  1. Morning spies. So you may have noticed an article I wrote appeared on the main site today concerning my own experiences with cold plunging, aka ice baths or cold water immersion. If you haven’t seen it yet, here it is: https://mygolfspy.com/news-opinion/why-you-should-consider-cold-plunging/ I wanted to start this thread for multiple reasons. 1) yes, that’s me in the feature photo…here’s the safe space for @cnosil, @GolfSpy BOS and others to get their jokes in. 2) Answer any questions you might have or perhaps share your own experiences 3) Get your feedback…am I off the deep end? How crazy is this? I try to avoid sensationalizing things so I tried to throttle back the enthusiasm a bit for the article, but I have to say, cold plunging has been truly life-changing for me. It’s not the sole contributor but I’m in the midst of a pretty significant improvement in my overall health and cold plunging is a big part of it. Ask away! (And if you do have comments on the article don’t be shy about commenting directly there…helps us writers, and helps the forum and main site.)
  2. Interesting. And not good either, I’m going to be at risk of a speeding ticket every time I head home from work now!
  3. They’re starting to arrive! Did you guys not get shipping notification emails? Usually at least somebody in these threads posts the obligatory “I’m so excited, I just got my shipping notification” post, but so far you guys are going right to the brown box…you’re moving too fast for me.
  4. I did my third Full Speed Spectrum workout today, and I’m getting really optimistic for how much this could pay off. This 195g speed is just 2 mph off of my highest achieved speed at my last Stack program. To get that set speed after just 3 workouts (with a couple swings at 106) and after a month-long layoff has me really really motivated to see how fast I can get it after a full program. I have to keep up with @edingcafter all! I know speed is not linear, this could dip some as the reps climb at first, but I really feel like I’ve finally solved some things and I’m ready to turn a corner. My sleep deprivation issues are behind me, and thanks to the Fit for Golf Velocity program I’m finally training like an in-season golfer instead of a bodybuilder. Most importantly, recovery is getting my utmost attention. Instead of Stacking MWF before the gym, I’m waiting the maximum allowable time in the app without compromising my Grit score. And, I’m Stacking midday when the ol’ CNS is wide awake. And, cold plunging daily…more on that tomorrow. Now to Phase 2 of Full Speed Spectrum. Lots of overload swings; going to be tough, but I’m as fired up for this as ever! Must destroy @GolfSpy BOSat Kingsmill after all. (Better get Stacking Bryan!)
  5. More of what I’ll post in my thread, but I absolutely agree…I’m slowly learning how much rest and recovery is really really important.
  6. Congrats Jason. I’m having a blast working with you bro!
  7. Damn Cody, nice work! I am about to post my latest in my swing thread, but suffice it to say you’re out in front of me. Thanks for that motivation!!
  8. I did do a fitting. I actually had Steelfiber i95s in the Edel’s last year but I hit them really high with an ungodly amount of spin…I was peeling 8-irons back and off greens. The Accra’s brought height and spin down, and my smash factor really climbed…more ball speed and more distance. They’re a $100 a shaft though and I had them pured for the hell of it too. Hey, I don’t really have any other hobbies… Seems like some pictures are in order. I’ll try to do that soon.
  9. Accra TZi’s. No loft added, just had them checked to make sure they were all in spec and a couple of them weren’t. Some of the gains are likely due to just better overall health and fitness, but the shafts are definitely a factor.
  10. I’m definitely considering one, but more so out of curiousity than need. It would be a 3 hybrid replacement, and I hit that club perfectly fine. But, I’m always tinkering, and there is a Ping G430 in the clubhouse that always winks at me. Is it just me or is it hard to find a 7 wood with a stiff shaft off the rack in the big box stores? They all seem to be R flex, or even senior. I typically know what I want shaft wise though, I suppose I could just hit an R flex to get a feel and then just order what I want…
  11. More to follow on this one, but started the season with the Edel’s yesterday. I’ve had them reshafted and loft/lie checked, and while there are other factors at play, I was about a club longer than last season. Very excited to game these and get more out of them this year!
  12. Just read your review. You mentioned a “success rate” of 18 out of 20? How did you define success for the purposes of testing? I’m also curious as to what informs the denominator of that success rate. In other words, at what range of shot are you finding you use it…is it truly restricted to green side chipping for you, or have you attempted 30-40 yard pitch shots? Tell us more in the review!
