Lgregg33
How would you lay out the wedges in your bag if your included AW was 48 degrees of loft? Would a collection of a 53-54 and a 58 be sufficient gapping? I currently own a very used 58 and 60 degree that I play with out of it is what I currently have. Both could afford to be replaced but I just don’t know how to round out my bag given what I currently own. Any insight would be great. Warrior42111
It really depends on the shots you're going to hit and course conditions. I have a 48 Gap from New Level then I have a 54 and 60 S22. Catch is the 54 and 60 only get 3/4 swings max and I decide on club based on ground conditions. he 54 is high bounce and the 60 is low. Lgregg33
I’m still learning the wedge nuances, but despite that, the hand me down 58 and 60 that I use, I use fairly well. That’s the best part of my game all around. I just have realized as I’ve played more consistently this year and last, that I lack that mid distance club between the AW and 58-60. In other words, I have distances that require a more full swing from those 2 high lofted clubs. I guess I need to middle them with a 53-54 and that would allow me to back off the full swings on those clubs. Thanks for your input Quote Just wanting to enjoy the game as much as possible
slash25rc
I play a 48 gap as well with 54 and 58 and have been pleased with it. I have been thinking about bending the 54 to a 53 to have 5 degrees between all of them. Have been thinking about taking out my 4H, since I have a 7W too, and throw in a 63 (probably a 62 bent) degree wedge at the bottom of the bag just for bunkers, flops, and around 55-60 yard 3/4 shots so I don't have to take as much off a 58 for. The 4H stays in the bag for windy days, but I still don't use it but once every few rounds. cnosil
I'll reverse the question. What distance(s) between those clubs are you unable to hit with your current setup but feel like you need to be able to hit. Find the club that hits that distance. I currently use a traditional 52, 56 & 60 setup, but i'm in the process of rebuilding the lower end of my bag. I will be getting a set of irons which are 4-GW, and will only be carrying a 53° or 54° and a 60° - in terms of "specialised" wedges, that is. I've realised I use my GW far more as a "full" club than for playing around the greens, so why not just play the iron instead of adding an extra "specialised" wedge? I think this will massively simplify the lower end of my bag and make things less complicated, so this could be a route you may want to look down yourself. RyanGi
Since, usually, I got my wedges pretty well, I’ve got a 48°, a 54° bent down to 53°, and a 58°. My PW is a 43°, so I’m 5° between each. I did it this way so that I full swing the 43, 48, and (usually) the 53, and just use the 58° with 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and full swings. I prefer to keep my swings as consistent as possible and only metering one club helps that. The only issue I ran into is that my 48° is actually a low bounce 50° that’s bent down, so it’s got barely any bounce. I’m a sweeper so it usually works out ok, but it’s a fine line with that club if the turf is all dried out or the lie is really thin.
