  1. @Jim Shaw I’m Guilty as charged. If I asked about launch angles, most of my buddies would ask what have I been smoking or drinking when at the end of the day, we’re just trying to get the ball as close to the hole as possible. As you, @cnosil and others have eloquently pointed out, technique and varying how you deliver the club to the ball plays a very large role. You can manipulate launch by varying technique and even then you still have to execute. I fall into one of the small (very) groups that uses the available launch monitor data with lots of practice to try and improve my game and hope to become more consistent. It’s the science guy in me trying to understand the numbers. Which leads to rabbit hole number 2, chasing the numbers. Also, guilty as charged. So, I appreciate your patience in that I’ve fallen, but can’t get up.
  2. Good morning to all. Enjoying my morning coffee and it feels more like spring than the middle of February. So I’m enjoying this as long as it doesn’t snow in April. Came across this and it’s a real throw back in time. How many can remember spy versus spy? Have a great day.
  3. Jim, you are correct, the overview on wedge lofts is a good one. https://mygolfspy.com/news-opinion/how-to-choose-the-right-wedge-lofts/ Getting fit for wedges is most helpful to ensure that you get ones that work best for you. To help guide you with respect to bounce and grind options for your wedges, ask yourself are you steep or shallow on your delivery, do you pick the ball clean with little to no divot or do you take large divots. Do you typically play in soft or hard turf conditions. The problem is which bounce and grind option work best for you and your game without getting totally confused or you play in all kinds of conditions and turf. Ideally, you may want one with lower bounce and one with higher bounce to allow you to play a variety of shots and conditions around/near the green (Raflewski). Path will also affect bounce and grind selections. So for someone with an out to in path and a tendency to be steep and take large divots, you want more bounce (e.g. 12*) If your path is in to out and you are shallow, with little to no divots, you want less bounce (e.g. 8*) With wedges ideally you want your ball to launch 1/2 of the stated loft -2. So for 60*,launch at 28, for 58*, launch at 27*. (Source: Aaron Dill of Vokey/Titleist). The Vokey wedge selector tool is a good place to start, but won’t replace an actual fitting. https://www.vokey.com/tools/wedge-selector-tool.aspx
  4. A fine good morning to all. It’s going to be at least a 2 cup of coffee morning as I work through reading all the posts. I’m reminded of how many kind, nice and helpful people there are in this community. Very refreshing and puts a smile on my face. For Wednesday’s message of the day. Have a wonderful day everyone.

  6. See, forum to the rescue. That’s one very sweet looking putter. Well done.
  7. Beautiful day for golf. Lovely, balmy weather. Great day for shorts.
  8. A very good morning to all. Working on my second cup of coffee as I’m still waiting for the first one to kick in or maybe I’m just moving slower this morning. How do you know you have a spoiled husky/dog. When she gets up with you early in the morning, you let her out so she can do her business. Comes right back in, gets her morning treat and then heads back to the warm bed you just vacated and is curled up on your pillow with her stuffies and she’s not moving. Don’t know whether to laugh or high five her. Smart little thing. Needless to say, I’m up but she’s still in bed. Have a wonderful day.
  9. Outstanding job Ben. Way to ride the rocket ship up the leaderboard to top 5. Very well done. So, can Javs catch RoverRick? Continued excellent play by Randall Robbins. We’re in for an exciting final 4 weeks.
  10. Jamie, so sorry to hear that. Didn’t they tell you when you moved to Switzerland that the word convenience apparently isn’t in the German lexicon, especially when it applies to refunds. The Germans do some things exceptionally well, but in this case, I think you are experiencing a classic case of “Arbeit geht wek”, translated as “work go away” when they don’t answer your calls. You will get it sorted out eventually.
  11. Good morning to all. An early start to the day, coffee is going down very nicely on a coolish morning, but the huskies are happy. I thought I would try a different approach today/this week. Have a great and enjoyable day.
  12. I would have to go back to Australia to visit these guys. Naturally, I would then have to travel to New Zealand to explore the scenic wonders of that country. Or maybe travel to South Africa and go on Safari. Too many good and unique choices.
  13. Tend to prefer the morning shift as usually you can get your round in quickly, but during the heat of the summer, have found the evening shift, aka twilight is quite pleasant. Temperatures and humidity often better, still can play quickly and at a discount to boot.
  14. What an intriguing and thought provoking question. Had to think about this for a bit. Underrated for me, means a little off the beaten path or difficult to get to or perhaps not as well known, but high quality, visually stunning or challenging or both. Having said that here are my choices. New Zealand - visually stunning, just takes a long time to get there. Say hello to Tara Iti, Cape Kidnappers, Jack’s point, Kinloch etc. Asia, specifically Vietnam, Thailand Eastern Europe specifically Bulgaria (take a bow Thracian cliffs). Turkey would also qualify as underrated and off the beaten path Austria/Switzerland- better known for skiing, but visually stunning and the food and desserts in Vienna are fabulous. South Africa - always wanted to go. France and Portugal Canada, - Okay, I may be a bit biased with this one, but many fabulous places from Cape Breton on the East coast (Cabot Cliffs, Cabot Links), Alberta, (Banff Springs Jasper Park) BC (Capilano, Shaughnessy, Tobiano), Ontario (St. George’s, Hamilton, etc) Mexico, particularly Cabo San Lucas area. ( Diamanté, Querencia, Quivira). Not inexpensive but a fabulous experience.
  15. So with golf cancelled today, some further thoughts on the meaning of KFT. What’s your favourite? Only Jason knows for sure. But seriously, congratulations again to @GolfSpy_KFT@GolfSpy AFG and @GolfSpy_SHARK and the other very hard working members of the Forum staff. Job well done. Your choices are: 1. King For Today 2. Kentucky Fried Things (tees) ( a beautiful blend of 11 herbs and spices) 3. Korn Ferry Tour (need I say more) 4. Koach for tonight 5. Kung Fu (swing) trainer (coming soon) 6. or nice try, Keep F _ _ _ing Trying
  16. A sincere congratulations to Jason, Hayes and Mark for your well deserved recognition and promotions. Your many efforts behind the scenes is greatly appreciated by us all. Now, I just have to learn to keep all the Golfspy tags straight. So Jason now that you’re on the KF Tour, will you help AFG Hayes, getoffmylawn before Mark the Shark arrives. Well done guys.
  17. Good morning to all. Enjoying my morning espresso in front of the fireplace. Music is on. Huskies have been watered and fed. The sun is shining and while still cool looks to be another nice day. Your morning quiz question is. Have a great day.
  18. @EasyPutter thank you and well done. Hats off to you and all other veterans. You don’t get nearly enough respect you should get and deserve.
  19. Good morning to all. Caffeine has kicked in and Snoopy has his happy feet in motion. Keep smiling and enjoy your day.
  20. Javs, helpful article. Thanks for sharing.
  21. It’s always beneficial to be fit for your driver. Lofting down will open the club face slightly and in theory reduce spin. Lofting up will close the club face slightly. See below Trackman driver fitting - carry optimizer Hope that helps.
  22. Love this. Where’s my breakfast.
  23. Good morning everyone, happy Ground Hog day and a good Friday to all. Enjoying my morning cup of coffee wondering will he or won’t he see his shadow. As long as I can start golfing again outside early in the spring, I’m happy. May everyone have a great day and weekend.
