  1. Just started played in October and I ended the year at about a 29 unofficial (18birdies) handicap with about a dozen rounds. I sold a bunch of stuff on FB to finance getting fitted for a whole new bag and here are goals for 2021: Break 100 Break 90 Break 80 Cut handicap in half (<15) [currently 22.6] Make an eagle Average driving distance by end of year > 250 Play 5 new courses [1/5 so far] Round with no 3 putts Round with no double bogeys Play once a week(or 52 rounds) [4/52] Average <$20/round [$17/round so far] I played out of my mind in my 3rd round of the year and knocked off a couple of those but the rest will be much more difficult
  2. I'm pretty new to golf in general, especially specifics for equipment. Recently got fitted for new clubs through the whole bag and getting used to hitting TSi2 driver and TSi3 3-wood. Working slowly on reigning in a wicked slice off the tee so have been mostly playing 3-wood off the tee while I work on the driver during practice sessions to at least get closer to the fairway. Last week I played 27 holes using 3W off the tee the whole time and hit highest % of fairways I've hit and with a very even dispersion of misses left and right (which is highly unusual for me as I'm normally always right). My question is if anyone has any experience or thinks it would be an advantage to game a shorter shaft on my driver for more control but more distance than 3W while practicing with my typical length driver until I can get more consistent with that? Hopefully this makes sense and is in the right spot
  3. I'll be honest, I had no idea this was a rule until just now so I appreciate that info! I prefer to putt with a ball with 3 lines on it to help with alignment but get a little distracted when playing that ball through the rest of the course and assumed since you can mark and replace on the green, using a different ball was fine. Probably saved me an embarrassing interaction in the future. Appreciate it!
  4. As I've just started playing the last few months, I like playing with a brighter color ball (normally yellow) around most of the course but prefer the look of a traditional white ball while putting. Also have considered a sleeve of nicer balls for putting for better feel without the risk of losing them. Wondering if anybody else out there is weird like me or if I'm all alone on this one?
  5. Good morning all! I'm looking for a cheaper, but quality push/pull cart that someone is looking to get rid of. Looking at taking advantage of a couple programs at local courses that allow walking for much cheaper so if anyone is looking to get ride of push/pull cart, let me know. Thanks so much! (I'm also newer here so if this type of post isn't allowed here, please just delete!)
  6. I think there are a bunch of nets that probably do well for most folks out there from what I’ve seen. I would suggest finding a drop down similar to the spornia net (honestly you could probably make your own with some zip ties and a sheet of canvas or something similar) to attach to the net for impact if you’re hitting real balls. This makes it so there’s just something cheaper you can replace when it wears out and have a nice cushion vs blasting straight into the net Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  7. I lucked into one of these practically brand new on FB marketplace for $75 and it's been incredible.
  8. Interesting. My question is if you're using the grint for hdcp, why not use it to track shots on the course as well? Golfpad that much better?
  9. Sorry for the last question. Feels like you use/are looking for similar things to it that I am (love studying data/stats). You go through local club for handicap registration then input everything into GHIN site/app? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  10. Really appreciate all the help. Sounds like best option is just to join through local club to be able to have GHIN access online and anything I need. Appreciate it! Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  11. That’s awesome. I’ve got a couple buddies who live over that way. I’ve seen a couple courses pop up on Golfnow I’ll probably get over to play at some point. I saw you use the grint as well. Any quick reviews on that? Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
  12. All this has been really helpful. As a newbie, and playing most of the time with guys who aren't going to get any sort of handicap, how does this method go about being attested to by guys I'm playing with. I've seen that you can input scores online via website/app but noticed on Grint and such that I could input email address for it to be sent to people I played with even if they didn't have a Grint account. How does that work with GHIN?
  13. Yeah definitely looking for something that will stay with me which was why the VSGA eClub seemed like a good option because it includes GHIN and the VIP card for deals at VA courses. Yes I live in Purcellville but have been playing mostly a handful of courses out in Front Royal since they're a little more on the affordable side for me. Played the most at Bowling Green North out there.
