more mulching and pick up. I put the mower up on the #3 setting and mulched and bagged. Then I went back with the lowest setting and cut it. Decided to cut the front again because we got a shower Sunday night and those pesky dandelions were up again. Did a couple of little things in the shop. I did do the most work I had in years and did not hurt or get fatigue. I did go in for the rest of the day and went to bed early Getting ready now for League play tee off at 7:30. Besides my Church work I do schedule one day for house work now. Lately it has been Saturday since I stopped playing the Shootouts. Since I was talked into the Shootout Saturday I took Monday. I kinda like my "Schedule" now it gives me some direction
  12. Good Morning Fine Folks--- I have not posted lately because my mornings in retirement are about the same. Up this morning not playing golf this morning. I am doing yard work which I used to hate but sorta liking now. I think it is due to the fact I am grateful to be able to do it now. May practice some this afternoon. I did play 6 times last week which is a new high for me. Had no pain or stiffness or fatigue. LOL those that know me well know the CB deal was not going to last. I put the Mac Blades back in the bag cold turkey Friday. I had been shooting mid 80s in the league with the CBs. Shot a smooth 78 Friday with the blades. Got roped into the Shootout for Saturday by my original team. We shot -9 and -11 won it but we won both of our side bets. I realized mid round Friday that I was more relaxed with the blades in the bag and swung smoother and slower with them.
  13. That more than likely will be the ball I go to when I exhaust my current stash of Srixons. I am going through a few balls now playing 4 and 5 days a week. Not really loosing that many but our course beats them up. I have found and hit some of those Maxflis and am pretty impressed with them
  14. Kinda off topic but they tell me the weather got really nasty after I talked to you on the phone. I do not know I went back to bed as I usually do in bad weather. It partially tore a roof off a house south of me. In Surfside it tore up the old Oak tree in front of the Methodist Church. But believe it or not after all the rain they were riding the fairways at Indigo yesterday morning
  15. My attitude exactly. I tell people all the time I am not in a hurry because I am retired. Lately since joining the league at my club I am sorta on a schedule but it is only because I want to. If I get tired of that I will do something else again on my terms.
  16. We are getting those winds today that you guys got yesterday. Done got out this AM and did my early morning errands. Got the mail, sent off a bill, dropped off the check for the building rent and went to Kroger filled the Caddy up and got my dip for the week. It is funny how quickly one can get things done when the idiots and tourists are not in the way clustering up things. I did all those errands within a 2 mile radius of the house in 30 minutes. Had it been later in the day it would took a hour or more. One of the downfalls of living in a Tourist/ Retirement mecca. But as always I find a way to deal with things
  17. Up early as SOP for me. Did not post yesterday as it was a bad day for me. Tom The Golf Nut and I were supposed to play and we got not only rained out but washed out. It added to my general depression it being the 3rd anniversary of my accident. I had called off of Church anyhow so I went back to bed. I got up and watched the LIV golf which I find entertaining. Like I stated before politics be dammed I like it period. It did lift my spirits some. Later on I read on here about the horrific accident at Chunks workplace. I realized I needed to man up and cheer up other folks had it worse than I imagined. I did say a prayer for those folks and one for my friends on the other site that their wives are going through some bad health issues. Prayer did uplift me and I felt blessed I will never be the same again but I am able to get around and play golf. This morning coffee in hand I watched the rebroadcast of the event in Mexico and am watching the Seniors now. I saw on the early early news that I basically slept through the storm yesterday afternoon. After seeing this I feel blessed again it seems it uprooted some trees about a mile South of me and took part of the roof off another house we had no damage I can see. I am not playing in the small Monday money game> I usually don't I figure it is CPO and I have some errands to run anyhow. I may sneak in some mid morning short game practice. The course is closed this PM because they are having a multi school High School event. Weather permitting I will piddle in the yard some or work in the shop. Since I have been pretty active lately and loosing weight I feel more peppy and do not want to sit around
  18. Tom is visiting and if the rain holds up we get to play golf Sunday afternoon. I am lucky I get to wake up to that everyday. I live about a half mile off the beach as the Crow flies. By the road it is close to a mile
  19. IMHO if that is what you like doing then good for you. I see nothing wrong with it
  20. Naah you are not insane. Like I mentioned before I am a bag ho--- I think at last count I had like 20 various bags including a Green and White Macgregor Tartan Staff and 3 different Ryder Cup bags.
  21. I am using basically the same Titleist staff bag you are. I have had for like 15 years but not used it continually . Since I am not able to walk anymore I ride all the time. I do not carry a lot of stuff but the pocket set up with the side pockets works well for me on a cart. Since I am a full fledged member I am allowed to take a cart to the range when they are available. If not and I want a full practice I just strap it to my vintage Bag Boy pull cart. If just doing short game I put my stuff in an old Sun Mountain Sunday bag. I am old school as heck and like a 3 way only bag so I took the center divider out. I know this bag is not as bulky and as heavy as some of the large cart bags. They are tough and durable too. I am a bag ho amongst other golf equipment so I have a Jones and a Vagabond and a classic Hoofer. But as it is now the old Titleist Mini Staff is the most user friendly for me
  22. One of my favorites and I have several. I admired Mr. Palmer for his charisma and the way he dealt with folks. Nicklaus I loved his overall game and I am a Macgregor man too. Trevino and Seve I admired for their non conventional style of play. LOL the 86 Masters was tough for me because I had Nicklaus and Seve going right down to the wire. Which Jack ended up winning
  23. The famous "Helicopter" follow through. The before mentioned Jim Thorpe had his version of it that was a lower finish and that he came up with as a anti hook swing. I quoted Mr. Palmer one time as in "Swing your own swing not the one you wish you had or someone else's swing" Oh I drew a bunch of flack on WRX one night one from a so called noted guru and his disciples. In fact I have 3 of them blocked to this day over some of the comments. Some people are ignorant enough to think their way or their method is the ONLY way to swing. One of the reasons when I was a class A I never taught. Now my old man was "by the book" which I never subscribed to. As long time members on here know I have never been by the book on equipment either. I say play what works for you and your game no matter the brand or era of a club. Look at my signature it will make OCD people go crazy I have 4 different shafts in my FWs
  24. Lately with me it is just the opposite. When I started playing the clubs in my signature that 5 iron is a rocket. Now the 5 iron has always been my bump and run stick and my get out of jail stick. I had gotten where with the steel shafted blades I was not hitting the 5 iron good. But with that being said I still carry the 7&9 woods and will continue to do so. With me it is all about feeling the shot at the time. I had one of my Stableford partners confused yesterday. He asked on a shot if I was going to hit the 5 iron since I hit it so good. I told him naah not now I am hitting the 9 wood since I was feeling it. I do hit the 9 wood a little higher but work the 5 iron better. I usually tell people when they play with me the first time not to club off of me because I am strictly an instinct player. In all revelation I did make an old fart purchase last week on a great deal. I did buy a Cobra Baffler 29* hybrid with a senior flex shaft. I have messed with it some but can not see it supplementing my 9 wood or 6 iron any time soon. Since it was a great deal I bought it and put it back for the future
  25. Correct as I have said many times before there is no one etched in stone way to properly swing or play this game. The swing gurus don't want to hear it but it is the truth. Growing up with my old man running a course and being around the game all my life I have seen some swings. To add to your great example look back at Allen Doyle and Jim Thorpe. Both unconventional but they got results
