  1. Well... that sounds pretty simple! I did tell them I'd like to hit each club. They are all "MOI" matched instead of matched by swingweight. Too much detail to go into here but suffice to say that every club is supposed to feel exactly the same when you swing it ... and if you were to close your eyes you wouldn't know which club you're swinging. in case you're interested.... http://www.spargogolf.com/pages/frequency-m-o-i-matching-clubs
  2. Going to pick up my clubs I had fit for me on Friday. Any suggestions or tips on what I should be looking out for to make sure they were constructed properly?
  3. thanks... to add to the confusion found some blogs about XP90 vs XP95 shafts! HAHA... maybe they didn't know it was the same thing???
  4. Nope... XP90. This is from the fitter... the confusion on the sticker issue is caused by the fact that Titleist wants the shaft they use to be proprietary. So they call the XP95 shaft by the designation XP90. they are the exact same shafts. same step pattern. same profile. same weight. so unless you purchase titleist, you cannot get shafts that say XP90. Quite confusing. Why can't they call the one they sell to the public 90 plus or something like that? 90 v 95 is really disingenuous.
  5. Question - I was recently fit into an XP 90 shaft but not for Titleist irons. I was told that the XP90 is proprietary to Titleist and that it is the same thing as the XP95 Is this true? Isn't the XP95 heavier by 5 grams? I could not find any information on XP90 on the True Temper site and can't seem to find much anywhere else either....
  6. Yep... and some people bend more - or less - at the hips so the driver sits "comfortably" for them, some folks choke down further, some have a shorter backswing so it's not a challenge to get a long driver back to square at impact, etc. A lot of factors involved ... I was just trying to get a feel if there was a pattern.
  7. I think this is what I'm going to go with. Driver is currently 45 and 3 wd is 43.... This will be the year I stay in the fairway.
  8. didn't get the gap wedge in my new Sterling SL irons and may end up regretting it. PW is 45* and my Callaway wedges are 52/58. Thinking about ordering the 50* gap wedge and bending my 52 to 54. Also realized that I need a lie angle change on my putter so I'm going to get the shaft bent so that the toe doesn't stick up in the air. Thankfully the same fitter can do all of it.
  9. for those that cut driver shaft down... a couple questions: 1. does it correlate to your height? i.e. if you're 6'5" a 46" shaft might not feel long but if you're 5'8" it might seem that way 2. after cutting your driver down did you cut down your fairway (3) wood(s)? My understanding is that you want around a 2 inch difference between a 3 wood a driver - relatively speaking. I'm thinking of going from 45 to either 44.5" or 44 and dropping the 3 wood down to either 42.5 or 42. (I'm 5'10") Thoughts?
  10. simple fix for this... single length clubs; ball position ends up in the same spot for all your irons!
  11. picked up a Titleist 906F4 with graphite design ys-6+ for 30 bucks on the bay... jumped on the 3balls 25 off 200 deal to get a 915d2
  12. 10 to 20 inches from a Noreaster expected Tuesday and Wednesday. Most courses opened March 8. I blame them for jinxing us. [emoji14] Snowed about 3 inches a couple days ago and been below freezing with high winds ever since. With the wind blowing so hard it makes the snow look like desert sand... 13. So I hope I'm not the only one that is obsessed with keeping their clubs clean. What are some of your favorite tricks? A few of mine: use car wash soap and scrub heads clean dry carefully rub with liquid car polish and let dry to a haze wipe to a sparkling shine use 220 grit sandpaper on the grips every month or so to keep them fresh
  14. got a swing gyde training aid today on the bay for 20 bucks. looking forward to giving this a try. Was convinced that it'd be worth a shot based on review and seeing this vid from Dan Whitaker.
  15. was just fitted into Sterling wishon single length irons 5-PW (built off AP1 7 iron length/37") with true temper xp90 shafts and titleist 816 21* hybrid with diamana red 60g stiff shaft.... being shipped and assembled to exacting specs, frequency, moi. Can't wait to pick them up!
  16. just read an interesting article about how Jimmy Walker shortened his driver shaft. just for reference I looked it up and he's 6 feet 2 inches. I would think that shaft length on a driver can be different based on height. I suppose someone that's 6'5" can use a 46" driver but someone that's 5'7" might have a harder time. JW went from 44 to 42 and now at 43. One of the important points I thought was in the article was that with a shorter shafted driver your odds of hitting the sweetspot are better. I like that! How's the short driver working out for Walker? Last week at the WGC-Mexico Championship, Jimmy Walker's driving-distance average was 308.4 yards, good for 13th among the 76-player field. It also was 5.22 percent longer than his average driving distance for the season, which was 293.1. Walker switched from a 44-inch Titleist 917D2 driver into a 42-inch club at the SBS Tournament of Champions at Kapalua in January. The following week at the Sony Open, he went with a 43-inch version of the same driver and has stuck with it. Walker hoped a shorter driver would help him hit more fairways, and because he would be more likely to hit the ball in the sweetspot, he might not lose much distance. So far, the 2016 PGA Championship winner's experiment has produced mixed results. Walker is straighter, having moved up from 183rd in driving accuracy (48.31 percent) to 161st (56.4 percent). As expected he is hitting the ball a little shorter, falling from 301.3 yards per drive (T24) to 295.4 (T66). The troubling stat, however, is that Walker ranks 182nd in strokes gained: off-the-tee (-.445) compared to last season, when he finished ranked 129th at -.141.