  14. Figured it might be good to throw a post in here and possibly connect with some folks nearby How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? First time I played was in college and played on very rare occasion over the past decade or so. During the fall picked it up more seriously and really enjoying the challenge of learning/improving. Informal handicap through 16 rounds tracked on 18birdies is 25.7. Hadn't been able to break through 100 and then last week played out of my mind and shot 87. What do you love about golf? There's a lot to love. Always been competitive so I love the competition against myself and others. Great to be outside and play casually with friends as well What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I came across the site while doing research for new clubs and loved the unbiased/data driven reviews. Don't know anyone else yet Where are you from? What is your home course? Live in Purcellville (Loudoun County/Nova). Typically play a lot of the courses in Front Royal as they're a little more in my price range. Have played Bowling Green North the most What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best thing is that there are a good amount of courses to try, worth thing is a lot of the ones in my immediate vicinity aren't cheap. What do you do for a living? I'm the Area Director for Western Loudoun for a non-profit organization called Young Life How’d you pick your user name? My parents picked it
  15. Those are both very helpful thank you. If there's anyone local to VA it seemed at least looking at VSGA website that doing it through eclub also included the VA VIP card which included deals at some courses as well. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with that.
  16. Good afternoon. I'm newer to playing more consistently (since early October or so) and would like to keep an official handicap more so to have an not lose information as I try to get better than use in tournaments (although maybe one day!). Currently I'm just tracking rounds using 18birdies which gives me an unofficial handicap but I'd rather have a place where it won't get wiped if I switch to a different app. I'm not a member at a local club and can't really afford to join one. I was looking at just doing online only handicap or if it would be better to go through a local golf club. If I do club, would it make a difference in going through closest club to my house or the one I play most regularly, which is a little further? Appreciate it.
  17. Yeah I'll be using it mostly just around the green in places where I've got to get up and over something. Oddly I've always hit a pretty consistent flop type shot so just looking to have the right club for that. Definitely think at least the length will be important. Appreciate it.
  18. Yeah I've seen a lot on the CBX2 and ease and versatility. Appreciate all the advice.
  19. This is incredibly helpful. I was doing some research earlier and read an article that said essentially the same thing that the wedges you're less likely to take full swings with don't have as much droop so typically play a little more flat so lie angles get a lot less. I'm definitely newer to playing consistently and saw a lot of reviews suggesting the CBX2 and ES21 as well so that's great advice for waiting to see how the T300's feel and then making a call. I picked up a cheap Vokey 58* 4 bounce on FB that I'll play with (poorly) while I wait and then sell that one once I make a final call. Appreciate the feedback. Really helpful!
  20. I got fitted a couple weeks ago for a new set of T300's that I'm waiting on to come in. I was able to get 9 piece set with 4-PW + W1 and W2 (essentially GW and SW). Looking to add a LW to round out the bag and wondering if it's worth it to custom order one with same specs as my irons (+1", 3* upright, stiff shaft) or if it will really make that much difference on the wedge. Thanks!

  22. I actually just got fitted for the TSi3 9 degree driver myself. During fitting I hit both the 2 and 3 for the 3-wood and his the TSi2 MUCH better. The 3 just felt really big behind the ball and 2 was a lot more solid/controlled coming off
  23. Would agree with anyone here saying going to get fitted vs. guessing. Do research and look up local places that have great reviews. Ask people you know that have been fitted and had a good experience. I found a local place and going through their reviews saw the same name over and over for good reviews. He was a little more expensive but the way I think about it if I'm paying $100 to get fitted and then playing once a week over the next 5 years, that's $0.38 per round to play with the right equipment. Well worth it. And those guys get better reviews for a reason. I went for iron fitting with an idea of what I wanted and he didn't try to push anything else once he confirmed that would work for me, we got through in just over 30 minutes instead of the hour so he gave me the $50 fitting fee that rolled into the purchase that day, so essentially free.
  24. Appreciate both of those words as well. I just got fitted last week with the same guy for irons and I'd shot an email about wanted to go with the models that are going into being last year but we'll make sure of that. Thanks for all the help!
  25. Incredibly helpful. This is what I was curious about. Thank you .
