  1. If it's going to be cart path only, the course better allow walking, or chances are about 90% or more that I am NOT going to play that course that day .... end of story!
  2. I started playing golf at age 36 (almost 37) when I "retired" from playing baseball (I still played softball until age 64). My baseball career was fairly serious, with two years of professional ball in Puerto Rico and one year playing "semi-pro" ball in the US, plus another 13 years playing high-level amateur baseball with college and former pro ballplayers until the end of my age 36 season. There was a myth back then in the 1970s and early '80s that the golf swing would ruin your baseball swing and most of my baseball coaches/managers and team owners either strongly discouraged playing golf or forbid it entirely for their team members.
  3. Yes. I almost always walk, and I carry my bag 2/3 of the time when I play, even for 18 holes if the course isn’t too hilly or spread-out. This week, I have already walked more than 34,000 steps playing golf.
  4. Previous models have had the stay-put laces. All except for the very first Squairz model.
  5. Sorry to have disturbed you. It is clear that you are just far too sensitive. I'm done with you.
  6. I didn’t say that YOURS didn’t come off; I said that the same has never happened with any of the other three pairs of Squairz shoes that I have owned and/or still own and wear. That comprises more than 400 rounds of golf over the course of more than 6 years.
  7. I hope the Rangers whup the Guardians really good!
  8. That is American Flags plus guitars and musical staffs in the design on those shoes.
  9. By the way, because a few of you have commented and asked questions about them, this is what my Squairz USA ARROW with the "Country Sole" model looks like:
  10. The little rubbery "nubs" have NEVER come off of the laces on any of my Squairz shoes, and I estimate that I have played 100+ rounds in my black Speed Bold model, and well over 150 rounds in my red-white-and- blue "Americana Country" model.
  11. Oh, these shoes are DEFINITELY waterproof! We have had rain on 12 of the last 15 days, and I have played in a couple of downpours plus on days that followed 3 or 4 consecutive rainy days, and there was no water seepage whatsoever.
  12. About 1/4" to 1/2" (less than 1/4" with wedges and irons, 1/4" with hybrids and fairway metals, up to 1/2" with my driver ..... the closer, the better!
  13. FINAL UPDATE PRIOR TO SCOTLAND TRIP: Yesterday afternoon, I played my 15th round of golf while wearing the Squairz VELO golf shoes. This has consisted of (7) 18-hole rounds and (8) 9-hole rounds. The last three rounds, I have walked and carried my clubs for two reasons -- 1.) I am getting ready for Scotland, and 2.) I wanted to test and see which carry bag and bag contents (other than my golf clubs, of course) will be most comfortable for my caddies and for me on the days when caddies are not to be provided. My travel bag is being packed today and will be picked up tomorrow for shipping to Scotland, as is always my practice on these golf trips, and the next time I will see my clubs, and the Squairz VELO golf shoes will be on May 25 when we get to the Fairmont St. Andrews Hotel. Luckily, I have lots of other golf clubs and two other serviceable pairs of older Squairz golf shoes for use in the three rounds of golf that I have scheduled in PA, NJ and DE prior to our flight to the UK next Friday. Now, to the Squairz VELO shoes -- They continue to provide great stability and comfort while walking the golf courses and hitting shots, as well as for my range sessions which happen prior to every round. The shoes still look virtually brand-new, and they are unquestionably the easiest golf shoes to keep clean that I own or have ever owned. In addition, the soles are much easier to keep free of twigs, stones, compacted leaves and other debris. I don't know what Squairz has done to make this happen, but it is greatly appreciated by me! Next reports will come from "the home of golf" in about 12 to 14 days, followed by my final review when we return to the USA on June 9, 2024.
  14. I thought that it was bad being a Buffalo Sabres fan. The Detroit Red Wings may be a franchise with a great history, but that franchise has been a disaster for more than a decade, too!
  15. Correct-O-Mundo, Sam! I actually see many more failures in Callaway's composite clubheads than I do in TM's composite club faces.
  16. As I am sure you know, I am a former Marine, and was an enlisted man who was selected out of USMC Basic Training at PI to go to Officer Candidate School at Quantico. I tend to be quite unfiltered and people rarely have to guess what I really think on any subject.
