Cheers to the above mention of Peninsula State Park! Just camped there a month or so ago, and missed out on playing the course. They also have what looks to be a really fun, 6-hole short course. Quite the complex they have, especially for a state park! The top courses I have played are also Wisconsin based...still have to hit a lot of the popular tracks in the state, but I have played both Whistling Straits (Irish) and Lawsonia (Links). Both very different experiences, but amazing courses. The Irish course was a special treat, as I got to play a round with my dad. We got to see the famous Whistling Straits sheep and all!

This is from an email I got after I registered for the lottery on June 2nd: "The selection for Practice Rounds and Daily Tournament tickets will take place after the June 21st application deadline and all applicants will be notified in September via email when the process is completed." So applicants still have to wait a couple of months to find out if they did or did not get picked.

Golf Sidekick is my go-to right now. As a higher handicapper, I appreciate the re-focusing of my game to forget about the par on the scorecard. Instead, I can work to manage the course to my skills and abilities, practice and get comfortable with 2 or 3 clubs to boost confidence, etc. His videos are more about the mental side of the game and staying stress-free and relaxed on the course. It's really helping me greatly in that side of things, and I have been enjoying golf much more than I ever have before.

I, too, live in the Greater Milwaukee area, and can hopefully able to offer some suggestions to consider: Of course, there are the options most golfers know about: Kohler (Whistling Straits, Blackwolf Run), Sand Valley/Mammoth Dunes, Erin Hills (which would be super close)...but I might offer some others that are a bit more reasonable, per your request. The Links Course at Lawsonia is an amazing place to play, and is quite reasonable when it comes to cost. It's just about 1 hr. 30 min. northwest of Milwaukee in Green Lake, WI. The course ranks on most Best Public Courses lists out there, and it's always less than $100 to play a round. They even offer all-day unlimited play rates for just over $100 with cart. The course itself is a true throwback to the golden age of golf course design. There is also another course on the property (The Woodlands), which I have not played. Sounds like it's a more traditional parkland layout. I know there are stay-and-play packages available with lodging options on site. I think there are a couple other courses in Green Lake as well, but Lawsonia is the main event up there. I posted some pictures from when I played there in May. I highly recommend playing The Links at some point, no matter what. Door County could be another option, especially in fall. Along with the changing colors of the leaves, Door County offers several courses to choose from, and all would be pretty close together. I've played Cherry Hills in Sturgeon Bay, but I think there are at least 6 or 7 other courses in that area. The one that's next on my to-play list is the Peninsula State Park course. The views of Green Bay and the surrounding water look amazing when I camp up there and drive by the course (if camping is an option for your golf trip, I would definitely recommend staying at Peninsula State Park as well). There's also plenty of other places and things to see in Door County, so it would be a pretty fun several days. SentryWorld up in Stevens Point would be another potential destination, but they are closed until at least September 8 due to the pandemic. Hope this helps!

I found a dozen brand new Srixon Q Star golf balls for sale at a Goodwill for $6 last year, so I picked them up and gave them a chance. I like how they played, and wanted to see how the Q Star Tours performed. So I too took advantage of the BOGO deal around Father's Day, picked up 2 dozen QST balls, and have been enjoying playing them ever since.

If you're going to do the Wisconsin/Kohler trip, don't forget to consider adding in a round at The Links Course at Lawsonia in Green Lake, WI. It's a Top 100 public course, and a round with cart will never cost more than $100. You can actually get there early in the morning on a weekday, and pay $125 to play the course unlimited all day with cart. I played it in May, and it's amazing. A total throwback in golf course architecture and design. It's just about 1 hr. 30 min. away from Whistling Straits...about half way between Kohler and Sand Valley. I've attached some pictures...the first is from the Par-3 7th tee. The hole is famous for having a train boxcar buried under the green.

Pretty much Puma, head to toe. With a couple Nike and Under Armour items thrown in on occasion.

I played the Links Course at Lawsonia in May on a Tuesday...they were running a promotion that you could name your own price. Paid $5 plus cart to play. I think Lawsonia is ranked No. 58 on Golf Digest's Top 100 Greatest Public Courses in the U.S. list.

I'll take pencils occasionally. But I only keep things from really nice courses I'll likely only ever play once. I was actually really surprised and excited that Whistling Straits gave you a metal bag tag right before you head out to the course. It's a really nice "free" souvenir. I also managed to obtain a paper Whisting Straits coaster from the Irish Pub in the clubhouse. To be fair, I did buy a yardage book from the pro shop, too. And donated 4 balls to the course during my round!