  17. I attended the National Golf Expo yesterday in Boston. Wasn't sure what to expect but it was a bit underwhelming. Several vendor booths with info on "Golfing in Maine!", "Golfing in Puerto Rico!", "Golfing in New York!", etc. Surprisingly there were quite a few booths selling used golf balls (sadly, the Truvis had already sold out!) with the majority of them Titleist and a focus on Pro v1 A local vendor (Joe & Leigh's, used to own/run 3balls.com) had a setup with a ton of equipment that was jam packed with people. Assorted competitions - Long drive/putting/chipping... had to pay anywhere from 5-10 bucks and 3 'winners' were picked from those that completed the challenge. Uh..no thanks ...and, what I came for, the golf vendor booths. Mizuno, Srixon, Wilson, Ping, Cobra on one side and TaylorMade, Callaway on the other side. (if I remember correctly). [curious setup...wonder if that was intentional] I couldn't even get in line at the TM booth! there were people lined up 10 deep for 2 hitting mats and they had 99% drivers/hybrids/woods; I saw one M1 and one M2 iron. The line to hit the EPIC driver was much shorter. If you told me that TM was in trouble after going to the expo I would have thought you were losing your marbles...I can't believe they don't turn a profit. ...and you can pretty much just walk up to the other booths (except Mizuno, they were always fiddling with the shafts for people). Got a chance to try the new superlight Wilson D330 driver... 44 grams! That thing was light.... however it was fun to hit! The Triton was there too. I didn't even try it... SOOOO loud... like 2 trash can lids banging together. I'd never own it just because of that. Tried most all of the other stuff - Ping G irons, G driver, i200, iblade; Srixon 355 driver, Mizuno irons, Cobra F7 drivers, Cally XR, Epic drivers, Wilson drivers.... really liked the Cobra drivers, Cobra 1 length irons. For some reason there were only a few launch monitors so it was all just a 'feel' thing. It was just okay.... I think the outside demo days are much better and I didn't win any 'FREE TRIPS!!!' ... Did anyone else in the New England area go? Has anyone else gone to one of these expo events before? Thoughts?
  18. Got my eyes on a Cobra F6+ driver with Adila Rogue Max 65g shaft on theBay... hope I don't get outbid! either way I'll find one somewhere.... and when I do I'm cutting that bad boy down a bit. 45-46" shafts are too long for me!
  19. Nice! That PM grind seems really cool. Bet you can pull off a lot of nice shots with it. Have fun!
  20. 2 questions: 1. will the same strategy work if I use foot spray on the club? A lot of people recommend using athletes foot spray on the club face if you don't have impact tape and that you'll be able to clearly see where the ball impacts the face. 2. if you're at the range and marking up their balls with a pen won't they get a little perturbed ?
  21. The Masters begins in 33 days!!

  22. .... use any derogatory term you'd like, but trust me, as someone who has been in IT for a long, long time... without the "IT guys/nerds" things would stop to function and come to a grinding halt.
  23. interesting article about former world drive champ going to a shorter shaft since he's trying to become a pro. http://golfweek.com/2017/02/28/former-long-driver-jamie-sadlowski-modifies-his-gear-to-chase-tour-card/ One of the biggest changes for Sadlowski involves something most amateurs seldom tweak: grip size. Sadlowski has changed from standard-sized grips to midsize grips with four extra wraps under the bottom hand to remove the taper. His Callaway GBB Epic Sub Zero driver also is shorter, having been trimmed from 45 inches to 44.25. Sadlowski said he plans to move into a 43-inch club soon.
  24. This brings to mind the old adage "Practice like you play"... sometimes hard to do on the range but chisag describes it perfectly. the only time you're ever going to hit your driver twice in a row is if you need to hit a provisional due to a bad shot or take a mulligan (gasp!).... and we *never* hit bad shots on the range! If you're playing a par5 or par4 and you use your driver then play it on the range. Driver/mid iron/wedge ... or Driver/wedge... or Driver/hybrid/wedge... or (you get it) ... but don't just keep pounding out driver shot after driver shot!
