  1. Thank you for the very kind words I chose this pattern as, as you say, it's probably the most common pattern. I tried a few different patterns on some steel billets to gauge sound & feel and this style seemed to be the best. That being said I would be interested in trying a horizontal pattern just to see how it differs. I can understand the logic that the horizontal milling should help get the ball rolling. Maybe on the next one (or possibly on one of my other heads I've done).
  2. Ah, OK I'll look at that, thanks
  3. Has anyone made their own ferrules? I've been given some lovely acrylic pen making blanks and I thought it would be pretty cool to make some ferrules out of. This is one of the pen components: I've got the kit at work to do it but wondered if anyone else has done some in the past. If so, any tips on how to do them/sizes etc? I'm hoping I get selected for the Nippon shaft test as that would be a perfect time to do it ( mods)
  4. I have a Fenix 6 Pro that I use for distances & scoring which is connected to the Garmin Connect app. A colleague at work has an S42 which, when he opens the Garmin golf app, shows as the connected watch and gives him a shot map for each hole once he has completed the round. Is this a feature that is only on the golf-specific Garmin watches or is there a way to link my 6 to get the same info?
  5. Just noticed I have a 'rank' on my profile What is that for and how does it change? Guessing it's to do with post count etc..
  6. I have been a serial club changer since I started playing again last year, trying to find the best club for me. Some worked some didn't but as my game has improved I've been able to figure out what I actually want each club to do. Most of my purchases have been off eBay as there isn't much available to try in LH local to me - my thinking was that if I buy used I could sell on for the same if it didn't work out. I found a good 15-20 yards (possibly close to 30-40 on a perfect hit) going from a Cobra F6 to a new RadSpeed. Not necessarily due to the head performing better but the RS 'looks' better to my eye and that gives me more confidence over the ball so I feel like I swing it better. Had a driver lesson with our pro and tweaked the settings which also improved launch & spin numbers.
  7. And now a 54° SM8 to replace the last Cleveland in the bag. The 50 & 58 were so much better than the CG15 I had to get one and, all being well, it should be good for gapping as I'll have 4° increments between PW-LW
  8. Thanks everyone, great info. I'll get my water intake up and get supplies sorted. Started running again so that should help with stamina as it's a quite hilly course and we're walking - no buggies. Should be a fun challenge
  9. I'm playing in our Coronation Cup at the start of June which is 36 holes in one day . Betterball in the morning, foursomes in the afternoon. Both shotgun starts with about an hour in between starts. Playing with a good friend, great golfer off 6 so, hopefully he'll keep me on my toes... Any tips on how to survive the day?
  10. Thanks, I'll give it a whirl. Higher trajectory & spin are the main differences from what I can tell - Both things I am looking for.
  11. I've just been informed that the SM8 I've ordered has a PX LZ 6.0 shaft, instead of the 'wedge flex' they normally come with. Is there much difference between the 2? I think the wedge flex is an S200 @ 128g compared to 120g for the LZ.. Thanks Steve
  12. Oh, it's like therapy coming here! "Hi, I'm Steve and I have a problem..." Finally found the missing 54° SM8 F-Grind in LH to go with the 50 & 58°. Another bargain, thanks SM9 That's it now, bag is done for the season... ...said no one ever.
  13. Managed to sneak 18 holes after work yesterday and played pretty well again. 5 over for the front 9, then a couple of dodgy holes but rallied for the last 5 at 3 over. Ended with an 84 and was generally good off the tee. A few good 3 woods and a couple of monster drives - 340y into a ditch on 14, 320y on 16 and 290y into the wind on 17. Finished with a 270y uphill 3 wood on 18.. Highlight was hitting the pin on the short downhill 15th which is quickly becoming one of my best holes. Last 3 rounds I've been 8" from a slam dunk , 8' , 3' ...
  14. Thank you. I went with the sole engraving that way around as, when you look at a putter, you tend to hold it by the shaft and look at the face then the sole and the engraving is the right way around for that
  15. And.....the old putter is out, new model in and worked well on the 1st proper outing this weekend gone. Need a KBS OneStep shaft & SRSR Contour pro grip but will get those when available.
  16. And I've named the putter. As a lot of putters seem to be named after places (Newport, Toulon, Daytona etc) I've gone with my home town. Made a new name plate. The black line is a graphic of the hills where I live:
  17. 1st game with the new putter this weekend just gone. It worked really well, speed control was great, alignment was spot on - my green reading still needs to improve but hit the ball where I was aiming. Lots of positive comments on the looks & weight too from other players
  18. 1st strokeplay comp of the season on Saturday. Played pretty steady, got up and down really well so pleased with the new SM8 wedges. Also used my new putter for the 1st time on the course and it worked really well. Great feel and really good speed control on the greens that are starting to roll true and gaining some extra zip to them - 31 putts. Driver & 3W worked pretty well, some really good drives. Really enjoying the -Pro V1x for a bit of extra distance and seems a little tighter too. Ended up with a nett 71 (1 under) but had a tough break on 18 where the ball hit a stone and ended up OB so finished with a 7 Had a 0.4 cut so going in the right direction..
  19. I've just changed from Cleveland CG15 to Vokey SM8. Really impressed with them and the sole grinds are much better for me. Now the SM9 are out there's some good deals on the SM8
  20. For those of you who use different weighted putters (or change weights in your putters), how do you find it works best? Heavier for faster greens and lighter on slower ones or vice-versa? With my new putter I can change the weight from 350 to 370g by replacing the weights so just trying to figure out which way around I should be using them. I know a bit of trial and error is needed but just trying to gauge some thoughts on it. Thanks Steve
  21. Managed to sneak out for 5 holes after the rain last night. Needed to give the new putter a go before a comp on Saturday. Par, bogey, par, birdie, par 100% fairways hit, 4/5 GIR & rolled a nice 15 footy for birdie. I've also been trying a new practice method I like to call 'odds & evens'. As evenings are a bit tight for time to get round I carry so, to make things lighter and help practice using different clubs for different shots, I alternate from odd numbers and even numbers. Last night was odds - 3w, 3h, 5, 7, 9 & 2 wedges. It seems to be helping as I'm not relying on a certain club for a set distance. Learning to take a bit off or use less of a full swing..
  22. My home course is pretty hilly so pushing a trolley up & down hill can take it's toll over 18 holes. I've noticed that I generally play better and feel less fatigued than I did when using an old push cart. It was also given to me for free, just needed a new battery, so win-win for me
