  1. I broke 80 for the first time on Saturday morning. It was on a par 71 which is a a little * on the 79 but still it is a new personal best and feels amazing. I played at randall oaks golf course in west dundee, IL. shot a 42 on the front with 1 birdie but the greens were in really great shape and It felt more like a 39 or 40 because I got so close to dropping several more putts on that front. I started the back off with a double after messing up the tee shot with my driver and 2 putting a very tough green and following up with another bogey when an 8 foot putt lipped out. I flipped the switch on 12 and mashed the driver down the middle, put a 50* wedge from 106 to 12 feet and poured int the putt for birdie. I parred out hitting all but one of the last 6 greens in regulation with another 3 putts that were extremely close to going in. I just wish 2 of those putts on the back 9 fell in so I could have shot even par over 9 holes. Looking back there were a few bad shots that easily could have saved me some strokes, but putting saved me as i had 6 one putt holes. I couldnt believe how easy it felt to actually score like that, especially considering the front 9 was not that great.
  2. Hard numbers, data and facts. If you can prove one thing is going to do more of what you want ( distance or spin or whatever) given the same perameters then it's better. Sent from my LG-H810 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  3. Played 18 at Schaumburg golf club, hit my first ever 9 hole 40 on the front, started drinking and hit a 49 on the back. The 40 had me motivated so I went to my home course, prairie landing and hit my second ever 9 hole 40 on the back and a 42 on the back while soaking wet in sweat and rain and dark, while running with a pull cart to set my new personal best at an 82. Even parred the hardest hope after getting attacked by a bird on the tee box. Sent from my LG-H810 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  4. It's probably the most frustrating thing that can happen in my opinion, especially considering how frequently I find my ball in some deep woods or nasty weeds with zero trouble. Losing a well struck ball to an obvious location is certainly not how you want to start a round. Golf is hard. Sent from my LG-H810 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  5. Well I shot an 84 on Saturday which is excellent for me, so my expectations were high yesterday. I went to the first tee and it was extremely windy, and i hit a 3 hybrid well, with the wind, it had the flight i was looking for, nice little draw just to the left of the fairway, I watched it the whole way through, and I couldnt find the ball. i looked for legitimately probably 20 minutes and I covered so much ground and had to have walked back and forth over it 10 times and never found it which obviously had me frustrated, and it got into my head. I proceeded to play probably the worst 9 holes of my season. It is haunting me. I need to improve my mental toughness.
  6. Gotta be srixon. I literally thought their balls were all trash and knew nothing of their equipment for a while. Turns out the q star is basically the best ball in it's price range, and their driver just won the most wanted. New kid at work is playing the 565 irons too and they look and feel incredible. 7. 100 took me maybe 5-10 round 90 maybe 40 -50 rounds Still working on breaking 80, I've shot an 83, that was my best. been playing very frequently for almost 2 years Sent from my LG-H810 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  8. Legitimately probably about 50. I play almost every day after work and usually Saturday and Sunday. Weather permitting. Sent from my LG-H810 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  9. I only bought my membership because 1) it was extremely convenient, only 4 minutes away from my office and 2) the practice facilities are exceptional. I don't like playing the same course over and over, especially walking one that's very spread out like my current course, but since it is so close and the practice facilities include a range, 3 practice holes 2 putting greens and a massive short game area, there is no excuse not to get at least 30 minutes in every day. If you are looking to play a lot and don't spend a ton of time practicing or the courses you are considering aren't convenient, I would opt to avoid the membership in favor of variety. 10. Went to the range, practiced full swing, really hunting targets and switching between clubs very frequently as opposed to hitting several balls in frequent concession. After I was warmed up, mentally played the front nine adding up score in my head. Didn't do very well mainly because I was struggling with my driver. I cant seem to work on that enough, I have weeks and months when my driving is super consistent, then I will slice 2 in a row on the course and not be able to establish any consistency thereafter for a few weeks. I then went and practiced my putting for 45 minutes until my back couldn't handle it anymore. Primarily putts 7-15 feet, trying to really drain shots that could potentially be for birdie or to save a tough up and down for par. Used a metronome for rhythm, I was putting better than usual. After that I practiced hitting low spinning pitch shots in that 40-80 yard range. Trying to get shots that will check up and stop rolling out more quickly. The course I play is often times extremely windy, so hitting high pitches up in the air where the wind is pretty unpredictable is just out of the question and I have been struggling to make perfect contact with those shots consistently. This means lots of practice shallowing out my swing on pitches for a lower flight, trying to really compress and spin the ball. I was surprised at how easy and consistent it was once I got the hang of it. Especially easy when attacking a green thats sloped towards you. Like throwing darts! I need to find a way to increase the pressure on myself, I have a tendency to do a lot of volume practice when trying to learn something new or engrave something in my mind and get used to it. I would like to put myself in more real golf situations to increase consistency on the course. Any recommendations?
  11. That's great, I always try to play 2vs2 cumulative stroke play when I have a weekend foursome. You get that player/caddy teamwork going on and you have to think strategically to make every shot count, and since you have opponents, the pressure is on. Makes the game much more fun to have someone talk strategically with you. Sent from my LG-H810 using MyGolfSpy mobile app
  12. I couldnt agree more. I just finished reading dave pelz putting bible and started on the short game bible, trying to take in as much as I can. Thats where I've been focusing most of my practice recently. I played again yesterday, and again my putting was trash... missed a 4 foot putt on a steep downhill for birdie on 2 and it got in my head for sure. I think my lag putting and green reading needs some significant work, left myself with too many second putts from 5-6 feet. Also chunked a couple shots with the wedges that cost me bigtime. I might order a tent from amazon and just camp out at the short game practice area. I also just bought some stuff from ace hardware, to make a diy Navigator Putting aid because 50$ is blasphemy. If it works out I will try to make a post on how I did it.
  13. Yeah, I made it to the practice green on my lunch break, because I couldn't get the number 78 out of my head. ohhh what could have been.
  14. I shot my lowest score to date yesterday. in under 2 years, from my start, I shot an 83 which i am very happy with since i 3 putted 5 times. consistent ball striking, risk management, and getting up and down with my wedges to save par. I'm fired up.
  15. mizuno t7 50, 54 and 58s. i dream about them.