  13. Had a very similar experience getting fit for the Edel Array. I’d convinced myself I needed a face-balanced putter. SamLab disagrees.
  14. Good morning gents. 42 degrees at tee time, but I’m playing golf today!!!
  15. Here’s my putting lab, for what it’s worth. Maybe not the best decision but there’s enough ceiling height to let me use the Stack on it for speed training, so I do. As a result one of the putts rolls a little funky where I take my stance with the stack. You know, cuz of all those massive ground reaction forces I generate… You’ll notice a swarm of kids putters and training aids in the corner too. And this is on the main floor of the house. My wife is cool like that.
  16. You know enough about putting, and Edel fittings, to know that answer. Scott Fawcett made some videos that I know you've seen talking about how starting a ball on line really isn't that hard. But Edel isn't shy about their claims that most golfers don't actually know where they're aimed. You're taking all the suspense out of my next post Chris...
  17. So regarding those three gamer putters of mine (Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Triple Wide, LAB Mezz Max, and Odyssey White Hot OG Double Wide), I've been measuring performance with them via Stack Putting. I'll spare you the full breakdown of Stack Putting if you're not familiar, but it's essentially a putting app within the Stack speed training app. One of the very cool features for a guy like me stuck in the northeast is that you can build a custom putting combine and measure your performance for practice purposes. In my case, I have an elevated platform putting green with a maximum putt of 10 feet, and it does have some slight break to it in some putts. Here's the combine I created, which is an edit of one of the app's baseline combines. This is only a screen shot (you'd have to scroll to see the full 9-hole combine), but you get the idea...various putt lengths with various breaks. Here's a snap shot of my best round with each of those gamers after 10 combines each: From left to right are my best rounds with the Tri-Hot 5K, the White Hot OG, and the LAB Mezz Max. As you can see, with the two Odyssey putters my speed control is decent to good but I tend to miss left, and with the LAB my speed was off and I tended to push the putt. Next up, the Array fitting and maybe some insight into why i was missing like this.
  18. For only my second session in, and with a little residual core/back soreness, I’m pretty happy with this and increasingly optimistic…
  19. I haven’t, and I’m glad I didn’t in a way. Sure that might have helped a bit, but the fitting for the Array demonstrated that these putters just aren’t a good fit from the jump. More on that soon…
  20. I completely agree with this. Warm up thoroughly; if you’re not sweating before the Stack workout, you’re not warmed up. But the notion that you have to get in better shape before starting is incorrect; you’ll still see speed gains, and your injury risk is low provided you warm-up. What it does mean is the ceiling on your gains is lower. Get in better shape, more flexible and mobile, etc, and you’ll increase your capacity for speed. Can’t fire a cannon from a canoe kind of thing…
  21. With the Edel Array ordered, I thought I'd share some nuances of the fitting process that led to the order of the Array model I've got coming. I'll do that over a series of posts, first sharing the rotation of gamers I've been working through over the past couple of years: From left to right in the pic, an Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K Triple Wide, a LAB Mezz Max 1, and an Odyssey White Hot OG Double Wide. Both Odyssey's are face-balanced and 35", and stock loft and lie. The LAB is torque-balanced, 69 degree lie, 35". I'll first throw out there, I tried the LAB frankly because it was all the rage. If it works for Lucas Glover it must work for me, or something like that. I have also tried the DF whatever...the large pretzel branding iron thing. I'm sure I am greatly offending LAB acolytes like @GolfSpy SAM, but I was unimpressed...I struggled mightily with speed control with the LAB (either model), and instead of my typical pull miss, I missed to the right. As for the Odyssey's, I like them, and I like the feel of the insert. But, I do tend to miss with a bit of a pull with both of them. I have been convinced for years that I need a face-balanced putter based on my own feels and perceptions, and these two obviously fit the bill. But, as I've already documented, I am not the best putter, and it's probably time for a change. I'll post soon with some Stack Putting assessments demonstrating those struggles with these.
  22. Definitely getting antsy. For a minute there I thought I might be able to start my season this coming Sunday. Nope, son has a flag football game, so round 1 will be next Sunday. Maybe, just maybe, it arrives by then...?
  23. Wow. I gotta go Maverick Black Ops here. Gorgeous.