  17. That story reminds me of my friend “Cap”, who, at age 79, has already shot up to 6 strokes under his age several times in 2024, and has won about every amateur and senior amateur golf tournament in New Jersey. He’s a nice guy — to a point — but has zero patience with clowns and fools, and in particular with people who try to give him golfing advice. “Cap” is a retired iron worker who is about 6’-2”, 200 lbs and is strong as two bulls. When he gets irritated or pushed to the edge of the “patience cliff”, he will not hesitate for a nanosecond in telling people where to get off and what he will do if they don’t shut up (often in quite graphic terms). Many people are afraid of him, but he’s really a nice guy, as long as you don’t act like an ass or try to give him golf advice.
  18. Abso-friggin-lutely! Ball hawks with retrievers and guys who don’t give a crap about the players that they are holding up are golfers that I never want to be paired with again after one time playing golf with them!
  19. The same thing goes for me! Even when I was 42 to 60 years old and played to a 6 to 8 handicap, most (or at least many) of the golfers that I played with were better golfers than I was. About the only sport where I rarely played with many athletes who were much better than me was baseball. Of course, I had tryouts with four MLB teams and played professional baseball for 3 years, and back then I played with a fair number of guys who were better players than I was. Some of those guys made it to MLB (remember Gary Carter, Steve Swisher, Dennis Martinez and both Don Baylor and Bobby Bailor?). I played with or against all of those guys, and Steve Swisher was actually signed by the Chicago Cubs out of a MLB tryout camp that I was at (there were at least two other catchers in addition to Swisher at that camp, and one of the others by the name of Mike Nally was signed by the Montreal Expos and wound up as the backup to Gary Carter for a couple of years before he retired from professional baseball and became a high school baseball and football coach).
  20. Almost NOTHING bothers me more than slow players on the golf course, and that definitely includes golfers who spend 8 to 10 minutes looking for a lost golf ball. I generally say something like “the three minute search period has long passed; just drop a ball and play on”. Some guys take it well; others get downright nasty when I remind them that we need to pick up the pace of play. One great thing about the guys that I played with yesterday is that no matter how badly they played, we all maintained a great pace of play, keeping up with the threesome ahead of us. All four of us were walking (I carried my bag, the other three had push carts). The front nine took only 1:35, but the back nine was a little slower because things got backed up just a bit. Still, we walked the full 18 holes in just over 3:30.
  21. Unless the golfer is a total jerk on the golf course, I don't care what their handicap is; I just play golf and enjoy the company on the course. Yesterday, my best friend and I were paired with two younger golfers, both of whom I estimate were more than 35-40 years younger than us. Nobody discussed what our handicaps were, but I suspect that both of the other guys were 20-30 handicap golfers (my buddy and I are both in the mid-teens in handicap, so we're not the greatest golfers on Earth by any means). I happened to have a very good round yesterday, shooting 6 over par, which is rare for this 14+ handicapper, but I don't think that the other guys felt uncomfortable or intimidated, although one of the younger golfers started "pressing" because he was having excessive difficulty with his short game. Still, we enjoyed pleasant non-golf and golf-related discussions and even shared a few jokes.
  22. I doubt it. I use a 14-slot carry bag and the weight both in the club area and the outer pockets is very evenly distributed.
  23. That is the exact procedure that I use every time that I adjust the front wheels. It lasts for about a week (2 or 3 rounds of golf) and then they always go back out of alignment ... and ALWAYS to the right.
  24. Two years later: I still have my original Evnroll ER2 putter that was fitted to me by Guerin Rife himself at the 2017 PGA Merchandise Show. I sold my ER7 model and replaced it with an ER8v Evnroll last year. However, after hitting a pristine preowned Evnroll ER10 Outback putter that was in the GolfGalaxy store near me several times over the last month, I asked my favorite sales associate there two questions: “is there any room for negotiation on the price?” — YES; and “can I take it out on the course to try it in real world conditions?” — another YES (I play golf with a couple of the store’s employees). After about 30 putts on the practice green at my course and 9 holes of rain shortened golf, I went back to the Golf Galaxy store and plunked-down $50 + tax and walked out with this “ugly” ER10 Outback putter. I will be playing this ER10 putter this afternoon and hopefully taking a few $$ from my playing partners!
