Dan1993
Howdy Spies! Question for the group! This year I've decided to take my golf game a bit more seriously, and have worked on starting to play at least twice a month, if not every Friday as time allows. My game right now is mostly 9 holes after work on Friday, and have been averaging between +10 and +14. After talking with the wife, we decided that at the end of the season, if I'm still serious about playing, play consistently and get my average down to single digits through 9, we can set some budget aside for a full bag fitting. My question for the group, how do you go about mentally building a bag in the mean time? I know nothing matters until I really get the fitting, but I've been looking at my current bag (signature) and trying to figure our where my gaps are, and how I may need to shift my club set up. My current 14 club setup is: Driver, 3 Wood, 4 Hybrid, 4-PW Irons, 52*, 56*, 60* and putter. But I feel like I have gaps and overlap. My 4i gets used used low punches and escape from the forest. my wedges are all mostly used for chipping around the green and greenside bunkers, and rarely used as a full swing club, and my PW is my main full swing wedge. Looking at what my new bag might look like, this is what I've got so far, and clubs I think may suit me, full fitting dependent: Driver 10.5* (Ping 430 Max 10K) Wood 3W 15* (Ping 430 Max) Hybrid 3H 19* (Ping 430) Irons 5-PW, GW 22*-48* (Mizuno 923 Hot Metal Pro) Wedges 52*, 56*, 60* (PXG 0311 3X Forged) The way I figure, this give me an extra wedge to gap between my PW and 52*, and gets rid of the overlap at the top of my bag between my hybrid and lower lofted iron. Thoughts? elight
I would think you will use a 5/7 wood and 4 hybrid far more than you use an extra gap wedge and a lob wedge. I would suggest buying fewer clubs and spending the saved money on additional lessons, which is likely to be more helpful right now in lowering your scores. I am similar to you, and I roll with 12 clubs, and don't think I've had a situation yet this year where I thought having an additional one would have made a significant difference.
